I posted more than once I don't want to allow myself to be dehumanized by these videos and allow myself not to acknowledge the loss of human life.

I hate myself for it a little bit, but I could not stop laughing at that video. It's absolutely something out of a Monthy Python scene.

Drill Sargeant:(In Russian Accent) "You will learn to take the drone explosion in your ass if you want to survive."

Private: "Wouldn't it be better not to get hit by the drone?"

Yep, I shouldn't laugh, and my second thought was to freeze it and put an Olympics logo on it and have some long jump scores listed.  The Olympics record is 29 feet and I'm pretty sure he cleared it.

Or have the guy flying across a washed-out bridge in place of the General Lee.

Come to think of it, Boss Hogg really did rip everybody off there - it seemed like Hazzard County was full of washed-out bridges that were never repaired.

Interesting.... The man has cojones.

"Security guarantees without America are not real security guarantees," he said.

Trump is keen for both sides to reach a deal, the terms of which are a source of concern in Ukraine.

Zelensky told the Guardian he would offer Russian President Vladimir Putin territory that Ukraine seized in Russia's Kursk region six months ago.

As critical as I am of our current regime, and as much as I expect them to betray Ukraine and bend over for Russia.....we have plenty of posts on this and the CR thread by posters around here (including me) acknowledging that the final resolution to this war is almost certainly going to involve some Ukrainian territory staying in Russian hands.

That's just real talk.  Now, whether member of the US presidential cabinet should be fucking SAYING that out loud is another question.

@Laxtonto I guess this is the carrot, give Russia part of Ukraine.

The 2014 borders were never going to happen, without Ukraine making gains into Crimea. The failure/unwillingness/not being permitted to do any measurable advance over the Dnipro sealed that. This has been an ongoing complaint of mine for over a year now.

Worse, the loss of most of Donetsk (which once again Ukraine had the opportunity to counterattack and split Luhansk via the Svatore salient but did not) leaves them in the negative in the land trade game.

Any argument against that last year or so of operational failures and slow loss of territory has made their bargaining position way worse than it was 12 months ago is now moot.

I don't have to like it, but from a negotiations standpoint what is there to "trade" to get back to the 2014 borders? Kurst might get you back Melitpol. Not pushing to Belgorod was a mistake.

Negotiating based on "trading" is a mistake. That whole perspective is fucked. Kill every fucking Russian every fucking where. That is what Ukraine should be doing. And it shouldn't stop until every Russian is dead or Russia goes home. And we should give them every fucking weapon they need to make it happen. If Ukraine wants to negotiate, cool. In no fucking universe should we be making them. Fuck all of this. And fuck anyone rationalizing it.

Zelenskyy knows how the options play out and that any "talks" Trump hosts will go nowhere.  He's hosting these conversations in attempt to accomplish a campaign statement and doesn't care about supporting Europe.

https://www.economist.com/europe/2025/02/12/transcript-an-interview-with-volodymyr-zelensky

Quote

VZ: I’m sure there isn’t a ready plan yet. Why? Because a plan can’t be purely American. Because the war is happening here. And without our joint work, without consulting us, I think it can’t be complete. President Trump’s team probably has some developments. I’m sure they do, because it’s a very important issue for them.

And we haven’t seen those developments yet. We haven’t seen them, and we haven’t heard any proposals. That’s it. I think February will be the month when this work begins. I think President Trump is dealing with domestic issues in the United States, and I think that’s his priority. At least, that’s what we see in the public domain, and I don’t have any other information.

Quote

VZ: I’m just not sure that Putin has some number of conversations with Trump. I’m not sure that this is happening. Their teams are probably in contact. But for me, you know why the work of Trump’s team differs from the work of the previous administration?

First of all, everyone was contacting the Russians. And there’s more information about this in the media now than there was under the previous administration. So, the American and Russian intelligence services were communicating. Representatives of the administrations, presidents, they definitely communicated.

We know this, it was behind the scenes, away from the public eye, from almost the whole world. But they still communicated. And therefore, if teams are talking about something somewhere, I’m not surprised. Just like our teams communicate in various ways.

They have different messages, etc, they discuss certain things. Well, that’s it. But the question is whether there’s any decision-making. And that’s what we’re talking about when we say that it’s very dangerous if decisions are made about us without Ukraine. Dangerous for everyone: for the world, for Ukrainians, for Europe, and for the USA.

And why? Because Trump, I think, needs to help Ukraine win this. And he wants this. That’s how I understand it. Again, from open sources. And this is how I understand it after our conversations with him. And Putin can’t be trusted. If a plan is developed without Ukraine, who will follow this plan? No one.

Quote

VZ: Honestly, I think that the vice-president of the United States today is focused on domestic issues. I think, in principle, this team is more concerned with the domestic politics of America and Americans than with international politics.

Quote

And that Putin won’t end this war for us. I think no one understands what war is until it comes to your home. I don’t want to scare anyone. It will come. I’m just telling you the facts.

As the world is slowly stopping Putin today, slowly, too slowly, it will come. And that’s a fact. I recently gave an example. I just received it from the Security Service, from two of my intelligence services. I always get it from several sources, then I look, analyse, and I can share information when I see a large number of coincidences.

Quote

VZ: There will be no ceasefire just for the sake of a ceasefire. A ceasefire can be part of the end of the hot phase of a war. And then you need to understand what the security guarantees are. Without a security guarantee, a ceasefire just so that Putin can come in two months. No, it is impossible. And so, the hot stage of the war will end. If it ends, then martial law will end, probably.

Maybe. But that's a pretty huge leverage point with Russia. Giving it up for nothing signals exactly what is happening. Only a sucker would believe otherwise.

Or leave NATO as is. Let the Eastern countries form an Anti-russia warsaw pact. I mean, it is not like Portugal is going to do shit if Russia attacks Finland.

The US can join as an Observer, etc. Nations can be part of multiple groups. We are.

This sucks but I don’t see a good way out of a long/forever WW1 slog.  Seems to my uninformed brain Ukraine’s gonna hafta play the long game.  Kill all the Russians they can, right up to the armistice, take whatever “peace” the US gives them, then rearm as well as possible, while letting the vodka, PTSD, inflation, deflation, sanctions and hopefully AIDS-cancer whittle at Russia’s physical ability to fight.  Putin and his fuckwad successors will send more conscripts in a few years to finish the job.  Gotta make sure there aren’t many.

Russia is running on fumes. Ukraine is now producing 4 million drones per year and striking deep into Russia every night. No matter what our fat fucking regard claims to negotiate, Ukraine isn’t quitting, and at least Poland and the Baltics are ready to nut up if the US pusses out.

I don't think Ukraine is quitting, but there's no way Ukraine and Europe can - at least right now - produce the amount of shells they need without the US.  Hell, even the US can't produce what they need right now. That's more what I had in mind.

#87548

From what I've been reading from people I follow. The mood in Ukraine is a bit sour, they see this as a sign that they won't even be invited to the peace talks over their own Country, but outwardly trying to put on a brave face. So they see it as their worst fears coming true, a forced bad peace where they give everything and get nothing in return but a Minsk 3. Europe is their only hope, that either Europe can a) force it so Ukraine can be in the room when negotiations take place, b) force it so both Europe and Ukraine can be in the room, or c) that somehow they can garner enough political will to help provide troops. People on the ground though have been saying they'll keep on fighting though as a long as it takes even if we pull support because they see it for what it is, a matter of their own survival.

From the VZ interview article I posted above, the real concern is any sort of negotiated ceasefire will eventually lead to more sham elections for Putin to install his puppets:
