10/ According to Dmitry, although plentiful supplies were promised and appeared to be available, nothing reached the soldiers. "Yes, [supplies] were brought in, at least the warehouses were full, I saw it myself. But why it didn't reach the soldiers is another question."
12/ In June 2023, soldiers from the regiment recorded a video describing the terrible conditions they were experiencing, with little or no ammunition, food or water. The men were also not being rested or rotated.https://t.co/9FXVWNzOfk

14/ A delegation from St Petersburg supposedly visited the war zone earlier this year. However, according to Larisa Lukina, the head of a relatives' group, photographs from the deputies’ trip were actually taken in the Belgorod region of Russia, not in Ukraine.
16/ The 1486th Regiment was used as a reserve for the 1307th Motor Rifle Regiment, which endured equally terrible conditions and huge casualties. The video below from early June illustrates what the soldiers of the 1307th were experiencing then.https://t.co/LsSYBCzsrq

18/ "The paratroopers shit themselves very badly, but formally they are still working there, although in fact our regiment is there.
20/ "Nobody takes the 200s [dead] out from there, because there is simply nowhere to put them. Usually they were taken to Rostov, but now everything is overcrowded there.

2/ The regiment (formally the 1486th Motor Rifle Regiment) is one of several that have mostly been recruited from St Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad Oblast. It comprises men mobilised from September 2022 onwards, plus volunteers.
4/ The men's problems began almost immediately. Dmitry says that "at the very beginning, in September, we were given one set of uniforms, a 20-kilogram "Modul" bulletproof vest and an automatic rifle.

I'm pretty sure I saw that blouse on a mannequin in TJ Maxx.

I'm having a hard time believing that many dead Russians in such a small area, but we do know the leadership is shit, and the logistics and transportation are shit.

24/ According to the soldier, when the Storm units arrived they were put in positions in front of Wagner troops (nicknamed 'the musicians'), who acted as a Stalin-style 'barrier unit' to shoot retreating Storm members, as well as providing a second line of defence.
27/ "This is done so that the enemy reveals the positions of his artillery, which we can then attempt to hit with our long-range guns or drones. During such “noisemakers,” losses always occur, and therefore such orders are reluctantly carried out.

The whole thread continues on for another dozen tweets or more.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/09/05/yevgeny-prigozhin-assassination-vladimir-putin-wagner-deal-revenge/

The gist of this article is that Prigo was murdered NOT because of his March for justice on Moscow - but because part of the deal to let him live was that he had to let go of his African security empire, and that he ultimately refused to do so. The author of the article claims that it was this second bit of treachery that Putin could not let stand.

Romania has signed a deal to take over Moldova’s and Transnistria’s national gas pipeline network from Russia’s Gazprom. Romania is playing an increasingly important role in Moldova. Some think the 2 states will form a unified state in the future🇷🇴🇲🇩 Via @AndreiS49747209

Just Romania, Moldova is really just a Soviet creation/relic.  Transnistria is sort of the last bastion of that.  (This is obviously painting with a broad brush, but more or less its pretty accurate).

Britain will list Wagner as a terrorist group.Countries that have not yet done so, such as Canada, should do so urgently.More countries should designate Russia to be a terrorist state and follow the example of Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and others.
Mercedes-Benz handed over 100 Zetros vehicles to UkraineIn addition, the company provided driver training. Funds for the purchase of SUVs were allocated by the German government.

Yep they just need to move the border to the river. Once Ukraine wins they and Romania just need to roll into Transnistria and end that insurgency.

This is the part the Russians will seemingly never understand, I don't think most western tax payers are pissed about losing a tank.  We are grateful that the crew survived, and that the tank performed to protect them.  This is the ultimate case in point as to what shitbags they are as a people.  They give a fuck that every time one of their tanks is lost the crew melts alive inside it, or sets a new human flight record devoid of wings.  So the UK may not have many more Challengers to give, I'm glad they gave what they could.  30 Abrams is a good start, lets multiply that by ten in the next year.  The value of having the Ukrainians as a long term western allied country is worth 1,000 tanks or more if that is what it takes.

The 47th mechanized showed how their soldiers destroyed a Russian T-90 tank with the use of an FPV drone.

The Ukrainian Air Force says it intercepted 23 of 33 missiles/drones Russian launched over night, including 15 of 25 Shahed / Geran drones, 7 of 7 Kh-101/555/55 cruise missiles, and an Iskander-M missile (presumably 9M723), which is rare. https://t.co/uDZojXiqay

Attempting to strike a balance?

General #Surovikin suddenly "disappeared" from the website of the #Russian Ministry of DefenseAnother confirmation that after #Prigozhin’s rebellion, Surovikin’s military career is over: the general has only shoulder straps left, and even those will soon be torn off.

A photo of Surovikin and his wife has emerged. A thread on the choppy information about him, which is more telling, and some implications for the state of Russian military leadership and the war effort. /1

Well this could make things interesting.

BREAKING:Romania’s Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr confirms that the authorities today found fragments of a suspected Russian drone around 100 meters away from the border with Ukraine. Is it time for NATO to use Article 4?

I wonder what the threshold for a NATO military response is? It's definitely not a wayward missile hitting some trees. I doubt it's even a wayward missile hitting a building with civilians.

I think a wayward missile hitting a building with civilians gets NATO into the missile defense business, perhaps putting in a no-fly zone for Russian missiles over Western Ukraine.

More sharks hating Russians.

CNN —

Three men on board an inflatable catamaran were pulled from the sea in the early hours of Wednesday after “several shark attacks” left their vessel partially sunken off the Australian northeastern coast.

Two Russians and one French national, ages 28 to 63, were on board the boat as it traveled from Vanuatu to the northeastern city of Cairns, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said in a statement.

The 9-meter (30-foot) Russian-registered vessel appeared to run into trouble when sharks attacked its inflatable hulls.

I think the most we would see is a no fly zone and NATO SAMS closer to Western Ukraine to protect border regions. So a 30 mile shoot em down zone. But something bigger than this would have to happen.

#72685

I'm joking.  Try to keep up.  Also:

"You see that?  It says 'North Atlantic Treaty Organization.'  I see a wayward missile I'm killin' the man shootin' it."

It's pretty discouraging thinking about the fact we could end this war in like 72 hours if we brought the thunder. But alas...

Pretty cool map that provides context for the battles around Robotyne:

This simple model exaggerates the elevation model's verticality by a factor of 3 in order to show otherwise imperceptible elevation differences.Terrain here is very flat steppe. Elevation differences are so subtle that a vanilla 3D model does not effectively show differences.

Here's the same data but with the verticality not exaggerated. This is what the true elevation looks like. Note that it practically looks like a flat 2D map. But it's not. There is elevation data baked into this model. (It's just mostly imperceptible at this scale.)

The Russian positions here seem fairly sensibly constructed. They take into account topography and the lay of the land. There was a clear effort to give Russian forces high ground from their fighting positions with overwatch over vehicle traps in the lowlands.

This means that it may take Ukrainians time to fight uphill as they continue penetrating these lines - and that's okay. The Ukrainians previously fought uphill to liberate Robotyne. They are doing it again with their continued penetration.

I assume that the mines are pressure activated but they have been converted to altitude activated.

I think the empty water canister is meant to turn the mine in mid drop so it drops detonator first onto the target.
