Accepting the “idea” of a ceasefire is like having the “concept” of a plan.  Putin has rejected the terms but wants to see if he can get Trump to lean harder on Ukraine and open up a bigger gap within NATO.

He will also push very hard in Kursk because he wants to only have Russians in Ukraine and not the other way around if there is a ceasefire.

Unleash the tribes.

Man, sanctions on the export of chromium to Russia sound absolutely GREAT for Ukraine's cause.  Also seems like something that should have been done... you know... 3 years ago.

The previous administration was somewhat handcuffed by a legislature that was actively defying any type of productivity and would scream bloody murder and cause legislative logjams if he tried anything close to the current prez.

It's just somewhat disengenuous and frustrating to see comments like that, completely ignoring what was happening at that time. And that Trump was the active arsonist on the outside causing all the logjams to Ukrainian aid.

The article is referring to EU sanctions on the export of chromium to Russia, as was I.

One of the largest enterprises in Russia’s Orenburg region, the Novotroitsk Plant of Chromium Compounds, is set to shut down on March 14 due to a halt in chrome ore supplies, The Moscow Times reported on March, citing a work meeting on the development of the Advanced Special Economic Zones in the Orenburg region, attended by regional prosecutor Ruslan Medvedev.

According to the news agency, Imports of this crucial material ceased following the introduction of new European sanctions. The Kazakh company that previously supplied the ore has refused to continue cooperation.

The plant’s general director, Vasily Izmalkin, noted that Europe banned the supply of chrome compounds and chrome ore to Russia in February.

“Everything has been prohibited. Starting Friday, we are shutting down the plant because there is no raw material,” he stated.

I checked this out on the map, and the rail bridge they're passing over is almost exactly 49 miles SOUTH of where Putin's Palace (Google map link) is located. So, it's within range.

Around $80 million per plane, X 28 planes. That’s over $2 billion in lost sales for Lockheed.

I've been wondering about stuff like Lockheed, and other,  losing sales. Doesn't our Military Industrial Complex spend like a gazillion dollars lobbying efforts? And aren't a bunch of their factories in "Red" States?

It's an oil refinery they built in a city.  Or a city that grew around an oil refinery.

Canada is now also reconsidering to buy F-35 jets from the USA. This comes only hours after Defence Minister Bill Blair got appointed. Up to 100 European companies and lobby groups including heavyweights Airbus and Dassault are pressing the European Commission to force more home-made technology into the bloc's digital infrastructure. https://www.politico.eu/article/airbus-dassault-others-press-von-der-leyen-for-made-in-europe-tech/
Quote

In a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and tech sovereignty chief Henna Virkkunen released on Monday, the companies said Europe needs to be "more technologically independent across all layers of its critical digital infrastructure."

Signatories want “Buy European” requirements for governments to increase demand for homegrown tech and a “sovereign infrastructure fund” to support investments in more capital-intensive industries like microchips and quantum technology.

Quote

Frank Karlitschek, CEO of German file storage provider Nextcloud, which signed the letter, said “I don’t think the goal is to be completely independent from the U.S. or the rest of the world … but at least have some assets so that we can at least negotiate.”

The plea follows an earlier industry initiative called EuroStack, which entails the idea of building out a core European tech infrastructure across three layers (hard infrastructure, intermediary services such as cloud services and applications) and reducing Europe’s many dependencies on U.S. Big Tech.
