So of us believe Russia will need to be starved into quitting.  Good news on that front:

Well, I don't buy into the starved into quitting, because I'm firmly of the belief that coup/assassination is the only way Putin stops.

That said, it's absolutely fuel to the fire of both the Military and Oligarchs that would throw said coup/assassination. A hungry people is VERY bad for both.

Somewhat rhetorical.  But Russia is historically a wheat exporter.  This year they're gonna hafta decide between exporting a lot of wheat for foreign $$$, or keeping domestic food (bread) prices low.  History suggests there's a >0% chance they'll export more than they "should" and let their people suffer.

And fortunately global wheat prices are not bonkers.  Good production elsewhere.  So maybe we'll get the best of both worlds.  Acceptable food prices elsewhere, and Fuck Russia.

I doubt that the drought stops at the Russian/Ukraine border, so that sounds like bad news for the good guys as well

True, but at least Ukraine can and will recieve aid from the rest of the world. Russia is stuck with only China, NK and Iran. And I don't see NK sending any of their "surplus" food.

Didn't mean to express such a controversial take.  Ukraine and Russia are but large ag exporters.  Difference here is Russia is much more dependent on ag exports, as everything else is restricted or outright banned.  Ukraine has a more diverse economy, on top of outright weapons and cash aid. A drought hurts Russia more.  And good.

Other than the Nork borscht protein created every day.   And it’s not “cannibalism” unless you’re eating someone from Moscow.  New Putin law should’ve told you.

I don't think your point was controversial. Rather, I think the way you voiced it's impact was odd. Mostly because of your stated position appeared to imply, to me, that hunger and poverty of Russian Citizens, would stop Putin. The idea that Putin gives a rats ass about hungry or poor citizens and their issues altering his approach is errant based on what we know about Putin.

That's in no way down playing the impact of them, rather the ultimate path it causes. Hope that makes sense and the information is valued and a good add, so thank you.

And a locust swarm. Furk.

that are breeding in inaccessible areas near the frontline.

The insects are capable of devastating crops in days,

and officials say Russia’s war has made using traditional pest control methods impossible.

In the Zaporizhzhia region swarms of locusts have been covering roads, fields and bushes.

And producers say the insects have destroyed up to a third of their sunflower crops.

And hopefully in enough volume they can push Russia's safety zone a long ways further east.  Maybe take a few shots at the Kremlin as well.

I admit it sucks that you have three pre-teen girls trying to raise themselves with a drunken alcoholic idiot mom in a country where they don’t speak the language - and no one gives a shit if they die in the gutter after being raped by every Ivan in Adidas sweatpants in the neighborhood.

I’m sure the kids at school are treating them well - considering they are Americans - and the news says Trump is shitting all over Putin on the reg.

As much as I give no shits whatsoever about the dad dying, I still feel terrible every time I think about those girls - and wish there’s some way Trump could insist they be returned.  Leave the mom.

Saw HIV infections are up 20x among Russian soldiers compared to before the war. This guy is gonna hate life now. Yikes.

I wonder what their average life span is at the front though. Not much time to spread it around. Just among the walking dead anyhow.

If Ukrainian drones dropped bottles of vodka laced with fentanyl near Russian troop lines, would that be a war crime - or just a bunch of fun to watch?

It's not a war crime, the first time.

Why the hell would you put the fentanyl IN the watka? Drop care packages of needles, fentanyl and vodka. Throw in some Ritz crackers and ball point pens for giggles.

Zero chance of them NOT ingesting the F-juice?

But since you got me thinking - how about Ukrainian agents also delivering bunches of humanitarian water purification systems - that have hidden embedded GPS locators - so the drones and artillery have a better idea where to make it go boom?

LMFAO

An orc, on the front line, with access to free F-gigity and clean needles, choosing not to indulge. It's like you've just started following this thread.

Man, you are on a my-way-or-the-highway the last couple days.  I have no problem with your needles and fentanyl theory, but I want dead officers too, and putting it in the vodka would mean no matter the rank, the assholes are drinking it.     Plus, there would be two bites at the apple at the F giggity - the voluntary ingestion and the involuntary one.   Let’s not be selfish, let’s give them all an opportunity.

Private refiners Reliance Industries (RELI.NS),  and Nayara Energy are the biggest Russian oil buyers in India, but state refiners control over 60% of India's overall 5.2 million barrels per day refining capacity.

So, the biggest Russian oil buyers in India have not necessarily stopped, but the state refiners have stopped buying Russian oil. It doesn't say they have stopped refining it. Reuters also notes that the discount on Russian oil is not as advantageous as it once was. I read it is the lowest discount for Russian oil since the war began.

This adds to the good news though:

Oil prices fell more than $2 a barrel on Friday morning on jitters about a possible increase in production by OPEC and its allies, while weaker-than-expected U.S. jobs report fed worries about demand.

Donald Trump has said the US has moved its nuclear submarines “closer to Russia” in response to threats made by a former Russian president.

"We always want to be ready, and so I have sent to the region two nuclear submarines," Mr Trump told US broadcaster Newsmax. "I just want to make sure that his (Medvedev's) words are only words and nothing more than that."

The US president had yesterday said he had ordered to nuclear submarines to be deployed to “appropriate region”,

It came after Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, who is renowned for making inflammatory statements, suggested Moscow could strike the US with a nuclear weapon. #

Meanwhile, Fires have erupted in a major Russian oil refinery after a huge Ukrainian drone attack which also hit a military airfield, Ukraine’s drone forces said.

The Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine said they hit a refinery in Ryazan and the Annanefteprodukt oil storage facility in the Voronezh region bordering Ukraine.

Kyiv’s SBU intelligence agency also said its drones had hit Russia's Primorsko-Akhtarsk military airfield, which has been used to launch waves of long-range drones at targets in Ukraine.

Ukrainian drone attacks sparked a massive oil depot fire near Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi, Russian authorities have said.

How far into Russia are those places?

The reason is to be understood, but it'd a shame Ukraine doesn't have the resources to regularly strike all the strategic targets inside their range.  Like once they got the oil flowing again, hit it again.  Rinse.  Repeat.

Wonder how much he charged for giving the Russians their precise locations and the equipment to track them?

Russian firefighters extinguish Sochi oil depot blaze after Ukrainian drone attack, authorities say -

Reuters Link

Spoiler

Aug 3 (Reuters) - A Ukrainian drone attack caused two oil tanks to catch fire at an oil depot in Sochi in southern Russia but the blazes were later extinguished, local authorities said on Sunday.

Veniamin Kondratyev, the governor of the surrounding Krasnodar region, said more than 120 firefighters were deployed.

The Russian defence ministry said its air defence units destroyed 93 Ukrainian drones overnight, including one over the Krasnodar region and 60 over the waters of the Black Sea.

The ministry reports only how many drones its units destroy, not how many Ukraine launched.

Rosaviatsia, Russia's civil aviation authority, briefly halted flights at Sochi's airport before resuming them.

There was no immediate comment from Ukraine, which has staged frequent attacks on infrastructure inside Russia that Kyiv deems key to Moscow's war efforts.

A woman was killed in the Adler district of Sochi in a Ukrainian drone attack late last month, but attacks on the city, which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, have been infrequent in the war that Russia launched in February 2022.

The Krasnodar region is home to the Ilsky refinery near the city of Krasnodar, among the largest in southern Russia and a frequent target of Ukraine's drone attacks.

Also on Sunday, the governor of Voronezh region in southern Russia said four people were injured in a Ukrainian drone strike that caused several fires, while Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv, according to the military administration of the Ukrainian capital.

The Russian defence ministry said that its units destroyed 18 Ukrainian drones over the Voronezh region that borders Ukraine.

Some take aways for me in this article.

-Based on available reporting you have to fully commend Ukrainian war efforts on the lack of non-military casualties and even injuries

-Russia is doing their best to stifle internal concern about the scale and success of these attacks by not publishing total drone numbers

-I'm confident air traffic issues continues to build Oligarchs and public frustration

-Military has to be embarrassed by these and thats terrible for morale and undermines authority. Not an acceptable reality with Russian military leadership.
