The Irish are also pretty good at celebrating wins and losses that  happened many hundreds of years ago.

Hence my theme song. On closer investigation, Sullivans march across Ireland, probably committing mayhem, other local Irish commit mayhem back. Drink beer, hum a tune.

Even though it’s ostensibly an American song, it seems like when any Irishman gets drunk, they automatically know how to belt out the entirety of “Mr. Brightside”.

Makes an awesome ring tone too, while bringing back memories of scouting around San Antonio with Czech friends.

And at least it's not The Corrs, flavorless smooth-peanut-butter music that the Irish girls were stuck on back in the Aughts.

Actually the Irish I hung out back then were big Dixie Chicks fans. They couldn't tell Hillbilly from Irish. Which I guess is the point.

Serbs use Kosovo Polje to justify all their wars against all their neighbors. Bold is mine.

The mythologization of the battle and writings began shortly after the event, though the legend was not fully formed immediately after the battle but evolved from different originators into various versions. In Serbian folklore, the Kosovo Myth acquired new meanings and importance during the rise of Serbian nationalism in the 19th century as the Serbian state sought to expand, especially towards Kosovo which was still part of the Ottoman Empire. In modern discourse, the battle would come to be seen as integral to Serbian history, tradition and national identity. Vidovdan is celebrated on June 28 and is an important Serbian national and religious holiday as a memorial day for the Battle of Kosovo.[10]

Spoiler

The Battle of Kosovo took place on 15 June 1389[A] between an army led by the Serbian Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović and an invading army of the Ottoman Empire under the command of Sultan Murad Hüdavendigâr.

The battle was fought on the Kosovo field in the territory ruled by Serbian nobleman Vuk Branković, in what is today Kosovo, about 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) northwest of the modern city of Pristina. The army under Prince Lazar consisted mostly of his own troops, a contingent led by Branković, and a contingent sent from Bosnia by King Tvrtko I, commanded by Vlatko Vuković. However, Lazar was also supported by a Christian coalition from various European ethnic groups. Prince Lazar was the ruler of Moravian Serbia and the most powerful among the Serbian regional lords of the time, while Branković ruled the District of Branković and other areas, recognizing Lazar as his overlord.

Reliable historical accounts of the battle are scarce.[9] The bulk of both armies were wiped out, and Lazar and Murad were killed. The battle marked the only time in history when an Ottoman Sultan was killed in battle. Serbian manpower was depleted and had no capacity to field large armies against future Ottoman campaigns, which relied on new reserve forces from Anatolia. The Serbian principalities that were not already Ottoman vassals, became so in the following years.

No doubt. I was thinking of it specifically as the recognition of a defeat as a day celebrating the birth of a new national identity.

At the start of December, Ukraine's 13th National Guard Brigade, "Khartia," carried out its first fully robotic operation in the Kharkiv sector, employing an unprecedented number of robotic and unmanned systems. The operation, designed to set conditions for further advancements, utilized ground-based robots (including mining, demining, and kamikaze drones, as well as mobile turrets) and various UAVs (heavy bombers, observation drones, and FPVs).

Some interesting info here, including that we are still providing intel on Russian locations. Continued on the next post

Lt Kostyantin is a Black Forest platoon commander, using UK and Ukrainian unmanned aircraft to hunt targets. On discovery, they pass the target co-ordinates back to other units equipped with UK and US long-range missiles launched by jets or multiple launch rocket systems. 2/

Storm Shadow strikes are not like his team’s other kills, Kostya told me. After HIMARS, there is usually chaos: Russians running from the smoke clouds and the wounded crawling through debris. With SS, “There was a big boom and a big hole in the ground. No one was left moving.” 4/

Kostyantin’s drones were in the air for only 50 minutes before he discovered the station and called in a devastating strike by US-supplied Atacms long-range missiles. A month later, President Biden authorised the use of the missiles to strike targets inside Russia. 6/

The brigade’s deployment of advanced Nato systems to deplete the Kremlin’s forces showcases their battlefield potency and the impact that similar systems such as German Taurus missiles could have, should these long-range weapons be provided to Ukraine at scale. 8/

Even after years of war, when we thought the Russians could not get any more cynical, we see something even worse.

Russia not only sends the North Korean troops to storm Ukrainian positions, but also tries to conceal losses of these people.

They tried to hide the presence of North Korean soldiers. It was prohibited to show their faces during training. The Russians attempted to erase any video evidence of their presence.

And now, after first combats with our warriors, Russians are trying… to literally burn the faces of North Korean soldiers killed in battle.

This is a demonstration of disrespect, which is currently prevalent in Russia, a disrespect to everything human.

There is not a single reason for North Koreans to fight and die for Putin. And even after they do, Russia has only humiliation for them.

This madness must be stopped—stoped by a reliable and durable peace, as well as Russia’s accountability for this cynical war.

Well yeah, nobody expected the Russians to give two shits about the Norks other than "better them than me".

I'm not surprised they'd burn the faces off of the Norks either, given how little they care for their fellow Russians.

We knew they were recruiting older - those didn't look like minorities from the outlying regions nor did they look like hardened criminals - wonder how they got roped into it.

General in charge of chemical attacks on Ukraine killed IN MOSCOW by a remotely detonated bomb that blew up a moped.  "Baza says that Russian investigators are considering several versions of how the assassins could have watched Kirillov exit the building, including hacking the building's CCTV or renting an apartment in the building. The scooter with explosives was placed at the entrance around 4:00 am, and the explosives were detonated via radio signal, according to preliminary information."

Wow. Right on the street in Moscow. That's got to be chilling.

This is actually a consequence of a partial embargo on Russian oil. Since they can still trade with some, they need to transport to those countries. I’m guessing that most legit and safe transport options are not available to them. Or even if those options are there, they reject them for cost reasons
