Still good but at some point after their popularity exploded they started putting fuck tons of seasoned salt on the crispy tortilla strips. Shit tastes like Dorito’s cool ranch.

Negged.

I'm pretty sure we're only supposed to discuss tacos on the aggy thread or UTSA gameweek thread.

Texaco on Cypress Creek in Cedar Park has a little restaurant inside that does tacos, burgers and shawarma.

Grab and go tacos are legit for $2. They provide fresh made salsa, fresh pico, grilled japs, and pickled vegetables on the side for dressing. Damn good deal.

I’m going to have to mention Con Todo, the taco trailer at the Celis Beer Garden, because their tacos are legit.

Be careful with the red salsa though. They tell you it’s hot, and they are underselling the heat. The flavor is great but the spice is an 11. I’m sure Celis is happy though, I always have to go through at least 2 pints in 10 minutes when I get the red salsa.

I’ve heard Quantos Tacos in the food truck park off 12th street slams and goes hard from many people.  Definitely on my short list to try soon.  You can get 6 different street tacos for $15.

FYI, Ensenada is parked in the same lot as Cuantos. That's one of the city's elite taco bang-bang opportunities. Highly recommended.

Recently did this Cuantos-Ensenada combo with 2 carnitas and 2 fish tacos. Glorious.

Bumping because this place is fantastic!  The lady who runs it is super nice.

By the way, whoever posted that picture of the taco at Don's.  I've also heard Don's BBQ is bad "old people" BBQ but that makes me question things...

Bill Miller's is bad old people bbq, but their fried chicken and breakfast taco game is pretty fucking on point. Same could be true of Donn's

Don's makes passable BBQ. They make very good breakfast tacos, guisada, migas etc. Mexican breakfast.

Also pretty good burgers and a good chopped beef sandwich.

It's cheap, too.

I've heard that about Bill Miller's fried chicken.

Sorry - that one is "The Ugly". "The Bad" is also good - bacon, potato, candied japs, egg, cheese. And their green sauce will light your ass up.

Your post inspired me to stop on my way to HEB…because you shouldn’t shop hungry. A Bad and a Migas:

I did a taco run today after finishing the Taco Mafia series on PBS.

Started Mexico City style street tacos from Cuantos Tacos - a cachte taco and a carnitas taco.  Small tacos but amazing flavor.  I probably would have eaten four tacos of it were my only stop.

Next to Discada.  They were closed.   I learned later that the open at Noon.

Finally a stop at Nixta Taqueria.  Had to try the duck carnitas taco and wasn't disappointed.  Flavor was amazing.

On the way out, I grabbed some baked goods from the pandulceria that shares a kitchen with Nixta.  Interesting corn based sugar cookie, some odd chocolate chip cookie, and some corn based on cake.

As a gringo, I've traditionally preferred flour over corn tortillas.  Nixtamal tortillas make a huge difference, though.

I'd recommend both Cuantos and Nixta.   Looking forward to trying Discada next time.

For the price - the best place in Austin that I've found. It's one fucking guy that runs it in a corner store parking lot. The campechano con todo (onions, cilantro, cheese) on flour (I know, I know - just trust me) will change your fucking life.

3 of these for $10.

Go see my man Beto. He doesn't fuck around.

Also - the Hula Hu right there is probably my favorite corner store in Austin. Really cool Nepalese guys that run it - they have a great beer selection and decent prices across the board.
