Of course he will. This was all an elaborate ruse to get Europe to step up. Not the knee jerk actions of a petulant child. No, of course not.

But I don't give a shit as long as it gets done.

That said, who the fuck knows what side of the bed the administration will wake up on next week.

Trump said that his team plans to talk to Putin this week, and discuss the 30-day ceasefire which has already been accepted by Ukraine. https://www.bbc.com/news/live/c51ypekv9xwt?post=asset%3Ad1cbf33e-a2f5-4e6f-835a-694a937dc2db#post

Macron has called on military leaders from 30 countries to plan security guarantees for Ukraine after a "peace deal" is reached. He also backed the 30-day ceasefire and progress in Ukraine-U.S. negotiations.

⚡️'Ball is in their court' — Rubio on Russia's move toward ceasefire with Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio voiced hope on March 11 that Russia would accept the proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine. https://kyivindependent.com/ball-is-in-their-court-rubio-on-russias-move-toward-ceasefire-with-ukraine/

US restoring military and  intelligence support following the Jeddah meeting. I’m shocked, honestly.
How soon before Russia declares they’re completely uninterested in the ceasefire and we’re right back where we started?

Within 90 seconds of the conversation beginning. It will go like this:
Prediction:  Russia is going to be uninterested in this and someone close to the administration will create a pretense to say that the Ukrainians weren’t serious.  I will be pleasantly surprised if any aid starts flowing again to Ukraine.  Hope I am wrong.

And you’re not wrong. This admin will 100% find a way to put Putin in the white hat, and Ukraine in the doghouse. Because TFG is a bottom bitch around anyone with any remote bit of power.

If Mark Kelly is a traitor, everyone that’s ever supported Ukraine with words or donations or actions is a traitor. Guess the South African billionaire with a drug habit and over a dozen kids he doesn’t know, knows best. So what are we going to do now that we’re all traitors?

What happened to Kellogg? Possibly a bit too positive on Ukraine when he visited Kyiv and the front line. Kellogg has likely been removed from negotiations on Russia’s war against Ukraine. https://www.politico.com/newsletters/national-security-daily/2025/03/11/what-happened-to-keith-kellogg-00223867

The narrative is that any cease fire would benefit Russia more than Ukraine, because Russia can rebuild reserves faster.  But is that true?  American aid is back on, the Europeans are spooling up, and Ukraine builds more and more of their own stuff.

Sure Russia will have time to drag T34’s out of the tree row, up armor Lada’s and such but it really seems Ukrain has the edge here.

Or does this refer to Russia’s time to conscript more backwater hillbillies and Norks?

I think it's based on every ceasefire in the past. Russia only abides by them until they've built back up while everybody else treats it like the conflict was over and goes back to business as usual (in this case, that would be Europe dialing back their investment in defense.

methinks it's getting another few divisions of norks to the front. it's about to be mud season anyway so a short ceasefire probably doesn't change the front lines much over the next bit.

I read the list of cancelled USAID projects. All I could see for Ukraine, like Power, were ended. There is one outlier I could no find. So if there is non-military aid getting in I could not find it. But then the list of the 17% that remained I did not find and don't have time to cross reference. Anyone sees it would love a link.

Send NORKS forward. Let them eat up Ukrainian bullets. Run over bodies like little bridges.

I generally agree but the militarization of about a dozen countries on a small continent with a history of massive conflict does seem to have its draw backs. There was a historical reason why the US was - for all intents and purposes - ok being the sole military power protecting Europe, with that deal came extreme security as the Europeans could complain but could not really do much about their grievances. For now I think Europe as a counter balance is fantastic, but it won’t always be that way.

Yep, it takes 2-3 generations for Europeans to fight. Their wars are mean. We look at Africa and wars are continual, but when was the last time a capitol city was leveled?

Watch the Balkans. It is the perfect place for the split and a re-ignition. The stuff in the Serbian part of Bosnia is not good. 2-3 years we hear the Serbs start talking Kosovo again, especially if we leave.

Oh well, what we can predict is Italy under a right wing government will get involved, send troops and get their asses kicked.

They were/are our largest trading partner.  While we like to talk about being (at least in the past) the "Defender of Democracy" the reality is that so much of what we do militarily is not out of altruistic principles, but because the spice goods must flow.

We intervene in or prop up countries and feed poor countries because we want those markets and natural resources and/or we want to keep other countries (China, formerly the USSR, possibly India in the future) from nudging us out of the equation.

Bullshit. In some ways. we do it because we are the only ones who 1- care, 2- give a fuck, 3- were fed media. Pre 1990? Nope. Sally Struthers and the Horn of Africa.

Prop up who? And India will implode under its own weight.

I'm sure some of what we do is because we care, but I don't think it gets sold in Congress without discussing what it does for our economy.

And I will add that it's in our interest to prevent more wars in Europe, not just because they are our largest trading partner, but that's a large part of it - we can't help but get involved once wars scaled up to the numbers they did starting in WWI, and that means American dead, and it's cheaper to keep things under control than send American boys off to die.

With that said, we have the navy that we do because we want to have that influence and we want to keep lanes open for US or US-adjacent shipping. When the Red Sea shit blew up, the world looked to the US, and the US felt obligated because of the amount of shipping that goes through there. It's the same reason the Brits had a massive navy for as long as they did, albeit we are a lot less colonial than they were.

It's also why Russia struggles to project power over long distances (although I'd say they were struggling to project power into the country next door).

I do think this will be the year that the war truly comes home for a lot of Russians who bury their heads in the sand about what's happening. There's only so many Norks that can be funneled into Kursk, and if Russia is slowing down or losing ground in some parts of Ukraine, that's a manpower problem, and Putin is going to have to get a lot more aggressive about drafting Russians in Moscow and St Pete's.

Ukraine used “an official communication channel” to reach out to Signal about how the app is being abused by Russians, including for phishing attacks and account takeovers targeting Ukrainian users. Previously, the company responded to such requests, but that is no longer the case.

Diplomatically, Ukraine has definitely flipped the script.
Again not stanning for our President, but he DID threaten to jack up sanctions on Russia.  The “2x4 across the donkey’s nose,” as is said.

My expectations are low.  Our best bet is if Russia insults Trump in some way.  Hurt his feelings and he’ll maybe go harder on them.

Accepting the “idea” of a ceasefire is like having the “concept” of a plan.  Putin has rejected the terms but wants to see if he can get Trump to lean harder on Ukraine and open up a bigger gap within NATO.

He will also push very hard in Kursk because he wants to only have Russians in Ukraine and not the other way around if there is a ceasefire.

However, those payments can be processed through the Mar A Lago "payment center" for a low, low, 20% transaction fee.  Or some shit like that.

Look for the grift/scam.  You WILL find it.

As Biden worked with Europe to get sanctions passed, an issue that came up was European payments for gas and oil (that they hadn’t weaned off of) that Russia insisted on channeling to sanctioned Russian banks.  Biden issued a waiver for these payments only to get broader sanctions in place and Europe vowed to work to get off Russian energy.

That waiver has expired and hasn’t yet been renewed meaning that Europeans risk triggering secondary sanctions.  It’s a small bit of pressure that also guts Europe, it’s not a new tool.
