Respek to that dude for at least thinking like ole Brisket here.  While they aren't perfect, a good full choked 870 throwing 4 to 6 shot will get the job done.  Those small drones are getting close, as in "in range."  They are relatively fragile, a pellet or two will disable them.  I'm curious if the shotgun defense approach has been used already, and what its success/failure rate looks like.

My old man suggested this the other day. The only issue I'd have is range so you'd have to get them when they are close like you suggested.

we may need a Georgia thread before too long:

It’s getting to the point when you are essentially an outcast if you don’t support the resistance. Any further violence will only flush the GD down a very bad spiral. #Georgia #NoToRussianLaw #TbilisiProtests
I posted before that at Easter, Tbilisi leaves en masse for ancestral towns. Gov’t added day-offs to Easter holidays, May 3-12 overall, to avoid protests. New murals: “this year we all meet the Easter in Tbilisi.” If many people actually stay, that’s gonna be a savage statement.

GD = pro-russian ruling party that everyone is mad at.

these drones are carrying claymores or some variation of a 60-81mm morter shell.

Both of which have a 10% or higher kill range of between 35-50m  (38-55 yards), and that number goes up the closer it gets.

40-50 yards is the farthest "normal" range for a 12 guage.

I mean I guess blasting it out of the sky at 20 yards giving you a 35% change of dying is better than the 95% chance if the fucker detonates on you.. but yeesh. that math sucks either way.

Russia breached global chemical weapons ban in Ukraine war, US says
Story by Jonathan Landay and Daphne Psaledakis • 51m • 3 min read

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The United States on Wednesday accused Russia of violating the international chemical weapons ban by deploying the choking agent chloropicrin against Ukrainian troops and using riot control agents "as a method of warfare" in Ukraine.

"The use of such chemicals is not an isolated incident and is probably driven by Russian forces' desire to dislodge Ukrainian forces from fortified positions and achieve tactical gains on the battlefield," the State Department said in a statement.

The Russian embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Chloropicrin is listed as a banned choking agent by the Hague-based Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which was created to implement and monitor compliance with the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
German forces fired the gas against Allied troops during World War I in one of the first uses of a chemical weapon.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported the Ukrainian military as saying Russia has stepped up its illegal of use riot control agents as it presses its biggest advances in eastern Ukraine in more than two years.

In addition to chloropicrin, Russian forces have used grenades loaded with CS and CN gases, the Ukrainian military says. It says at least 500 Ukrainian soldiers have been treated for exposure to toxic substances and one was killed by suffocating on tear gas.

While civilians usually can escape riot control gases during protests, soldiers stuck in trenches without gas masks must either flee under enemy fire or risk suffocating.

The State Department said it was delivering to Congress its determination that Russia's use of chloropicrin against Ukrainian troops violated the CWC.

Moscow's use of the gas "comes from the same playbook as its operations to poison" the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny in 2020 and Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in 2018 with the Novichok nerve agent, the statement said.

Russia denied involvement in both cases.

The department also determined that Russia has breached the CWC's prohibition on the use of riot control agents as a method of warfare, the statement said.

It said it was sanctioning three Russian state entities linked to Moscow's chemical and biological weapons programs, including a specialized military unit that facilitated the use of chloropicrin against Ukrainian troops.

Four Russian companies that support the three entities were also sanctioned, it said.

The sanctions freeze any U.S. assets belonging to the targeted entities and generally prohibit Americans from doing business with them.

Separately, the U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on three entities and two individuals involved in purchasing items for Russian military institutes involved in the country's chemical and biological weapons programs.

The sanctions were among new measures announced by the United States on Wednesday targeting Russia over its 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The CWC bans the production and use of chemical weapons. It also requires the 193 countries that have ratified the convention, which include Russia and the U.S., to destroy any stocks of banned chemicals.

The State Department was expected to convey its determination that Russia has violated the CWC to the OPCW.

Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of breaching the treaty in OPCW meetings. But the organization says it has not been formally asked to open an investigation into the use of prohibited substances in Ukraine.

Reuters has not been able to independently verify the use of banned chemical substances by either side.

This is not the rosiest of assessments from Kofman in the aftermath of Avdiivka and Bakhmut with ongoing assault on Chashiv Yar. Russians continue to make incremental gains as Ukraine struggles with manpower strength and training and an ammo shortage.

But Chashiv Yar: Russia throws soldiers into battle unarmed, forcing them to acquire weapons in battle. If so, fuck'em.

Posting this because I'm a hopeful homer.

Ukraine's new ATACMS could make Crimea 'militarily worthless,' war expert says

Long-range ATACMS provided by the US to Ukraine have the potential to make Crimea "militarily worthless" to Russia, according to one military analyst.

Last week, The New York Times reported that the US had secretly shipped about 100 Army Tactical Missile Systems, known as ATACMS, to Ukraine, which has reportedly already put them to use.

The US has previously sent ATACMS with a shorter range, which aided Ukraine's fight last fall. But the versions sent recently can travel about 190 miles — which puts higher-value targets in Ukraine's crosshairs.

This includes Crimea, occupied by Russia in 2014 and crucial to its military strategy in Ukraine.

Philip Karber, a military analyst with expertise on Ukraine, told Radio Free Europe that "the delivery of ATACMS is a big breakthrough."

He said the weapons "could basically make Crimea militarily worthless."

Crimea has been heavily fortified since President Vladimir Putin's forces occupied it, and it serves his military by both land and sea. It's home to the advanced port of Sevastopol, the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

It also serves as a crucial logistics hub and military supply route to occupied southern Ukraine, and has been the launchpad for a series of devastating Russian missile and drone attacks.

Ukraine has landed many blows on Crimea before — vastly weakening Russia's Black Sea Fleet, the port of Sevastopol, and periodically targeting the strategic Kerch Bridge that connects the peninsula to Russia.

These have been variously conducted by weapons including air and naval drones, and likely the UK- and France-supplied Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles.

But ATACMS have a key advantage over Storm Shadows, Radio Free Europe reported, in that they travel much faster.

In mid-April, Ukraine claimed to have struck the Dzhankoi military base, in northern Crimea, including a prized S-400 air defense launcher, without elaborating on the weapon used. A senior US official later told the Times that it was among Ukraine's ATACMS targets.

Last month, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged Congress to agree on an aid package for Ukraine, he pointed to ATACMS as a key weapon for targeting Crimean airfields.

"When Russia knows we can destroy these jets, they will not attack from Crimea," Zelenskyy told The Washington Post.

"It's like with the sea fleet," he added. "We pushed them from our territorial waters. Now we will push them from the airports in Crimea."
