Yeah it’s very encouraging that they’ve been rotating troops. Occasionally read about guys stuck in places like aavdivka and chasiv yar for years, so hopefully the rotations described by T&P is more typical.

Wow. There you go.

That list is some idiots jizz factory dream of what constitutes an armor "loss" for the coalition of 1990.

Kuwait was a member of the coalition practically in name only, they were a government-in-exile and all of those losses were lost BEFORE the coalition even voted to join together.  That invasion ended Aug 4th... with a decisive Iraq victory... any losses sustained in that conflict, while techically related, had absolutely zero to so with the coalition losses.

Their primary contribution was the promise of cheaper oil to the west after their fields were returned, A very small number of Kuwait soldiers and armor escaped to Saudi Arabia... but that number is extremely low and were mostly morale builders in the vein of  "you didnt defeat all of us" sentiment that has been echoed in the past by the Free French forces in WW2 and the Belgians in WW2.... who are extremely proud of the 5% of the country on the West side of the Yser river that didnt get overtaken by the Germans in that war .

The Kuwait invasion was an entirely seperate act to the actual attack/ invasion of Iraq that occured 5.5 months after the original invasion.

that fucking stat should read as losses of the Iraq-Kuwait War of 1990.   And a 2nd entry for the Gulf War of 1991

The rest of the actual invasion coalition forces lost less than 100 armored vehicles combined.

Just finished the video that I posted at the top of this page, and as always, I’d put this guy in the top three of vloggers in terms of knowledge about the situation, with Perdun being another, and my third rotating between a few people.

For those of you who don’t know of him, Anders Puck Nielsen Is a military analyst at the Royal Danish Defence College with a specialty in Russia, and a Captain in the Royal Danish Navy, with secerL publications pre-Ukraine discussing how to counter/defeat Russia

https://dk.linkedin.com/in/anderspucknielsen/en

His website with his articles, book, videos, etc, https://www.logicofwar.com

This video is a good breakdown of what some in the West/USA maybe pushing in terms of “peace talks” and how we look at “victory” differently than Putin. Full transcript if you’d rather read, with the opening quoted below.

@InkaUtexas and @956 Worldwide have probably heard this stuff.

https://www.logicofwar.com/what-is-russias-plan-for-victory/

Quote

In this video I discuss how Russia can achieve their war aims through peace negotiations. Many people in the West have a simplistic idea of what the war is about, and therefore they focus on the wrong issues in discussions about possible peace plans. This is a weakness that Russia can use to drive a wedge between Ukraine and the West in the negotiations that will probably be coming in the early months of 2025.

Quote

I've made videos about Ukraine's plans for victory and how they envision the war ending in a way that's positive for them, but it's been a while since I've talked about it from the Russian perspective. So, in this video, I want to talk about how we should understand the Russian war effort and what their goals are. And it's an important conversation because many people in the West have misconceptions about what the Russians are fighting for, and therefore, they also have incorrect ideas about what a peace deal could look like. So, let's talk about it.

Quote

The most important thing to understand about the war in Ukraine is that it's not a war about territory. It is by far the biggest misconception about the war that it's a conflict over who gets to keep the most territory once the war is over. If you look at the Western media, almost all the articles will be discussing the war in this way. That's why I keep stressing this point whenever I make these videos: it is simply wrong to understand it as primarily a war about territory.

Quote

What the war is really about is political influence over all of Ukraine, and that's the key to understanding Russia's war aims as well. What it is they're fighting for. When Putin launched the invasion in 2022, he didn't have the ambition to conquer all of Ukraine and to make it a part of Russia. The goal was to achieve regime change in Ukraine and to insert a government that would be more favorable to Russia and that would be under Putin's control. So Ukraine would still formally be an independent country, but it would be a part of Russia's sphere of influence. It would be a part of what the Russians like to call the near abroad, where they have extended political influence and they can dictate the politics in the areas where they see a need to do so.

He’s right about what the core issue and aims of expanding the war in 2022 were— political control over Ukraine and a veto over its integration into western structures and communities.  Territory is secondary although it will be part of any negotiations; Russia annexed the four eastern oblasts but left their borders undefined for a reason.  Putin will be loathe to finish the war with less than he had when it began; it is important to him at home and it’s important to Ukrainians.  Significant losses will lead to dissatisfaction with the current Ukrainian government which he can exploit. But his real aim will be to drive a wedge between Ukraine and Europe and to leave it vulnerable to Russian manipulation.

At any negotiations the Russians will dig in and become obstreperous and implacable over issues they don’t really care as much about because it’s the way they do business; the goal is to wear down interlocutors and make any small concession seem like a massive loss so they can be even more intransigent on core issues.

Bingo. The orange revolution caused this. When Putin lost his puppet, he was going to reassert dominion over Ukraine the easy way (install another puppet) or the hard way (war). That is the rule for Russia. Smart players see that and will always counter with that in mind.

Though I agree it is more about the power vs. land impact, he does like certain things the Ukraine brings. It goes hand in hand a bit. Russia likes Ukraine. Wants to own it. Always has. Food. They want it and and they do not want others to have it (including those pesky Ukrainians). Russia is the petulant little kid on the block.

And now there are off shore reserves to add to that.

Russia always "justifies" their land grabs based on threat, never on reality. Fuckers have a history of keeping their population scared of the boogeyman and using that fear for external expansion and internal control.

@956 Worldwide, you know the region better than me. Are they still dealing with the Mongol lineage and feeling different? Thus they have to prove they are superior? Those I have worked with got pissed if you brought up that part of history. As if there were only two things in their history, beating Napoleon and Hitler.

Oh, and when they got pissed I would remind them that the real Russian heroes were Georgian and that is why they wanted to conquer it so bad.

I don’t think they are self-conscious about the Mongol admixture so much as they are self-conscious about the supposed lost centuries under the Tatar yoke. The Russian cultural milieu has kind of swung between westernizers who what to ape the west by force and slavophiles who believe they have some special mission to spiritually enlighten the west.

Right now neo-slavophilia is in fashion because Putin needs a great civilizational conflict.  And on some level, it’s a motivator as Putin fears the example of a large Slavic, Orthodox nation successfully adopting western values and democracy and integrating. But the slavophilia, which was once useful as agitprop to undermine the Habsburgs, remains gibberish for the rubes.
