November 21, 20214 yr LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Las Vegas police said a man tried to skip out on a $4,000 restaurant bill then made a bomb threat at the Bellagio last week. According to the arrest report for Gregg Cohen, officers were called to the Las Vegas Strip property about 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. When officers arrived, casino security told them Cohen had been eating and drinking in Spago, a restaurant in the casino, and had a bill of $4,312.75. He reportedly got up and left, saying he was using the restroom. According to the restaurant's manager, Cohen had ordered seafood and a bottle of Dom Perignon, then socialized with women nearby and bought them champagne. The manager then said he saw Cohen at a table game. Cohen was asked to return to the restaurant to pay the bill. The report says Cohen then stated he had $10,000 to pay, but then emptied his pockets and had no money. He was then taken into security custody. While waiting for police to arrive, security said Cohen said, "I bet if there was a bomb, they'd get here really fast." When asked directly if he placed a bomb in the casino, Cohen reportedly said, "There is a bomb," then repeated the word "bomb" multiple times. Court records show Cohen is charged with communicating a bomb threat, theft and defrauding a proprietor. He's expected back in court on Dec. 1.

December 1, 20214 yr Soon, Surly may well be a vital natural resource. Chinese scientists make eco-friendly plastic from salmon sperm Quote A new eco-friendly plastic made from salmon sperm has been invented by scientists in China. Two short strands of DNA from the sperm were combined with a chemical from vegetable oil that binds them together. What this creates is a squishy material known as hydrogel. From here the gel is then moulded into different shapes and freeze-dried to remove the moisture, which makes it solidify. Researchers have already created a cup, puzzle pieces and a DNA molecule from the eco-friendly plastic. Though the team of Chinese scientists created their raw materials from salmon sperm, DNA carries the genetic code for every living thing on Earth. A study from 2015 estimates that there are around 50 billion tonnes of DNA on the planet. That means we could technically make the plastic out of other sustainable sources such as waste material from crops, algae or bacteria. Is this plastic better than other alternatives? Plastic is a big problem for the environment as it is made from petrochemicals that require a lot of heat and toxic substances to manufacture. It also takes centuries to break down and very little is recycled - with most ending up incinerated or sent to landfill. For that reason, a lot of research has been done to find alternatives which are less damaging to our natural environment. Biodegradable plastics have already been created using materials like cornstarch and algae, but they require a lot of energy to make and can be difficult to recycle. Dayong Yang and his team at Tianjin University wanted to create a material that solved these problems. The creation of DNA-based plastic produces 97 per cent fewer carbon emissions than polystyrene plastics, they say. Dipping items created from the material into water turns them back into a gel that can be reformed into new objects meaning it is easy to recycle too. The plastic can be broken down by DNA digesting enzymes if it is no longer needed. But the new material does have some limitations. The fact that it can be recycled using water alone means that it would need to be kept dry. While waterproof coatings could be added, this would make it more difficult to recycle. It could, however, be used for items like electronics that need to be kept dry anyway and some forms of packaging, the researchers believe.

December 4, 20214 yr Maryland homeowners burned down their home while attempting to rid the house of snakes A house of nearly 10,000 square feet in Dickerson, Maryland, an hour west of Baltimore, was engulfed in flames on November 23 when the homeowner tried to smoke out a snake infestation on the property, Pete Piringer, chief spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, told CNN. Piringer said snakes had been an ongoing issue for this owner and the previous tenant as well. Coals were used as the heat source for the smoke, but they were placed too close to combustible materials, eventually setting the house on fire, Piringer explained. The fire started in the basement and quickly spread through each floor, engulfing the multistory home, according to CNN affiliate WJLA. Piringer told CNN that the owner was at home a few hours before, but luckily no one was there at the start of the fire. A neighbor passing by saw the smoke and called 911. At around 10 p.m., 75 firefighters showed up at the scene to battle the blaze. "There were no fire hydrants in the area," Piringer said. "Which isn't a problem because we're used to it, but we had to shuttle in water tankers." It took a few hours for firefighters to get the fire under control, but it wasn't completely out until the next morning. The damages will cost more than $1 million, Piringer said. The house was recently purchased for $1.8 million, according to public records. The fire department deemed the incident an accident as there was no evidence, or intention, of starting the fire. Piringer recommends using other ways to battle an infestation. "There are animal services that can come out and make recommendations, or pest control, or an exterminator," Piringer said. "We recommend you have professionals deal with any pest control issue to help maintain the situation." Being that there was no one home at the time, there were no injuries reported. The status of the snakes is unknown, but as the home was left in rubble, it's assumed they no longer live there.

Pretending to be Cory, he sent text messages to the woman saying he needed to be potty trained, needed his 'diapee' changed and required a child's booster seat. The woman looked after a man she believed was Cory on ten occasions. She had changed his soiled diapers, according to court records obtained by The Times-Picayune.
