This is why you can’t trust short people.  Their insecurities get the better of them and eventually they try to take over whatever they can.  See Napoleon, Putin, Tom Cruise, Mussolini, Tito (both the Yugoslavian dictator and the Jackson brother), Josef Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Emperor Hirohito, Francisco Franco and Kim Jong-Il (and his dad).

Yeah, he's an Australian, and I think he actually works in the Australian defense industry - a bean counter who loves statistics (probably why he was running a gaming channel as well).

It's an accountant's/auditor's wet dream is what it is.

Educated guesses for how many vehicles the Russians are producing per quarter mapped against what they have in storage, what they have deployed, and what they are losing. Lots of references to satellite photos, and lots of references to visually confirmed losses.

He's mapping the various types of vehicles being lost by Russia, how they are being used, etc.

It's dry as hell to listen to, but can be listened to as an audio podcast.  Stuff like how you can build new BTR-82s or convert/upgrade BTR-80s to BTR-82s (you can't tell the difference between the two), and what the pool of BTR-80s that can be converted, what's seen on the battlefield, what's seen in repair yards, storage yards, etc.

And the Russians are horrible about storing vehicles out in the open in shitty weather for decades.

So soon after Putin loses Syria, the Russian colony of Transnistria now also on the brink, declaring a state of emergency due to the cut-off of Russian gas. https://kyivinsider.com/russias-colony-of-transnistria-declares-state-of-emergency/
Quote

After losing Syria, the last thing Putin’s already flailing image needs is the loss of yet another colony, but it seems that may be exactly what’s about to happen.

Since 1993, Russia’s colony of Transnistria, a tiny strip of land between Ukraine and Moldova, massive Russian military base with which Moscow can further destabilize Europe, has existed only due to Ukraine’s generosity.  With a population of around 450,000 people, the Transnistrian economy runs on russian gas, which sadly for Russia,  arrives through a pipeline that first runs through Ukraine. But three weeks from now, those days are over. Zelensky now holds this colony, its massive weapons surpluses and Putin’s PR image in the palm of his hand.

Yesterday, Vadim Krasnoselsky, leader of this internationally unrecognized Transnistrian region, signed a decree declaring a 30-day economic state of emergency due to anticipated disruptions in Russian gas supplies. This measure mandates all businesses to conserve gas and other energy resources, prohibits the export of energy resources, and imposes restrictions on certain financial and commercial activities, including the movement of products and financial resources.

The Transnistrian parliamentary body is expected to adopt Krasnoselsky’s decree, with discussions scheduled for December 11. This development arises as the contract for Russian gas transit through Ukraine is set to expire on January 1, 2025, with Kyiv expressing reluctance to renew it. Consequently, Gazprom may suspend gas deliveries to Transnistria, a region that has historically received Russian gas without payment.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Moldova ceased purchasing Russian gas, opting instead for European market alternatives. However, Gazprom has continued supplying gas to Transnistria, which houses the Kuchurgan power station—a key electricity source for Moldova.

Recent negotiations between Moldova’s former Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, and Russian officials have not yielded a consensus on gas delivery routes or the settlement of Moldovagaz’s outstanding debts. Parlicov emphasized the serious risk of a gas-related crisis in Transnistria, while Transnistrian authorities have attributed the situation to official Chișinău.

Analysts expect that by severing the connection between Moscow and the colony, we will see negotiations begin as to the region’s alliances and resolution regarding what are considered to be substantial warehoused Russian military surpluses.

The head of the Yelenovskaya colony, where a terrorist attack against captured Ukrainian soldiers took place, died after his car exploded in occupied Donetsk.
On July 29, 2022, the occupiers simulated a missile strike on the colony in Elenovka killing at least 53 Ukrainian POWs. Neither the UN nor the Red Cross were granted access to the colony. The colony itself is known as a torture colony.
And the 🤡 responsible for the deaths and torture of Ukrainian POWs is finally dead...

There are many victims, mostly women.

I know this is off topic. But does anyone have a good international news podcast they follow? Something around 30 minutes long that doesn't have US politics or news (unless it directly relates).

I usually listen to NPR when I work out in the morning, but even they only spend maybe 10 minutes or things like Ukraine and Mideast.

Yeah, just very dry with a lot of facts, which is to be expected of a financial analyst. He recently posted this, about a broader overview of things:

Quote

So the episode this week is going to be a little different. I recently got back from a major Defence Exhibition in Korea (KADEX), looking to see the way Korean and International defence producers are responding to the massive shifts caused by the war in Ukraine and some of the new systems they're working on.

I'm not a stranger to these kinds of events, but this is the first time I've been there in a role that allows me a chance to actually film, photograph, and collect interview material explicitly for the channel. So as well as the regular PPT, expect to see some short video clips mixed in.

He’s only posted one dedicated video concerning the Korea stuff, but it was interesting. He’s mentioned it in other videos.

Since 2022, global demand in the arms market has expanded rapidly as many countries rush to restock on systems and munitions as well as adopt new technologies that were increasingly proving their worth in Ukraine. In that environment, the Republic of Korea has become an increasingly prolific arms exporter, with the Korean defence industry working to sustain not just the ROK Armed Forces, but also inking major contracts with buyers from the Asia Pacific to Europe.

So following an invitation from the organisers of Korea's largest Defence Exhibition, the Korea Army International Defence Industry Exhibition (KADEX), I thought it was time for something a little different this week.

Join me for a bit of a Perun road-trip, as we look at range of Korean and international systems, the themes emerging from the event, and what it might indicate about the evolving defence market, and the RoK's role in it.

Thousands of booths, tens of thousands of attendees, and one Aussie trying to bring you an inside look at it all. Thanks again to the organisers, my translator, and those who accepted (sometimes very long) interviews over the course of the event.

On a road in the Zaporizhzhia region

On a road in the Zaporizhzhia region— the region where Russia continues to hold a nuclear power plant hostage — a Russian FPV drone attacked an @iaeaorg convoy tasked with ensuring nuclear safety worldwide. The strike targeted one of the convoy’s vehicles. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries.
This attack clearly demonstrated how Russia treats anything related to international law, global institutions, and safety. The Russians could not have been unaware of their target; they knew exactly what they were doing and acted deliberately.

This attack demands a clear and decisive response, both from the IAEA and from other international partners. Silence or inaction will only embolden further violations.

JUST NOW: WaPo's David Ignatius reports that Ukrainian intelligence sent 20 experienced drone operators and 150 FPV drones to Idlib to aid the Syrian rebels last month.

Sending drones/operators to Syria probably provides a solid ROI.  Either they help force/divert more Russian forces and equipment to Syria, thereby keeping them out of Ukraine, or they destroy forces/equipment that will never be able to be sent Ukraine.

And I have a feeling that Russian forces in Syria are slightly better trained/equipped/experienced than Ukrainian forces.
