One of the biggest “deals” we learned about Russia is their woeful lack of good supplies of precision stand-off weapons combined with reconnaissance and targeting, which leads to the  revelation of how weak their Long Range Aviation really is.  Remember (it’s on this thread), experts who had good insight into Ukrainian capabilities agreed that AFU air defense was a real weak spot. This invasion should have begun with a rain of stand-off attacks from Long Range Aviation and the Black Sea Fleet aimed at knocking out Ukrainian air defenses, C3 installments, and AFU aviation.  Then the Fullbacks a and Frogfoots can come in and perform CAS missions and use gravity bombs against newly U.S. defended targets while the Flankers and MiGs wipe up whatever is left flying in the AFU fleet.

That didn’t happen. Cope channels are trying to say it’s because Russia “held back” and point to new strikes against dams and power plants by Long Range Aviation.  The truth is that Russia doesn’t have the ability to use strategic aviation and stand-off weapons to seriously degrade the AFU’s fighting abilities and air defenses, or they’d have done it. It’s easy to find and hit a giant dam or power station that has been in one place for 50 years and is on all your maps.  That’s really all they can do.  This entire war is proof of concept of our monomaniacal focus on air superiority as a fundamental requirement.  Russia wins the conventional war and we are in a guerilla campaign if their aviation had been able to cash the propaganda checks they’ve been writing.

During the occupation of Kharkiv Oblast, the Russians tortured Sri Lankan citizens studying in Ukraine

"According to the investigation, Sri Lankan citizens were studying at the medical college in Kupyansk before the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine," the report says.

Foreigners lived together with relatives. After the full-scale Russian invasion in March, seven Sri Lankans walked to Kharkiv, where they were detained by the Russians and taken to an aggregate plant in Vovchansk. There they were placed in cells where they were held for four months.

"All this time, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation abused people: they pulled out their nails, subjected them to physical and psychological violence," the Prosecutor General's Office notes.

Needs more love.

In totally unrelated news...Hungary today:  "Wait what?  No adidas track suits.  We'd like to change sides."  \

very excited to see the new(ly delivered) PzH2000 in action against Russia.  If they can figure out how to not overstress the loading mechanisms.  Just four of these is worth 20 T-90's.

We let the shitbag Saudi's have our kickass American tanks.  Why not Ukraine?

One guess: whoever makes our tanks wants to make sure they perform well. If they do, great marketing and the tanks will be easier to sell abroad. If they don't, sales go down.

You can't drink 14 pints and pummel some Russian tourists if you don't allow any Russian tourists to visit.

Plus it helps the brain drain of Russia.

Prepping the olds and patriots still watching these shows for the inevitable withdrawal?  And it should be noted that if Putin goes down, all of these hosts will be out jobs as well.

Oh now she needs to tell the truth? Bitch, please. Hoping all of these propagandists get called out for their BS and get front row seats for whatever carbomb takes out Putin.

And if you need an uplifting message watch this cheerful interview of a Russian murderer who was pardoned so he can fight as part of Wagner. The lighting and depressing tone makes it look like an Ilya Repin oil painting from the 19th century. Except it moves and has subtitles. If you didn't know any better he could of been a prisoner from the first Crimean war.

It's 20 minutes, so it's a commitment. But you weren't kidding. Helluva story that guy has. I'm sure there were a few fibs sprinkled in there to try to cover his ass, but he had his story down with enough specific details that it sounded credible.

You are missing the point. They are in CYA mode and trying to survive the fall of Russia. They are known Putin apologists so they will likely share his fate, but if they can convince people that they were doing the job under duress and that they are legitimate…they might survive.

There’s definitely some of this going on. It’s the peril of living in an autocratic state - you have to suck up to whoever is gonna be in power, and it’s sometimes hard to predict.

Lt. General Ben Hodges, who has been spot-on almost from the beginning, has a news series through the Renew Democracy Initiative.  None of this is new to us, but if you know of friend or relatives who are hazy about the war, or maybe even biting on some of the Russian propaganda, this is a pretty good well-explained overall picture of things.

Those two videos I posted, you could skip the first one, as it’s just an intro to the series and doesn’t have a lot of meat to it.  General Petraeus has a short video in that channel as well   Again, these would be lightweight videos to those in those thread, but good for those who aren’t following things closely.

Those Ukrainians who cheered the Russian invasion in 2014 and 2022, how’s that working out for them, are they joining the Leopards Eating Peoples’s  Faces party?

They’ve been talking about referendums since March. What are the odds they can actually pull one off?

This feel different today imo, especially paired with the new mobilization/marital law.

I skimmed an English version of the new laws, my take was more in line with being able to keep the troops already in Ukraine there indefinitely via limiting the ability for refusals and forcing extensions on the guys with expiring short term contracts. Additionally, if they annex the occupied territories I guess technically they can send in conscripts.

It's going to be interesting how this pays out domestically for Putin. The first part I don't think will be an issue but sending conscripts regardless if it's legal or not seems like a touchy subject.
