In the aftermath of the Kursk invasion, we're seeing quite the push from folks like ISW on the topic of loosening US restrictions on Ukraine. Most of the Europeans are already on board. I expect a policy shift fairly soon. https://t.co/3XtmHsZcGx

Could Still be Alive

Adding to the intrigue, there are renewed rumors that Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was thought to have died in a helicopter crash in August, might still be alive. Former Wagner members reportedly believe that Prigozhin could be orchestrating the recent signals and instructions from hiding.

This theory, if true, would suggest that Prigozhin remains a significant and active player in Russian politics and military affairs.

A couple months after his plane blew up, I saw an interview with whoever was the head of Ukraine’s security service (or something like that, point being, he was at the top of a relevant food chain). After a specific comment about Prigozhin, the interviewer sort of confusingly asked whether the guy thought Prigozhin was dead, and he responded with something along the lines of “no, I have no reason to believe that at this time.” Never heard anything else about it, but that’s stuck with me ever since.

The oil depot in Proletarsk almost completely burned down. At least 20 tanks were affected by the fires and either burned down or were damaged beyond repair.

Beyoncé opened the Donbas Arena in Donetsk 15 years ago today. Tens of  thousands of young Ukrainians cheered her as she called out: “Hello Ukraine!”

Now uncut weeds grow outside the abandoned stadium behind Russian lines. Russia systematically depopulated the city and the entire region. All men were forcibly conscripted into units with 50% casualty rates. Basically genocide, forcing Ukrainians into endless suicide wave assaults on Ukrainian positions.

Nazi Germany did not succeed in destroying the Donbas but Putin managed it. An entire region practically wiped from the face of the Earth with zero fertility, massive emigration and forced conscription into kamikaze brigades.

The beautiful Russian World.

Closely watching the video of explosions on the road, off to the left side some distance away you can see a brief flash in the distance at about 0:02 and another more visible explosion/flash at 0:06.  Looks to me like something was fired from over there, like mortar rounds.

Many have commented on Russia's advance west of Donetsk towards Pokrovsk and the short/longer term possibilities. There's a lot of random data that supports a plan to trap and cutoff the Russian advance from their established base to the east.

Below is a google screen shot to add some color to the picture.

image.thumb.png.01cfbd6bab476ddceaa48006f268bed4.png

It's easy to see why it's called the mud season; there is not a normal river in this area, just a bunch of drainage areas/channels of sorts that eventually drain to larger ponds and lakes.

Pokrovsk is the logistics hub, population ~ 60,000. Ocheretyne (what, where?) has a population ~ 3,500. There isn't much else out here, just a bunch of little villages and towns. The rail line between Donetsk and Pokrovsk is the main feature, traversing the high ground between the cities. The larger roads are shown, with smaller secondary and tertiary roads serving the area.

Where the rail line makes a "dip" on the map west of "Ocher", the elevation drops from a ~750' plateau down to ~ 500' elevation. The area before and after Ocher is a very narrow corridor (1-3 miles wide) on the high ground between the various water channels. There is not an obvious railroad bridge west of Avdiivka.

If and when the railroad west of Avdiivka is out of service, getting supplies to anything west to there would be very difficult, just a bunch of smallish roads in well defined corridors, with a choke point ~10 miles long and about 1-2 miles wide, all within a few miles of Ukraine-Russia contact line. Spotting for field artillery from a lower ground elevation would be difficult, but with the drones available, or some of the F-16's screaming across the deck, "Fugget about it!

I'm betting Ukraine has a rail bridge party here sometime soon, as well as taking out the 3 or 4 bridges in Kurst that cuts off Belrogod and 10,000 square miles, and a few others here and there.

Any guestimates on the number of Russian troops and equipment west of Ocher?

Yeah the doomcasting on Reddit, even going so far as to claim Kursk will prove to be a huge mistake, over pokrovsk is out of control. Russia will continue to obliterate this territory and lose countless men and equipment. It’s their only strategy. Ukraine could put all their men in pokrovsk and it won’t change the outcome. It will eventually be completely destroyed at an huge cost to Russia. Invading Russia was the right move.

100% the Kursk offensive is a winning strategy.

The invasion puts even more pressure on Putin.  He has an enemy entrenched on Russian sovereign territory, and by all accounts, they’re not leaving.

IMO, this puts enormous pressure on Putin to deliver a victory, any kind of victory, as a PR stunt, to delay the inevitable coup.  Regardless of the cost in ground down Russian war capability and manpower, Putin HAS to deliver Pokrovsk.

You mean like a river bank? Seems Ukraine has control of one.

I expect Russia to eventually go full Seelow heights to take it back, but it is a shit time of year and not sure they have the airforce to do it surgically. When do they bring out the Katyusha's?

There has been very little on TV regarding Ukraine, lately. I find it interesting that Ukraine didn't tell the West about the attack beforehand and Ukraine credits its success to this tactic. It is a big black eye for not only us but other NATO members as well. Yet, I don't see mention of it. I would love to know the reasons for our reluctance. It doesn't appear to be nuclear war. So, I would lean towards things like destabilization of Russia and the Stans, high oil and gas prices, and maybe potential Chinese aggression in Russia's far east.

Regardless of regime, Russia has always been an imperialist aggressor, trying to conquer and maintain a buffer zone of expendable territory.

That said, your assumption is valid, along the mantra of “the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.”  There is a pervasive fear of an even madder-man controlling nuclear weapons.  I’m not sure that Russia’s strategic nuclear forces are effective or even functional.  It is probably a safe assumption that their strategic nuclear forces have had the same graft, corruption, and pilfering the rest of Russian military has.

The problem for Putin is that the average Russian doesn’t care about Pokrovsk or even know where it is.  They do know where Kursk is.

What worked at the Seelow Heights won't work here.   Sure, the Russians can drop a shit ton of arty rounds like they did in 1945 but they don't have 1,000,000 men to then throw at into the fray.  There were another 1,500,000 men north and south of the attack.

I'm so hoping there is an army of robot dogs sleeping under piles of rubble just waiting for the Russians to push far enough so they can all wake up at once, shake the dirt off, and start chasing down Russians.

🔥 Russia: Gas distribution pipeline facility near the power plant that also got hit in Tver region, north of Moscow.

Ukrainian hacker group is going to be posting more of it's activities, apparently

This is the screenshot after today. No power flowing. Poor Orcs. Have will be posting all of our attacks going forward, for the record.

📢 @KremlinRussia_E @mfa_russia you are going to have a very, very bad week in cyber. This is the 2nd power plant we got into, this one bigger than the last and using a gas-turbine engine. We have actually been in it since July, but today was the day to see it downed. 👊🇺🇦

This was in full operation until today, I will post those screenshots next. This is the most sophisticated SCADA HMI system we have ever attacked. The interesting bit is that we could not geolocate where is in Russia, as the IP is registered in Moscow but we unsure of where it is Actually routed to.

Op-Encore will continue for the next several weeks at least, these are only the opening moves. We will not stop until Russia is defeated or we run out of targets. Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦

Keep in mind that Moscow is protected by a ring of 22 S-300/S-400 air defense sites, most of which should cover the refinery.Additionally, there are at least 9 recently redeployed Pantsir S1/S2 systems that should have been able to protect against this type of drone attack1/2 https://t.co/SLL5SwLxFd

It's rare you see a Russian powerplant and a Russian gas distribution center on fire in the same footage. But here we are, SMO going according to plan.

Video of the moment a Russian missile hit a supermarket in Kharkiv today. Dozens of people are reportedly killed and injured

Every time Russian pilots drop bombs & fire missiles at #Ukraine, they thank @POTUS. They cheer America's "escalation" idiocy of refusing to allow Ukraine to strike 🇷🇺 airfields with US long-range missiles. Kharkiv city again struck today, numerous civilian targets hit, with multiple casualties reported. facebook.com/MNS.GOV.UA/pos…

Just 14-years-old, she was sitting on a bench in a children's playground. Russia had already killed her father in eastern #Ukraine, and then Russia came back to kill her.

Yesterday in Kharkiv city, this young girls head was all but decapitated by shrapnel, when Russian bombs struck an apartment block & a children's playground. 7 people died, and around 90 were wounded, including many children. R.I.P

Guaranteed kill. Drone could’ve been on the last few seconds of battery power. Operator might’ve already started his divebomb and lost video feed before the other two ran off. Could be any number of reasons.
