Glad this got bumped...I couldn't find my mom's rice recipe, and there it is a few posts up.

Your unselfishness paid you back.

Making some French Onion soup (onions almost about ready) along with a homemade Cesar salad for tonight.

Christmas morning, honey pecan French toast. Then prime rib, creamed spinach, au gratin hassle back potatoes, and honey roasted carrots.

Eat well, Hook Em' and Merry Ch!

Prime rib is smoking.  Adding huge baked potatoes with crispy skin. Probably a green thing from DiLs freezer.  Cranberry orange jalapeño sauce but DiL didn’t make dressing.  Her mother will bring a variety of mediocre bland midwestern food; I eat little of it.  I’ll just eat a shitton of beef and a tater for the most part.  I miscalculated:  6 adults, 14lb roast.

Tomorrow’s feast:

Brisket
Chicken n Dumplins

Tamale dressing
Green beans
Cream corn
Mashed taters

Cherry jello salas
Orange cream jello salad
Fried Apples

Pecan pie
Cream pie
Black forest cake

Assorted cookies n stuff

Pregame with sausage/cheese tray, and shrimp cocktail

On my own this year and thought I’d fore go the Swanson’s Hungry Man Dinner and try a small Rib Roast… went cheap and easy for side & dessert.

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, everyone.

Christmas Eve - homemade tamales, rice, charro beans, jalapeno poppers, queso & guacamole.

Christmas - prime rib with horseradish sauce, smoked turkey, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, green beans, yeast rolls, cranberry sauce.

Kids are having Christmas in Germany with adopted family this year. Christmas Eve dinner:

1ccd2804e8b14d11643c7a815226f768.jpg

“Our menu: salad, red cabbage, gulasch, semmelknödel, Spätzle and Tiramisu.”

I love rotkhol (the red cabbage), and the semmelknodle sounds really good too.

Did most of the food last night on the smoker. A five-pound prime rib, a bunch of salmon and roasted cauliflower & broccoli. Did some cheesy potatoes in the oven and then Chinese cucumbers and a nice loaf of bread.

It was good. Today we go to sample other folk’s cooking.

We did panettone french toast this morning.

Christmas morning is for Christmas waffles. Only day of the year I make them.

Last night was the main feast. Did a leg of lamb with au poirve sauce. Roasted fennel bulb, Brussels with bacon and shallot and a balsamic glaze, and some garlic rosemary mashed potatoes.

I usually just use a regular Tuscan style loaf. Or a nice baguette. My mix is simple, eggs, some half & half, a touch of brown sugar and a splash of pure vanilla extract. And of course, pure maple syrup.

Me too. My fav “special day” breakfast.  Alton Brown’s recipe (with vanilla and fresh ground nutmeg & cinnamon) always delivers.

Oh, and I forgot, cooked with some real butter in the pan. I like cinnamon but, it just has to be a hint, not too much.

The only thing I have really used nutmeg on is when we make Flammkuchen, an Alsatian/German-type of pizza. In fact, I'm thinking of getting one of those Breeo outdoor fire pits with the pizza oven attachment just to make more of them, and regular pizza, of course.

Our kids have informed us that one night next week in Germany, we’re going to an all-you-can-eat flammkuchen deal. Seems cool, we dig flammkuchen. Where does the nutmeg figure in?

Made our traditional gingerbread pancakes for everyone. Bought so much mix that we'll have gingerbread waffles tomorrow. Honestly, I hate making pancakes because they always are weird for a few turns and then get good. Waffles are a lot more consistent. We also made peppermint bark. Debating making some eggnog from scratch.

Salet, ham, au gratin potatoes and squash, ham. Did I make a sandwich with homemade rye bread? Why yes, I did.
