Vladimir Putin has signed a decree lowering the threshold for Russia's use of nuclear weapons. It follows a US decision to allow Ukraine to carry out long-range missile strikes on Russia using American weapons. Ukraine has carried out its first such attack, with Russia confirming that US ATACMS missiles have hit its Bryansk region.

Russia’s revised nuclear doctrine states that a conventional attack on Russia by any nation that is supported by a nuclear power will be considered a joint attack. An attack on Russia with conventional missiles, drones or aircraft could meet the criteria for a nuclear response.

The Kremlin urged other countries to study the changes. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the decree as “a very important text” and said "it should become a subject to a very deep analysis".

Recently Russia warned it would deliver “an appropriate and tangible” response to the US President's decision to let Ukraine use ATACMS missiles to strike the country. Russia's foreign ministry said that such an attack "would represent the direct involvement of the United States and its satellites in hostilities against Russia”.

No.  It most certainly is not.  I'd say it's more likely to happen than not.  Putin owns Trump.

Daily criticisms of Biden on this thread and never a peep from the "take it to the CR!" crowd.

There's been criticism of the US administrations actions with regards to Ukraine, there's also been speculation and trepidation about the incoming administration and what they will do. But getting into Manchurian candidate conspiracy theories is a bridge too far I think most are saying.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tells me that Ukraine cannot spend thousands of soldiers to retake Crimea. Zelenskyy says that any return of Crimea would have to be done diplomatically.

Guessing this is why Kursk is so important right now

Ukraine allegedly struck a facility in Kursk region believed to house an underground command post linked to Putin with Storm Shadow missiles, - Defense Express.

This information has not been officially confirmed and remains speculative.

According to the publication:

▪️The missile strike was filmed near the historic Baryatinsky estate, now a sanatorium managed by the Administrative Directorate of the President of the Russian Federation.

▪️The targeted site is located in the eastern part of the complex, identified as a "communications hub." It is suggested that this may not be an ordinary communications facility but rather a fortified underground command post.

▪️North Korean troops are active in the Kursk region, raising the possibility that North Korean generals may also have been present at the site.

The report adds that a facility of this nature would justify the use of the expensive Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles. These missiles, equipped with 450-kg warheads, are specifically designed to penetrate fortified structures.

Less factories, less salaries, more wanting to join the military. Putin and his boys already have their riches. While their kids are still living abroad they are insulated from the bad shit that is coming at them. Remember, most of these fucks we part of the USSR's protected class (industry, kgb, etc.) and had access to dollars AND dollar stores. They were not in the breadlines.

The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that Russia struck the Ukrainian city of Dnipro with a conventionally armed ICBM this morning, marking the first combat use of an ICBM in history. Footage from Dnipro showed glowing reentry vehicles hitting the ground around 5 AM local time.

pic.twitter.com/XUmzVBjfnI

Thread that goes into further detail

Some reports mentioned the RS-26 missile. Even if we believe them, RS-26 is not really an intercontinental missile. It was tested at the range of more than 5500 km, but it is in effect an intermediate-range missile, (think of it as SS-20 2.0): https://t.co/4y2uPjyZWD 2/
Using these kinds of missiles, whether RS-26 or a true ICBM, in a conventional role does not make a lot of sense because of their relatively low accuracy and high cost. But this kind of a strike might have a value as a signal. 5/

In a critical editorial, Der Spiegel accuses German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of failing Ukraine by hesitating to send Taurus missiles, possibly for electoral reasons.  The editorial stresses that Ukraine’s immediate needs are critical, and Germany’s hesitation could have disastrous consequences.

During the briefing, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova received a phone call and was asked not to comment on the strike on the Dnipro by an intercontinental ballistic missile. But thanks to Masha's intelligence, "no one heard anything."

 Probably staged.

Although MIRV and ICBM are often somewhat synonymous, aren't we really talking about a MIRV missile, regardless of range?

Like all war/conflict threads, and the conflicts themselves, this one has worn me out.

I support Ukraine's right to self-determination and deplore the piece of dick that is Vladimir Putin and increasingly the people of Russia, but I can't devote any bandwidth to this anymore.

I hope Ukraine can emerge somewhat intact with Western support without the US, but hope in one hand, shit in the other.

How has it worn you out, too much reading?

I read an article yesterday (I apologize, I don't remember where) that stated that for the first time since the start of the invasion, the majority of Ukrainian people are now ready to negotiate a settlement.

It certainly appears that the Russian economy is teetering on the edge of collapse, but it also looks bad from a US political standpoint. I feel like if Trump and his team could just support this for a little while longer, the russian economy would be the end of this thing.

But if the Ukrainian people are already done fighting, how are supposed to keep expending resources to help them?

I agree but we also gotta recognize that the average Russian’s willingness to live in shit is an order of magnitude beyond what civilized men comprehend.  What we see as “teetering on collapse,” is just another day in Buttfuckilov Oblast.

And how well will all the sanctions stick after the war is ended (or likely just paused for a few years.). Will the rules start to slowly be ignored and Russia gets out of all it?

I certainly don't trust the US media on these reports. It likely comes from US government officials and their administrators sending a signal to the US public, Ukraine, and Russia that it is time to end the war and negotiate a settlement. I seriously doubt that things changed in Ukraine in the last month where people now want to end the war and have their country give in to Russian aggression.
