Putin going to threaten London with a nuclear cleansing for the ....*checks notes*....10 time in 2 years.

The United Kingdom is preparing to raid and seize Russian dark fleet oil tankers, per the BBC.

The British government has identified a legal mechanism for the seizures, and “there are plans for the armed forces to use these powers.”

The west constantly ramping up sanctions and means of combating Russia’s illegal avoidance of sanctions through the shadow fleet certainly is a problem for Putin.

But on one hand, the message might not be for Putin, but for anyone in the country who has seen how much damage Putin has done to Russia’s future, and how much more damage Putin will do to Russia in 2026. I don’t think the military and the oligarchs want some kind of nuclear war resolution to increasing western pressure. If that remains Putin’s only choice, that is scary as hell, but probably increases the chance that Putin will be overthrown.

My bold 2026 prediction is that China will make a move on disputed territory in the east, leaving Putin with no allies to assist him and continuing the war. Putin’s only response, given the paper tiger military they possessed now, will be to stop selling gas and oil to China. Which will crater the economy and the ability to engage in war with anybody.

OTOH, China would be smart to wait until Putin is overthrown and there is a power vacuum to start its reclamation of Chinese territory in the northeast. I think China’s long-term interests are better served by seizing Russian land than by aiding Russia in its war now that Russia’s military has been degraded to such a great extent.

I think it is inevitable. But timing is everything. Kadrov should be close to croaking. When that happens, all the tribes that hate his family and Russia could decide to go separatist again. If Moscow was terrified of Prigozhin’s march, they should shit bricks worrying about Chechnya. Trouble in Chechnya would be a fantastic time for China to act. I can’t imagine that Putin could survive. either of those two events, let alone two.

#92905

Is China too dependent on Russian trade to make a move like that? I agree that some kinda "acquisition" of Russian territory is likely, but maybe not yet?

#92906

I know nothing about anything, I’m just throwing my ignorant thought nuggets out to the board. But I do think that Chechnya and China both see that Russia’s military and economy are degraded to the point that they can present no serious opposition to either.

Here’s the thing about Russia: being the bully who will not honor any agreements, and who will happily kill civilians to obtain a return of the Russian empire - well - that does not endear you to people. Russia has no supporters beyond the rogue states who get a benefit from Russia. Chechnya obtaining full independence from Russia benefits Chechnya. Right now Russian support only benefits a dying warlord. China can claim Russian territory without the world being outraged. When you threaten to drop nukes on the rest of the world, they will hardly cry when China seizes some of your disputed land. And China can always agree to diminish the size of seized territory in exchange for continued Russian bargain basement petroleum. How else can Russia obtain funds as it tries to continue to exist? I don’t think Russia wants to engage in a nuclear war with the west and China.

So in summary:

Does anybody have an idea if Iran had stopped supplying drones to Russia before this all went down? I think Russia started making their own knock offs, but I have no idea if Iran was still assisting Russia with any weaponry at any number.

Russia is rapidly depleting its stock of prewar vehicles and losing soldiers faster than population growth can replace them, thrusting it closer and closer to military exhaustion.

Ukraine has its own set of problems, but at least it has stronger nationalism and a growing European military-industrial base behind it. As Europe steps up as the primary aid provider for Ukraine, we're entering a new era of proxy wars. We have Europe backing Ukraine and China backing Russia.

This is reshaping global military technology. Europe vis-à-vis Ukraine is now leading drone and counter-drone innovation. China is advancing alongside Russia. And guess who is getting left in the dust...

More than 20% of the vessels of the Russian "shadow fleet" have stopped, — Zelensky

The head of state announced this following the report of the first deputy head of the SVR and added that this indicator was achieved thanks to the coordinated efforts of Ukraine and partners.

Zelensky said that the sanctions pressure on the tanker crews and the entire infrastructure of the Russian "shadow fleet" will continue.

It is expected that all restrictions on Russian maritime exports will reduce enemy revenues by at least $ 30 billion.

The current turbulent context dictates that it might be a logical step by Moldova to join Romania. Automatic EU membership + military capability to take back Transnistria. Win-win. 🇷🇴🇲🇩

Moldova's President Sandu says she would vote to join Romania | Reuters

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has said she would vote in favour of unification with neighbouring European Union and NATO member Romania if a referendum were to take place to help protect its fragile democracy against Russian pressure.

Sandu, whose pro-EU ruling party won a new mandate last September, has repeatedly accused Russia of meddling in Moldova, a former Soviet republic of around 2.4 million with a Romanian-speaking majority and a Russian-speaking minority.

"If we have a referendum, I would vote for the unification with Romania," she said in an interview for the British podcast 'The Rest is Politics', broadcast on Sunday.

"Look at what is happening in the world. It is getting more and more difficult for a small country like Moldova to survive as a democracy, as a sovereign country, and of course to resist Russia."

Around 1.5 million Moldovans hold Romanian citizenship, but recent polls have shown that only around one-third support reunification with Bucharest. Sandu said she recognised most Moldovans do not support her position, adding that EU integration was a "more realistic objective".

Temu Daleks or an attempt at thermal camouflage at night

Video showing Russian militants practicing walking in tents under difficult conditions. It looks simply wonderful - they’ll definitely be invisible. As long as they don't go full Mary Poppins and catch a breeze.

Gotta work better than just driving across fields.

Archival footage from an enemy drone filming a small Russian assault column moving forward. The first UAZ vehicle carried a six-man squad. Five are KIA. Armor followed behind. The second and third squads: fifteen personnel in total, four survived.

Remember the African they strapped an anti-tank mine to?

The Center for Countering Disinformation of Ukraine reports that Russia has publicly admitted for the first time that a "private military company" is involved in its so-called "cultural centers" in African countries, assisting in their opening and security operations.

That damage looks more like a missile strikes than a couple of drones, but I guess it’s hard to tell.

At any of those plants there's going to be a lot of chemicals, and the drones are fairly large, but that does look pretty bad.

Even though they are on a "wartime" footing, it does not seem like the Russians are able to increase their air defenses. Pretty wild that they aren't pouring everything into that.

Maybe they are and they just can't manufacture enough. Or it's all going to protect/replenish the Moscow and St. Pete's areas.

I was surfing YouTube videos last night, and someone talked about this attack and referenced it being a missile attack. That said, they provided no conclusive information that it was missiles, or the type of missiles, etc. if that is a major drone factory, I would imagine that Ukraine wants it flattened, rather than partially damaged and the contents capable of being assembled and sent to Ukraine later.

We may never know

The differenced between what you want and what you get can be quite profound. Like, I want to be a Sofia Vergara/Penelope Cruz sandwich. What I got was my gf and her cute blonde neighbor. But I dealt with it.
