Times Radio really hates Putin/Russia.

Here's a weekly roundup of highlights from the past week (I hate their editing crops into everybody's faces, and I know it's a radio show, but there's no reason to do that for YouTube )

Russian forces continue to report with a degree of panic about Ukrainian forces moving elite brigades into the Kursk district the 47th brigade, the 72nd brigade, the Magyar's Birds and the K-2 battalion elements have been spotted.
😳💥 Russian soldiers filmed the moment when HIMARS cluster missiles hit a bridge over the Seym River near Karyzh, Kursk Region.
The Crimean Bridge is gradually deteriorating due to damage from recent attacks, according to ATESH partisan group. Structural degradation is occurring, and there has been a reduction in enemy air defense on the peninsula, making the bridge more vulnerable to further strikes.

So if they are moving "elite" brigades into the Kursk region, wonder if they plan on quickly swinging down to Belgorod from the backside.  I don't see them moving on the city of Kursk - their supply lines would be stretched out. But moving down to Belgorod would screw with Russian logistics even more, and might would force the Russians further south (or at least those near Kharkiv) to come up north, and there would be relief for Kharkiv. And there's few defenses inside of Russia proper to deal with a move on Belgorod.

Putin can ignore a bunch of "terrorists" running around Kursk, but if they took a city like Belgorod, Putin can't ignore that.  There's already a lot of chatter about a lot of anger/angst inside of Russia over the Kursk stuff, but it's hard to tell just how much, given how clamped down Russian social media and news is.

Never write off German.  Daughter is well into her job of medical market research - she's been assigned mostly covering Switzerland, as she speaks German and French (her colleague who speaks only German is mostly covering Austria, which is fine with the daughter because, as he explains, "Austrian doctors are dicks").  Anyway, she is learning some new stuff, like this fucking metal term: entzündliche darmerkrankung.  Well, I mean, it SOUNDS metal.  But it just means "inflammatory bowel disease."  Still, I foresee a future German weapons platform, maybe a multiple rocket launcher, called "Entzündliche Darmerkrankung."

English still dominates, it is why more Germans learn it than us English. Not knocking on the kiddos. But no one wants to sit with the Mercedes rep when he describes a critical piece for an Actros truck. Word takes 84 seconds to spill out. In English it is nut.

Some languages are dying or becoming meh. Lots of them.

I felt bad for Americans who busted their ass to study Pashto or Dari to get a job as a high level translator. Great Jamie, now you can focus on a small part of the world and get excited about the release of goat futures in the Pamirs.

in 1922 USSR and Germany signed a big treaty opening the door for all of that.

The Treaty of Rapallo was an agreement signed on 16 April 1922 between the German Reich and Soviet Russia under which both renounced all territorial and financial claims against each other and opened friendly diplomatic relations.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Rapallo_(1922)

A major point was both nations agreed no payments to each other. So anti-Versailles. Interesting is Germany did not inflict that much damage on Russian Territory. Articles 4 and 5 are interesting.

Article 4
Both Governments have furthermore agreed that the establishment of the legal status of those nationals of the one Party, which live within the territory of the other Party, and the general regulation of mutual, commercial and economic relations, shall be effected on the principle of the most favoured nation. This principle shall, however, not apply to the privileges and facilities which the Russian Socialist Federal Soviet Republic may grant to a Soviet Republic or to any State which in the past formed part of the former Russian Empire.

Article 5
The two Governments shall co-operate in a spirit of mutual goodwill in meeting the economic needs of both countries. In the event of a fundamental settlement of the above question on an international basis, an exchange of opinions shall previously take place between the two Governments. The German Government, having lately been informed of the proposed agreements of private firms, declares its readiness to give all possible support to these arrangements and to facilitate their being carried into effect.

I've had a drunken Treaty of Roppolo a time or two.

Or you get yourself close enough to threaten Belgorod and maybe disrupt its supply lines.  Then you aren't bothered with having to administrate and defend a large Russian city.  Rather, you just put more stress on Russian logistics/politics.

Yep. Taking a Russian city would be great politically, and would possibly send that entire shit hole into a tail spin.

Tactically it's not the correct move at this point.

I still think the objective is to weaken Russian positions within Ukraine , swing down with a secondary offensive in the South.

Don't know if Ukraine has the resources for that though.

Talk about being pissed.

The Armenians thought for a long time about how to thank Russia for everything.

And they gave almost all their air defense to the hohols. And these are "S-300", "Buks", "Osas", "Tors". With missiles, of course.

We're not like that, are we?

The Kursk NPP is about 50 kilometers southwest of Kursk and would be a hell of a bargaining chip to trade for the ZNPP.

My linkedin is getting hit. Lots of "international relations" companies out of UK trying to hire. $300+/hour and such, which is not out of range but rare for an offshore and sure as hell for the skills required.

Best was a south african group offering 10K for US Policy papers and insight. Yeah, don't think so.

So these policy papers, could somewhat just steal some letterheads from the DOD, US Department of State, etc., plaster them on a bunch of Wikipedia/ChatGPT stuff, and collect the money?

To keep Ukraine’s elite 47th Mechanized Brigade fighting for 15 months straight, the U.S. sent more than 300 M-2 Bradley fighting vehicles. @forbes #ukraine https://t.co/TIqTQvQ7YW
It took 19 months for Ukraine's allies to send 58 Leopard 1A5 tanks. https://t.co/5zUpylGOiV

Nah, need to spread them out more. And include the justification.

Those fuckers from the Duchy of Grand Fenwick are going to FAFO if they do not stop interfering with the importation of US guinea pig felts. Assholes keep undercutting us. Ecuador is now their #1 trading partner. We must end this.

Sanctions don't work, so send in the 82nd with a marine spearhead. They won before, so we owe them an asskicking.

I feel like the drone operator was trying to get them to shoot eachother, which is hilarious.

Also why aren't these guys given any shotguns? Hell even a slightly sawed off 20g with some birdshot would probably take out one of those drones at enough distance to keep yourself alive.

Either Russia is truly hurting to the point that air defenses are piss-poor in the Moscow area, or Ukraine has something figured out, or both.

Either way, this will make Russia pull even more air defense resources out of Ukraine and back from the border.

At that kind of range, they are still going to have a bad time. Those little wires you see sticking out of the front of the drones in all the vids? I'm pretty sure that if they touch each other it goes boom. A simple way to make it explode on contact. If you shoot one down, they are probably going to touch when it crashes.

I know...  still just seems like they aren't trying. I'm not rooting for the Russians, but I'd like to see a vid of one of them actually getting the shot off on a drone.
