They've lost 11 generals - we lost 18 to enemy fire in WW2, which was a little bigger than this.

Russia remains open to dialogue. Russia remains open to resolving all problems peacefully, through political and diplomatic means.

Russia does not pose a threat to Europe, to European countries, or to NATO. To claim otherwise is absurd, and it is nothing other than a deliberate escalation of the situation, including as a way to cover up a large number of domestic problems at home.

This is what impunity looks like: war criminal Putin openly mocks drones in Europe, calls Europeans' concerns "panic," and compares UAVs to UFOs, reports Bild.

What's more, when asked during a speech in Sochi whether he had launched drones into Denmark, he laughed, waved his hand dismissively and replied: "Okay, okay, I won't do it again. Not to France, not to Denmark. Where else do they fly? To Lisbon." To which the host advised him not to joke like that, saying that Europe has a poor sense of humor.

One upshot of all these refineries burning is it'll be a warm place for Russians to gather this winter.  They can even cook their soup there.

keep in mind, thats 11 confirmed generals that Russia (or sources in Russia) admits were killed by Ukr

In the first 5 months Ukraine claimed 7-8 Generals, gave names,  2 or 3 are on the list today, but several had to be removed because They havent found confirmation -or in the case of the "retired" major general who was a pilot shot down in the 4th or 5th month he didnt count because Russia claimed he stole the plane and took off on his own.

however, I remember someone did some research and almost every single one of the named generals who Ukraine claimed they killed hasnt been seen, shown in correspondence or listed as reassigned since they were named.

1 or 2 may have been reported later as falling out of a window and thuse not "killed" by Ukraine.

Where are the computer servers that run the Russian banking system located?   Are they dumb enough to make those accessible to flamingos and Tomahawks? They have to be somewhere near Moscow…

So one of my older relatives, who has parroted Fox News/Russian talking points in the past, sent me a video this morning that "I need to see" about what's happening in Ukraine and Russia and that it will "catch me up on what's really happening" and that I need to subscribe to this guy and I'm all like

Here We Go Epix GIF by PENNYWORTH

And the name of the youtuber was "Jake Broe" so I immediately did think "oh fuck, here we go" because I figured it was some young dude that might be parroting Russian talking points, but nope.

We've had arguments discussions before, and ironically the guy literally drove M113s in Vietnam - it was only a couple of years out of his life back in the 1960s, but in his den he has several 8x10s of him and his buddies in the Army in Vietnam and with his M113, and he's got a large painting/print of an M113 in the jungle on his wall. He has admitted he's pleased that the M113s have a second lease on life, and I've gotten through to him on that.

Anyways, surprisingly, the video was not terrible. I can't stand the cadence/pacing/whatever, but this video is only about 12 hours old and has 300,000+ views, and that's good.  I don't know that I would listen to him again because I did not learn anything new, but I'm pleased my relative was following the guy, and I would recommend it to more boomer uncles (and dads).

I can’t believe you hadn’t heard of Jake. Dude has organized a few million-dollar fundraisers that go directly to Ukraine. You get used to his strange voice. At least he doesn’t sound like Patrick Mahomes. He allows you to stop following this on twitter (or wherever) and catch up in 30 minute listens a few times a week.

The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces struck the missile ship Grad of Project 21631 Buyan-M on Lake Onega (Republic of Karelia, Russia). The missile carrier was en route from the Baltic Sea to the Caspian Sea.

The strike hit the starboard side of the ship’s engine compartment. Additional details are being clarified.

The damaged Grad is one of Russia’s newest and most modern ships, commissioned into the Baltic Fleet on December 29, 2022. Its main armament is the Kalibr-NK missile system.

How the war has changed. The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces strike a missile carrier in Karelia! And no one is really surprised anymore. Because over these years, there have been so many remarkable events, so many feats achieved by Ukrainians, that for many, such news now seems almost ordinary.

We ourselves have stopped fully realizing just how incredible Ukraine’s achievements are. And there will be even more to come. Source: Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Special Operations Forces/Facebook

Hero of Ukraine Vladyslav Stotskyi - Senior Lieutenant of the National Guard, platoon commander of the “Svoboda” battalion of the 4th “Rubizh” brigade - speaks about life on the frontline today:

“You sit in a burrow underground, camouflaged, you can’t go out into the fresh air. Natural needs - in plastic bottles or bags, no hygiene. You sleep in blankets or sleeping bags next to your brothers-in-arms to keep warm. During the day it’s hot, at night it’s cold.

Nearby there may be dead occupiers lying around - the smell is constant.”

“When we were encircled for almost 70 days, we did everything we could: set up communications, ran wires, put up antennas, searched for food. We picked up things from Russian backpacks when they came close - took canned food, water, cigarettes. We didn’t throw away our weapons, we didn’t surrender.”

“Right now, about 90% of enemy manpower losses are caused by drones, the rest - artillery, tanks, infantry. That’s why drones are needed more than anything else. And we don’t have enough UAVs.”

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić: Everyone is preparing for conflicts. To be completely honest, everyone is getting ready for war.

The only question is which side someone belongs to. And we would like to avoid wars. We would like to avoid conflicts. B

A Russian drone strike on a railway station in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Sumy wounded at least 30 people, President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday. Russia's army has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's railway infrastructure since invading in February 2022. Zelensky called the strike on Shostka station in Sumy "savage". "So far, we know of at least 30 victims" including passengers and railway staff, he said. He posted a video showing a mangled train carriage engulfed in flames with twisted metal and busted windows.

Populist billionaire Andrej Babiš’s triumph in the Czech parliamentary elections is expected to reduce the EU member country’s support for Ukraine. Babiš has said he would review a Czech-led international drive to supply artillery shells to Ukraine, launched by the previous government, and “discuss it with President Zelenskyy” if necessary. “We are clearly pro-European and pro-Nato,” he added to dispel fears he might draw the Czech Republic closer to EU mavericks Hungary and Slovakia, refusing military aid to Ukraine and opposing sanctions on Russia.

Frankly, if the relative you thought was a problem is pointing you to Broe, you’re the problem. You’re doing a piss poor job finding common ground and conveying your message. It would be like you and I arguing about the US supporting Ukraine. Which, apparently, we’ve started supplying satellite intel for air defense locations to help Ukraine hit vulnerable refineries and depots.

How many minds do you think you have changed since posting on surly? I’m pretty confident that the number of opinions that I’ve changed is zero.

That would be it. Most people parrot the talking points of their party. Very few people are truly independent thinkers. And the people who are independent thinkers most often get trashed by both sides.

At least five people were killed as Russia launched air strikes in western Ukraine early Sunday, raining missiles and drones on the Lviv region near the Polish border — forcing the NATO country to scramble jets to lock down its skies.

Lviv — only 43 miles from Poland — was pounded for hours overnight by missiles and Russian drones as air defenses fired furiously in all directions to fend off the attack, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said five people died and at least 10 others were injured in the attack. He estimated that Russia launched more than 50 missiles and 500 drones.

“Today, the Russians once again targeted our infrastructure – everything that ensures normal life for our people,” Zelensky said. “We need more protection and faster implementation of all defense agreements, especially on air defense, to deprive this aerial terror of any meaning.

“A unilateral ceasefire in the skies is possible – and it is precisely that which could open the way to real diplomacy. America and Europe must act to make Putin stop,” Zelensky said.

A witness told The Post the latest strike is “definitely the worst hit in Lviv since the beginning of the war.”

For a long time I was a fan of them hammering Moscow in some spectacular attack aimed at the Kremlin.

I recognize now that it would play into Putin’s hands of Ukraine being this scary threat to their existence and would get many Muscovites behind him.

Instead, a steady strangulation of the oil and gas infrastructure builds the pressure up on the large cities and all citizens, and when it happens over weeks and months it makes Putin look incompetent, impotent, and over his head.

Belgorod has over 300,000 people.  Would be interesting if this is a run-up to either taking out power for more cities around Russia, or practice runs for some of the largest cities.

It could be that they want to make things difficult in Belgorod because it's close and is probably a major hub for pushing supplies and troops into Ukraine.

At this point, I doubt they hit that fuel depot in Crimea for shits and giggles - they're probably going to hit the pipelines/pumping stations that push fuel to Crimea sometime soon (and perhaps they already have in the previous weeks), or if they can damage enough of the storage depots, it makes it harder to distribute.

Police fire water cannon at Georgia protesters near presidential palace

Opposition protests turned violent as riot police deployed tear gas and water cannon near the presidential palace.

By News Agencies
Published On 4 Oct 20254 Oct 2025

Georgian riot police have deployed water cannon, pepper spray and tear gas to disperse protesters who tried to storm the presidential palace in Tbilisi during municipal elections.

The clashes took place on Saturday after opposition groups, who had boycotted the vote, called for a “peaceful revolution” against the governing Georgian Dream (GD) party, accusing it of authoritarianism and adopting pro-Russia policies.

Thousands of people gathered in Freedom Square and Rustaveli Avenue waving Georgian and EU flags in what organisers said was a show of defiance against GD. Some later barricaded nearby streets, lit fires and clashed with riot police.

In the evening, a group of demonstrators moved towards the palace and attempted to break through the fence, according to witnesses.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs later declared the rally unlawful, saying it had “exceeded the norms set by law.” Police then pushed protesters back with force.

Georgia’s health ministry, quoted by local media, said 21 security personnel and six protesters were injured in confrontations.

“Today is the outcome of a deep crisis which is absolutely formed by our pro-Russian and authoritarian government,” protester Davit Mzhavanadze told local media, according to a report carried by Reuters. “I think this protest will continue until these demands will be responded to properly from our government.”

The governing GD, which announced it had won control in every municipality across the country of 3.7 million, rejected accusations of vote-rigging. The party, founded by billionaire and former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, denies being pro-Moscow. It says it seeks EU membership while maintaining stability with Russia.

Georgia, once seen as one of the most pro-Western states to emerge after the Soviet Union’s collapse, has seen its ties with Europe and the United States deteriorate since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The government froze accession talks with the European Union following last year’s disputed parliamentary election, sparking months of demonstrations.

Saturday’s confrontation was the most serious flare-up in months after earlier protests had lost momentum. Authorities had warned in advance that they would respond firmly to any attempt at what they described as a push for “revolution”.

Been awhile since there's been enough good news for a pos rep dump.  So here goes...

Horses are low-maintenance in some ways, but either they are out of vehicles (including commandeered civilian cars) or the drones really are that affect at easily picking up vehicles (I'm leaning towards this).  If the vast majority of front-line deaths are from drones and not from artillery and small arms fire, it favors Ukraine - they have shorter internal lines (comms, command & control, etc.), and they are on defense - you need 3-5 to 1 to take a defended position, and drones have to make that even more difficult since they pick up movement from far away. Not to mention that we've seen Ukrainian and Russian accounts of the Russians having to keep their guys spread out and doing their assaults with groups of two soldiers so that everybody is spread out and not as vulnerable to drones, and they don't have the numbers they did.

If tonight's drone attacks on Russian forces include more attacks on Crimean-based oil & gas infrastructure, that is going to get the internet generals buzzing. That was a large facility and airfield they hit yesterday.

Are they going to do something towards Belgorod and they are shutting the region down?  Or just low-hanging fruit/practice for larger cities? Zelenskyy says it’s part of a pressure campaign.

The Russians do not understand the cost of all these blackouts, of all the hardships that the people of Ukraine experience and endure during this war. And this is not even a question of their morality, which they lack, but of their physical perception. Ukraine does not kill civilians. But they must understand the price of this.

Ukraine strikes back, hitting military targets and energy facilities that sell their energy resources. Russia sells its energy resources and then uses that money exclusively for war. That is why Ukraine is taking absolutely just steps. We would gladly not do this. We would gladly wish there were no war, but the Russians do not want that. For now.

That is why only pressure can stop this war. Pressure that is multidirectional. The pressure from Western countries today is not enough. Nor is there enough unity in applying that pressure. We need more pressure from the United States, more pressure from Europe. As for the Global South – we do not yet even feel their pressure on Russia to make it stop. And the second vector is Russian society itself. They are killing us. They cannot be allowed to feel comfortable. And when they no longer feel comfortable, they will begin to raise questions with their leadership.

Imagine if we invaded Mexico 10 years ago and grabbed Baja California, and then three years ago we did a massive “everything but the kitchen sink” invasion, and after 3 years we had barely gotten a swathe of land between say Big Bend National Park and Nuevo Laredo, and that Mexico had even reclaimed some of that..

Now imagine if in the past few months, Mexico has knocked out even just 20% of our refining capacity. Not 38%-40%, just 20% and they are hitting military facilities and oil refineries in Oklahoma and Colorado and Nevada and Louisiana and even out towards Tennessee.

And we had lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers killed and another million wounded

Kudo's to this guy for trying to keep track of all this. Most of the first hand information is suspect, and trying to compile it and process the information and boil it down into something useful is difficult at best. Even then, that summary would probably only get you a C+ or a B-.

The screenshot tells you all you need to know. "Chicks dig the long ball big fires.

Not unlike the Japanese carriers on fire at Midway, and we know how that turned out.

image.thumb.png.623887b970df9fed31878ae93f07ba6f.png Ukraine's systematic targeting of Russian refining capacity is mind boggling. The refining capacity of the 3rd largest oil producer in the world is on life support, and Russia is now importing refined products for the first time in 20+ years.

Of Russia's 28 largest refineries (over 50,000 bbl/day) , Ukraine has hit 20 of them in 2025, and all but the 3 refineries in far eastern Russia have been hit since 2022/  The recent strikes targeted the specific refining towers that are the most critical pieces of equipment, and it appears they have destroyed those targets, in a way that those units would not be repaired or replaced for at least a year, if not longer.

The blast from the initial explosion, and the resulting fire and heat would melt most of the wiring and cables, and the measurement, instrumentation and control equipment necessary to operate the facility. They probably couldn't get replacement parts, and don't have the money for the newer and better equipment, if anybody would sell it to them (they would). Replacing the Chevron's refinery in California would probably take 2+ years, without the impacts from sanctions on critical equipment. There are multiple layers of skilled labor required for the many tasks required, and most of the Russian skilled labor Russia had are probably dead, or gone.

My summary below. Everything in red damaged in the last 3 years, the green damaged in 2025. The yellow are the 3 undamaged refineries. The 4th undamaged refinery (Orsk) just got hit this week.

Crazy that 3 of the top 4 refineries have been hit multiple times - where air defense at?
