January 3Jan 3 Speaking in certainties about this 4 loss bama team, who scored 3 against OU, loss to Vandy and a completely mediocre Michigan team is not something I'd be interested in doing.

Do you think Indiana could beat OU? If so, there's no reason to think Indiana couldn't beat Bama. Again, the game of hypotheticals will always have their teams be undefeated in the minds of SEC people.

I agree that hypothetical situations are like assholes but I think on a neutral field Bama, Ole Miss and Tennessee would beat IU.

January 8Jan 8 I wonder what it’s like being a member of a toxic fanbase that wants to fire their coach for losing to Michigan.

January 21Jan 21 (Lauren Merola) Kirk Herbstreit emotional on-air after Buckeyes win title: ‘I’m just fired up for these guys’ Quote ESPN announcer Kirk Herbstreit held back tears in the broadcast booth after Ohio State, his alma mater, celebrated its first national title in 10 years with a win over Notre Dame on Monday, stating the OSU players “went to hell and back” to end the season as champions. Appearing on “SportsCenter” alongside longtime booth partner Chris Fowler after the national title bout at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Herbstreit was already emotional when host Scott Van Pelt’s question brought him to tears. “What’s the story of this team?” Van Pelt asked. “Don’t start with me, man. I’m a little emotional,” Herbstreit said. “I’m just fired up for these guys. When I call these games, I’m incredibly objective. I love all of these Ohio State teams, but this team, because of what they went through to get to this point, you’re just happy.” Herbstreit briefly walked off camera to grab a tissue to wipe his eyes with before later continuing on about Ohio State’s College Football Playoff redemption after losing to rival Michigan in its regular-season finale. “We can try and make this sound soft. My thing is, I’ve talked to these players, I’ve talked to these coaches, I know what they faced after that Michigan game,” Herbstreit said. “I know the pain, and I know a lot of people thought, to hell with (coach Ryan Day). And I know what that did — that’s a real life thing. … He just handled it, took the high road, didn’t say anything, went out, got his team ready to play four games (throughout the CFP) and they won it.” The loss to Michigan — OSU’s fourth consecutive defeat in the rivalry — cost the Buckeyes a spot in the Big Ten title game and raised questions about Day’s future. Day came into criticism for his handling of his team during a postgame fight, his 1-4 record versus the program’s biggest rival and the 10-2 regular-season record despite a $20 million investment to build the roster. The No. 8 seed entering the Playoff, Ohio State won all four of its CFP games by double digits against No. 9 Tennessee, No. 1 Oregon, No. 5 Texas and No. 7 Notre Dame. The Buckeyes’ success moved Herbstreit, who isn’t shy about his school ties. A Centerville, Ohio, native, Herbstreit played for Ohio State from 1989 to 1992 and was the starting quarterback and team captain as a senior. His son, Zak, is a tight end on this year’s team and his father, Jim, was also a player and captain at the school. Herbstreit has defended OSU and Day throughout the postseason. He called those doubting Day a part of the “lunatic fringe” on the broadcast of Ohio State’s first-round Playoff victory against Tennessee on Dec. 21. “The lunatic fringe at Ohio State is as powerful as anywhere in the country,” Herbstreit said then. “I’m sure they’ll be happy tonight, be fired up about what the Ohio State team did, but God forbid they lose to Oregon. They may want to fire (Day) again.” Herbstreit has called every championship game with Fowler since the CFP era began in 2014. Herbstreit joined ESPN in 1995 as a college football sideline analyst and started on “College GameDay” a year later.

January 21Jan 21 Him calling every osu game on ESPN is a beating for non osu fans. What's funny is knowing osu fans, they think he hates them. The guy will literally promote 3 osu players for a Heisman, then tell a heartwarming story about an osu coach hepling a down and out 5 star player. It's a slob fest all game. Our last game, i switched over to Craig Ways call.
January 21Jan 21 Good grief, what a sanctimonious wanker. They went "to hell and back?" Really? And by the way, any "hell" they went through was provided purely by their own dipshit fans. No choice words for your own trash fanbase, huh Herbs?
January 21Jan 21 Seriously what "hell" did they go through? So they lost to their biggest rival. Big fuckin' whoop. As objective as he claims to be, he can't recognize the FACT that this team did not go through anything remotely resembling significant challenges.

They got smacked by Michigan at home in what wouldve normally been a disqualifying loss for the playoffs and instead they got rewarded with an extra week of rest and home playoff game. That's some real hell Kirk.
January 21Jan 21 They went through the hell of having to suffer through Kirk and Ryan Day again. But we all went through that hell.

Hell, he took them to 2 Sugar Bowls and a Rose Bowl. I'd kill for that to be Texas' worst downturn. Edited January 22Jan 22 by DigglerontheHoof

January 23Jan 23 Herbie’s son is on the team right? You know they’re going to give a ring to dad, and he’s going to wear it on every Game Day. That cocksucker likes wearing jewelry more than a Kardashian. What an insufferable fanbase. 10 years between championships, and countless losses to Michigan and CFP games doesn’t seem like punishment enough. I’m still angry we scheduled them again. Shitty Texas fan experience in the Shoe and then we get to chase that with tens of thousands of Rust Belt couch burners descending on Austin.

January 23Jan 23 It’s definitely not unethical but it feels smarmy, especially when they do shit like not let him pick the games he’s announcing on game day. They purport themselves as unbiased journalists but it’s clearly far from the case. I don’t think it’s a big deal if they just owned it. I’ve thought for years that they should have a play by play guy and then a die hard but extremely knowledgeable fan from each team in the booth. I think it would add so much passion to the game while also having the potential for ridiculous amounts of humor and schadenfreude.

January 23Jan 23 Yup, it's not journalism, it's entertainment. If the "entertainment" is annoying enough and people stop tuning in, they'll be forced to make a change. Until then, you'll get ol' Cesspool calling Ohio State games, and you'll like it.
