We were getting our dicks knocked into the dirt by Kansas.

Today, we're going to the Sugar Bowl. Looks like we may have back-to-back top-5 recruiting classes.

Texas has a long way to go, but for the first time in forever it looks like we're on our way out of the valley of darkness.

Thanks, Tom.

THIS^^^^^      (Out of reps)

Herman and Del Conte have this program moving in the direction it should be.  After all of the changes in personnel, it seems the two most important hires have been made and the results bear that out.  Recruiting, stadium upgrades, and overall stability in the program has me looking forward to the next season with great anticipation.

Biggest thing is I think we’ve finally established an identity going into the offseason. If we get either CJ or LJH to come back, we’re likely favorites in the Big 12

Why yes, it is refreshing to actually be looking forward to Bowl season.

Is the team projection time line similar to where Clemson was several years ago when Dabo took over?

Not really. It's also pretty pointless to compare two entirely different teams in totally different conferences in different points in time.

Actually yes. They made a bcs bowl, got embarassed, started stacking recruiting classes, and the rest is history.

Plus we’ve yet to become a verb.

Yesterday showed that we still need to upgrade overall team speed and improve in the trenches.  But for the last two seasons, I've enjoyed watching a Longhorn team that plays competitively, physically, and not like a bunch of pussies.

And when SOS after beating Dabo five times in a row up with a dead program like South Carolina. Decides to quit coaching because he knew Dabo sold his soul to become by proxy a SEC recruiting machine. SOS knew full well that the power at South Carolina would never sign off on allowing an arms race. There are still s few SEC teams that actually believe in sports, but not the cut throat cheating many of the power teams of the SEC adhere to. And why those same teams have never, will never compete for a conference championship.

Need to upgrade overall talent as a whole. Was it Del Conte who said you need 3 or 4 straight top 10 classes to build a powerhouse? We're getting there.

Strong had two top 10 recruiting classes, the transition year slipped but Herman will have 2 in a row after this year. 4 out of 5 years of top ten recruiting classes.

But honestly I don’t know that getting top recruiting classes has ever been a real problem for Texas.

It's about addressing needs AND getting top talent. We weren't evaluating well at QB and OL (and certainly weren't developing what we had on the roster). Doing much better on that front.

I like our DL evaluations, but we need to land some more blue-chip talent there, too.

Edit: and we've also had a lot of attrition from Strong's classes.

Yeah however, 2016 was misleading since we lost some players after the coaching change. Take out the transfers and that class is not top 10 anymore.

The 2013 class was just awful. Absolutely terrible. Mack left us a real stinker with his last full signing class. And yes, some potential starters transferred out under Strong.

The 2014 class was not too terrible for a transition class. Two difference-makers (Poona Ford and D'Onta Foreman), some players who developed into decent contributors as upperclassmen, some players who were not Texas-good but ended up playing because the talent level had dipped so low, and some guys who never amounted to anything. The big miss was that our QB take was not really a QB at all.

We'll have the skill positions loaded, plus QB looks good for the future.  We just need to load up on linemen and LB's... especially DL.

So we’re gonna win the conference again in 2024? Is Beck gonna be here until 2030?

Fascinating.  No doubt arrow is pointing up.   Would like to see a few more badasses in the trenches though.

We are no longer completely incompetent in every phase of the game. Which is really nice.

Hoping the rate of improvement continues. Especially with Ehlinger.
