❗️I think this might be the top-news for today. While Putin was speaking about "Russian greatness" in Moscow, Russian troops were fleeing in Bakhmut.Prigozhin said the 72nd brigade and Gazprom "Torch" PMC abandoned their positions after 500 Wagner members died to get them -…
Russia only displayed only one tank today on their Victory day parade. But do not worry, if you love looking at Russian tanks just like me, @oryxspioenkop has a nice album with almost 2000 Russian tanks. https://t.co/r2NCUYOmg8

The parade in Moscow didn't have any modern tanks, infantry fighting vehicles or aviation. It was one of the smallest in Russian history, taking less than 10 minutes. There was one T-34 tank that took part in WWII. No Iskanders, Armata tanks, aviation. The walking part of the…

The ambassador of the Russian Federation in Poland failed to lay a wreath at the memorial in Warsaw. The crowd blocked his way and forced him to leave the place. On the background, you can hear air raid sirens which activists turned on in front of the Russian Embassy.

Can someone post a Tweet that tells us how many tanks were in the parade in Moscow? Thanks.

Many were sceptical about the plywood sanctions that were introduced. Today on Victory Day we see how a lack of plywood has made even a Potemkin display of Ruschist military power impossible. https://t.co/e5PhvwxX0E

My final thought on the Russia's single-tank-parade: It was not impossible (or even hard) for Russia to find 10-20 tanks and IFVs for the parade. The Russian army is decimated, but they have tanks for The Most Important Show. They probably decided for the one tank option... /1
...and to provide the Russians with a feeling, that the President is aware of losses, and sends every tank available to the front (hi, Prigozhin!) This means, that the Kremlin needs to explain itself to the Russians. This is a sign of some interesting development in Russia.

I think it’s mostly this, and a smaller dash of genuine paranoia that UA or UA-sympathizers might have been able to fuck shit up.

On the same day, Ivan Fedorov, exiled mayor of Zaporizhzhia Oblast's city of Melitopol, said that Russian proxies were seizing the homes of residents who had fled the occupation. He added that 674 houses in the villages near Melitopol had been recently seized.
Prigozhin has called me an arsehole. What ever am I to do with him?
The only tank in today's victory parade was a T-34. When it heard it was to be sent to Ukraine it tried to play dead.
Victory Day would feel more realistic if the tanks paraded backwards past Kremlin. Like in so many places in Ukraine this past year.

Russians in Crimea and the Baltics often moved into the houses of recently deported indigenous owners.Russians across ex-colonies have enjoyed all the privileges of a colonizer nation for centuries
The fact that some people (and especially journalists!) believe these nasty Eastern Europeans oppress Russians based on their ethnicity only shows the ignorance and ego-centered approach of people from countries with imperial past.4/10
This projection of their own biases results in absolutely distorted headlines like in this recent tweet:6/10 https://t.co/WKbw3Hd0Nr
The Baltics are doing a great job of defending themselves from a neighboring empire, and their decolonization is simple and humane: learn the basics of our language and history, respect our independence, and live happily ever after.8/10

(1/5)On 28 April 2023, the head of the self-declared Donetsk People's Republic, announced that regional water supplies were dangerously low. Water scarcity has been a growing issue for Russian-occupied Donetsk since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
(5/5)To compensate for its lack of success in capturing and retaining the canal Russia is likely constructing a water pipeline to mitigate the water shortage in Donetsk City. However, this is highly unlikely to fully compensate for the occupied regions’ reduced access to water.

I’m starting to think that the whole “resistance to providing XXXX weapon system” is part of a big act. The decision to provide the weapon system is decided ahead of time behind closed doors. Then someone (Ukraine usually, but maybe Poland or some other European nation) “proposes” that the weapons could be sent. Then another nation (France / US / Germany) plays the bad cop and “resists”. This buys time to work out the logistics and training while also gauging Putin’s reaction. As long as nothing crazy happens it’s all systems go.

We’ve seen this with Javelins, MLRS, tanks, Patriots, and now jets.

An important article by @TimothyDSnyder about the nuclear threats Putin is making and why we need to stand up to them. Particularly liked this paragraph. Giving in to nuclear blackmail would lead to catastrophe. https://t.co/65l3vssD4L

1/ Russia's defence industry has deep weaknesses that mean it's unlikely to be able to meet government targets for boosting production, according to independent journalists who have interviewed employees working for weapons manufacturers. ⬇️

Pretty good thread on why Russia can't increase arms production. TLDR: their arms factories are severely undermanned for several reasons, and sanctions prevents them from getting certain key components they can't make themselves like chips.

Important video - the attack on the Kremlin was from Russian Resistance within Russia with the intent to get the parade cancelled. This guy knew about it and they originally wanted to attack on May 9th but he talked them out of it.
