Putin is going to get his wish of Russia being united with Ukraine under one flag.

Russia: 2nd best army in Ukraine, 2nd best army in Russia.

And I imagine those Russian troops may not be too keen on fighting them since those troops may not be their best-equipped or trained - it's like when my grandpa handed a 11 year-old me a rifle and told me to go deal with a badger he saw near one of my grandma's gardens.

Well, you can also combine all that with the fact that leadership has apparently learned absolutely nothing by fighting in Ukraine.  "Hey guys, lets all stage up together, with all our gear, equipment, and shit, in a nice orderly line.  Make sure we do it on a highway, very visible to everyone as a show of force.  Make sure we get as close to each other as possible, and lets do this in broad daylight!"

Powerful explosions and work of air defence reported over Kurchatov in Kursk Operation Zone, the town where the Kursk NPP is located.

Guess what the Russians do the day after their convoy gets HIMARSed? Post new videos of another convoy heading to Kursk.

It seems like Ukraine has realized that Russia has some marginal competence in defending fortified positions or in attacking fixed locations, but absolutely sucks when you make things more active and maneuver based. Keep attacking where Russia isn't ready. Get behind supply lines and fortifications. Russia's clumsy response will inevitably give you juicy targets like columns of troops. The shortest path to freeing the rest of Ukraine goes through Russia.

If the Ukrainians can keep marginalizing Russian air power, the Russians at current seem to have absolutely no answer for this, none.  Honestly, without minefields, they are absolute shit, but hey, if you can force them to mine their own country, that's less mines in Ukraine.

This topo map makes it seem that, if UA digs in, they've got some elevated terrain and a river to defend from should they decide. I think that was mentioned by someone earlier which gives them fire control over the rail line running NW to SE

They wrecked that column.  I don’t think it killed 500 but it killed a shitload per all the bodies you can see in trucks.  And I notice there are more videos of Russians filming troop convoys and lots of Russians fleeing - they don’t seem interested in staying behind to defend their homes.

A morning video of a destroyed Russian military convoy in the Kursk region has appeared online. The footage shows burnt-out trucks with the bodies of dozens of Russian soldiers scattered among them.

It is estimated that each of these trucks can carry up to 35 fully equipped military personnel. The video shows 14 destroyed vehicles, suggesting that the Russian army could have lost up to 490 soldiers in a single night in the strike.

This could be one of the largest single losses for the Russian army since the start of a full-scale war.

We were able to confirm the authenticity of the video and establish its geolocation - it was filmed in the village of Oktyabrskoye, Kursk region.

Kadyrov promised "good results in Kursk within two or three days"The head of Chechnya did not specify from which side these results would come.

I don't see any red stripes on that flag. The powerline is in the way, but it looks more like this one.

Same as it ever was.  They ought to bust out an old panzer and send it with them for old times sake.

Modern German tanks and modern American rifles, killing Russians in the Kursk region.  Didn’t have that on my bingo card for 2024.

Ol Gerasimov was told about the Ukrainian troop buildup ahead of the attack but dismissed it. Then told Putin at the security council meeting that the advance had been stopped (that video has been posted). Gerasimov was not part of the most recent security council meeting. Hang in there, Gerry.

Russian intelligence knew about the preparations for operation in Kursk region but Russian General Staff ignored those reports and hid information from Putin. The Kremlin is now very unhappy with Gerasimov - Bloomberg, citing a source close to Kremlin.https://t.co/wCHkhWEQqX https://t.co/ozNsZ0J0Lm

Putin met with Russian security council. Russian media reported that "issues of combatting terrorism were discussed. FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov made a report." No Gerasimov this time. No mentioning Kursk region.I didn't bother with subtitles. https://t.co/woT2tQBiBq

Looks like Ukraine has gained controls of Sudzha or at least controls most of it. May have been NoelReports that talked about it having defensible high ground that would allow Ukraine to put the train tracks within artillery range.

Yes, now it is confirmed. Ukraine controls Sudzha. Like I expected, it seems like Russians have left.

The big result of this little foray--whether it is a "raid," a "reconnaissance-in-force," or a full-on invasion--is that it has conclusively demonstrated to American policymakers that Ukraine can use American weapons in Russia (even to the point of using American weapons to occupy Russian territory) and Russia will do fuck-all about it.

The American restrictions can be safely rescinded.

A significant question, and giant uncertainty, is how well AFU can maintain logistics support as this intrusion dives farther into Kursk.

True. But seeing as how they're not Russians, there's a good chance they thought about that, and made plans for it.
