Russia to hand over river to China for access to the Sea of Japan

Russia, China and North Korea will soon begin negotiations to allow Chinese ships to pass through the border river Tumen into the Sea of Japan, The Moscow Times quoted Nikkei Asia as saying.

The Tumen River flows along the border of China, North Korea and Russia and empties into the Sea of Japan. Chinese ships can now move freely along the river only up to the village of Fanchuan and have no opportunity to go to the sea, as for the passage of the remaining 15-kilometer section they need permission from Russia and North Korea.

Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, after their meeting in May, included a paragraph in their joint statement about Russian and Chinese participation in "constructive dialog" with North Korea over the Tumen River.

Previously, Russia did not support this Chinese initiative, fearing that Beijing would thus increase its influence in Northeast Asia. However, against the backdrop of sanctions imposed against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, Moscow is becoming increasingly dependent on the Chinese side, The Moscow Times noted.

I presume those broken panels make the sun light up on American sonar like a Christmas tree?

Russia may sell out a river access to China

"BEIJING -- China, Russia and North Korea are expected to start discussions soon about allowing ships to navigate a border river into the Sea of Japan, which could have major security implications for Tokyo.

The waterway, the Tumen River, flows east along the border of China and North Korea, and eventually also of Russia, before emptying into the Sea of Japan.

Chinese vessels can currently only freely navigate the river until the village of Fangchuan, on the eastern end of landlocked Jilin province. Permission is required from both Russia and North Korea to navigate the remaining 15-kilometer stretch to the Sea of Japan. A Soviet-era, 7-meter-tall bridge also blocks the passage of larger vessels.
(...)
China historically held the area until the Russian Empire took control in the 1860s. China has repeatedly urged Russia and North Korea to allow Chinese vessels to navigate the river to the Sea of Japan, proposing the creation of a special economic zone along its banks.

Russia used to be reluctant on the idea, concerned that it would increase China's influence in Northeast Asia. But its attitude is changing as the power dynamic between Moscow, Beijing and Pyongyang shifts.

Polish farmers have resolutely confronted illegal migrants in an unusual way

They decided to fill the border strip between #Poland and #Belarus with pig manure.

Polish farmers learned the idea from the Greeks, who a few years ago tried to stop refugees from the Middle East in this way.

Polish farmers also assume that most of the foreigners on the Polish-Belarusian border are Muslims who don't eat pork.

"We count on the fact that if we spread pig manure, illegal migrants will not pass through this strip because their faith will not allow them to do so," the farmers say.

Tumen River - Britannica

Tumen River forming the northeastern frontier of North Korea with China and Russia. The Tumen originates on Mount Paektu (9,022 feet), the highest peak of the Changbai Mountains along the China-Korea border. Flowing swiftly through mountainous, heavily forested districts, it is the third longest river in Korea, with a length of 324 miles; but its drainage basin is only 4,059 square miles, and the plain area is formed only downstream, in the southeast. It is navigable for only 53 miles. The districts through which it flows contain mining industries.

The Tumen has been crossed for years by North Korean refugees defecting across the Chinese border. The river is considered the preferred way to cross into China as it is shallow and narrow. In some areas it can be crossed on foot, or by short swims. It also freezes in winter allowing dry crossings.

In looking at Google Earth, the largest boat on the river is ~ 75 feet long, and nothing to speak of in terms of an ocean going dock/port. More like a Texas River than the Mississippi.  This looks like a precursor to the Houston Ship Channel before it was dredged into Galveston Bay and to the Gulf.

Given the remoteness, this does not look like a significant economic venture in terms of trade.

However, giving China access to the Sea of Japan, and theoretically, territorial rights by proxy into the Sea of Japan (Chinese fishing boats) would be problematic.

Vladivostok is less than 100 miles from this the River, and ~ 30 miles from China at the closet point. Me thinks letting China into the hen house will result in China bordering the Sea of Japan.

TM-76, Mace, Surface-to-Surface Cruise Missile, circa 1959-60.

The Mace was a streamlined, more advanced version of the Matador winged cruise missile. Originally designated TM-76, the Mace was designed and built by the Martin Company (later Martin Marietta). Development of the missile began in 1954. The missile was powered by a turbojet engine which could produce 5,500 pounds of thrust. At launch, boost was provided by a solid-fueled motor attached under the vehicle’s tail. The solid rocket booster could produce a thrust of 100,000 pounds. Mace improvements over the Matador included a lengthened fuselage which doubled the vehicle’s fuel capacity. This resulted in increased range and warhead capability. Mace production began in 1958, and there were ultimately two versions of the missile. The Mace A, designated TM-76A, carried a Goodyear ATRAN terrain comparison guidance system.

Russia, China and North Korea will soon begin negotiations to allow Chinese ships to pass through the border river Tumen into the Sea of Japan, The Moscow Times quoted Nikkei Asia as saying.

The only thing I can say about the battle for Vovchansk — that’s only the beginning.

I think we have here a new «record» — 13 guided bombs (KAB) for one hour.

It’s hard for them right now to stop our advance and they are deploying new forces. About that and more below🧵

Frankly speaking, the only reason I a writing this it’s Russian guided bombs.
Pain in the ass.

Yesterday from 21:00 to 22:00 they dropped 13 bombs. And from 22 to 23 6 more bombs.

If U are asking yourself whether it’s a lot or not — it’s huge.
This thread will be short and kinda more technical then the previous ones.

1) Russians are using only infantry without armed vehicles. Only a couple of tanks and AFV were destroyed here.

My company destroyed 2/5 BMP. Yes, I am showing off.

These were destroyed by 82 brigade.

Another one damaged and abandoned BMP-2. Folks from my company used 4 FPVs against it.

Their choice to use infantry without armour is strange but was «predicted» by me. And because of that they have big losses in infantry.

30 mech.regiment operates here and this new regiment👇

Has armed vehicles (not BMPs) which are perfect for fighting in the city (at least for evacuation). But they don’t do this.

2) RUAF uses UAV as much as they can. Every hour (even at night) they use 8-12 Orlans, SuperCam and Zak’s UAVs.
3) They started using more helicopters.

Since the beginning of the operation they almost haven’t done it but right the number is increasing.

Destroyed Russian UR-77.

4) They are preparing new forces for future advance. For example, 22 regiment of 72 division (newly created) is going to receive BMP-3, BMP-1AM and BMP-2 (in general ~ 60 AFV) and waiting to be deployed at the battlefield.
5) As I said a lot of times ago they are still trying to dig and build a new defence line at newly occupied territory.

Fortunately, they fail to do it.

6) As I said, for 5 weeks they have lost 5 BMPs and instead of mechanised columns charges I see how they use infantry.

A couple of days ago they used 17 paratroopers from the 83 brigade. With the help of 82 mortar 4 were KIA and 10 WIA.

7) I also was surprised to found out that they almost do not fire from the closed firing positions with their tanks because…their tankers don’t know how to do that.

It’s a very big contrast with Donetsk oblast.

Damaged and abandoned MTLB in Russia.

8) They are trying to use more fresh forces from different parts of the front:

- assault battalion from the 155 mar.brigade (South of D oblast);

- marine battalion from the 810 mar.brigade (Z oblast);

- BTGr (the 1st one since 2022) of 9 mech.brigade (South of D oblast)

What is also interesting. Firstly they deployed one assault battalion from the 83 brigade. It suffered losses and they deployed the rest of the brigade.

This BTGr from the 9 brigade consists of 3 mech.companies, 3 assault companies and 2 assault companies (prisoners).

And it’s only about Vovchansk area where 116 brigade of their National guard and newly created 128 mech.brigade are deployed. Near Lyptsi the situation even more interesting.

As I said, we destroyed two BMPs. With the help of mining. And I will show U how we did it👇

To be more effective we need your help, folks!

As usual our unit (I assure U that not only ours) needs some stuff:

- Bluetti AC200MAX 2048Wh;
- 4 antennas;
- 10 GPS trackers

In general: 2500$

Our PP: osint4ua@gmail.com

Russian troops are intensifying attacks in the border areas of Luhansk Oblast with the aim of capturing the village of Borova in neighboring Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine's 3rd Assault Brigade said on June 18.

In a post on Telegram, the brigade said Moscow's forces are using tanks, FPV (first-point-view) drones, and anti-aircraft missiles in an effort to advance, and also claimed they had deployed chemical weapons, without providing further details.

"The front line… in Kharkiv Oblast, bordering Luhansk Oblast, is today one of the most intense areas of the enemy's offensive," they wrote.

"The immediate task of the occupiers is to get to the (villages of) Cherneshchyna (and) Pershotravneve, with the subsequent seizure of Borova."

According to the crowd-sourced DeepState monitoring service, Russia has amassed 10,000 troops as part of a "shock fist" to capture the village.

Borova had been occupied by Russian forces in March 2022 but was liberated later that year during Ukraine's sweeping counteroffensive in Kharkiv Oblast.

Both the 3rd Assault Brigade and DeepState reported that Russian forces were currently taking heavy losses but were managing to replenish numbers.

"The enemy is throwing entire platoons and companies of personnel at the assaults of our positions," the 3rd Assault Brigade wrote.

"Their rapid liquidation is compensated by the replenishment of manpower in the amount of 250-400 soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation every week."

The brigade said it was managing to hold the front line "despite the overwhelming number of the enemy and the lack of reserves."

The Kyiv Independent could not verify the reports
