Seems like Chelsea should have signed Piatek instead of Higuain.

It has been mentioned, but certainly a small body of work thus far. Who knows he could be amazing, but just like Belotti the year we signed Morata and Manure signed Lukaku, he might not pan out the way expected at this point.

Cardiff City's Emiliano Sala onboard missing plane

Saying hopes for survival of those on board are "slim," police have suspended the search for a light aircraft carrying Cardiff City's Emiliano Sala after it disappeared over the English Channel en route to the Welsh capital for the football player to make his club debut.

Both French and British maritime authorities spent the day searching near the island of Guernsey for the plane and will resume their efforts upon sunrise on Wednesday, according to a Guernsey police statement.

"During the course of the 15-hour search, which used multiple air and sea assets from the Channel Islands, UK and France, a number of floating objects have been seen in the water. We have been unable to confirm whether any of these are from the missing aircraft," the statement read...

They went after an attacking Argentine player, but he never made it to the club. Pretty sad for all involved, families of the player, pilot, and any others on board. Just really sad.

Frenkie De Jong 'agrees to join Barcelona as Man City miss out on transfer target'

Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong has agreed to join Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.

Radio Catalunya say the in-demand Dutch midfielder has made his final decision and has informed both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain he intends to head to the Nou Camp.

The Holland international has been wanted by almost all of Europe's top clubs and the big-money trio emerged as the leading contenders for his signature.

But the 21-year-old has decided to become Barcelona's third January signing, alongside Jason Murillo and Kevin-Prince Boateng.

He is set to travel to Spain to formally complete the deal, which could be worth up to £80million, on Wednesday.

It means Pep Guardiola has missed out on one of his top targets, viewed as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

Guardiola has recently admitted they have drawn up a shortlist to replace the ageing Brazilian, but De Jong's move to Spain could force them to cross one name off the list and look elsewhere.

feels like it has been a very quiet winter transfer season in the Premier League.

As far as Southampton.. lots of outs, no ins

Cedric Soares  on loan to Inter Milan

Manalo Gabbiadini sold to Sampdoria.

Steven Davis on loan to Rangers.

Wesley Hoedt on loan to Celta Vigo.

Charlie Austin rumoured to be leaving for to Aston Villa, Wolves, Stoke, Galatasaray.

....Looks like Hasenhuttl is looking to youth and desire and cutting bloated, entitled veterans.

Che Adams (BIrmingham) is a rumored target. Never heard of him, but he has good Championship Numbers.. 14 goals, 3 assists on 25 appearances. (we may lose out to Spurs on this one!)

With both Pulisic and Higuain coming in, Morata leaving and CHO nonsense, we have been one of the few active teams.

I thought he was going to be great. Not sure what went wrong.

Gabbiadini scored for Sampdoria this past weekend. It was the 4th in a 4-0 win but still.

homesick apparently. things were definitely looking rosy at the beginning,  but as Soton fell apart, so did he.

Haven’t heard of Spurs being interested in Adams.

Barring something drastic, it looks like Suarez to Arsenal will be announced in the coming days.

Perisic should be able to get done as well, although not as surefire as Suarez at this point.

[COPE] Denis Suarez will be loaned to Arsenal until the end of the season. Clubs are finalizing last details, including an option to buy. Denis has accepted extending his contract with Barça until

You love you some Denis?

Not Luis.

Read a report this morning that Real Madrid wants to get rid of the following players: Lucas Vazquez, Marcelo, Keylor Navas, Isco, Dani Ceballos, and Jesus Vallejo.

Of those, it hurts to lose Isco and Lucas Vazquez.

- Marcelo is in the tail end of his career and he costs us too many goals, left back gets exposed ordinarily. Madrid has found a perfect LB in Reguilon.

- There isn't space for Navas.

- Jesus Vallejo sucks and is always injured.

-Dani Ceballos, mixed emotions here. I feel like he has a lot of upside but his progression has stalled.

No clue but I am sure age is playing a part.

Fellaini had to know his days were numbered when Mou departed.

I noticed that as well.

When Mou was there, Martial was likely to be sold. Then Mou is jettisoned and Martial signs an extension while Fellaini is jettisoned.

What a difference a manager who knows how to manage talented players makes.

PSG to sign D.C.'s Luciano Acosta as Neymar stand-in - source

r450477_2_1296x729_16-9.jpg&w=1140&cqual

D.C. United's Luciano Acosta is Paris Saint-Germain bound, a source has confirmed to ESPN FC, after coach Thomas Tuchel demanded attacking reinforcement to cover Neymar's absence.

Brazil international Neymar is ruled out for over two months with a second injury to the fifth metatarsal in his right foot in as many years...

[snip]

...The 24-year-old, who started his career with Boca Juniors, was part of the 2018 MLS best XI and struck up a rapport with designated player Wayne Rooney, who helped to spark a turnaround in fortunes for Ben Olsen's men after his midseason arrival.

Despite concerns over his diminutive build* with Ligue 1 a competition known for its physicality, the source indicated that Tuchel and his staff have given their blessing to the move for the Argentine, which is a cost-effective way of filling the gap created by Neymar's recent injury as efforts continue to land another defensive midfielder.

*Wiki lists him at 5'3", which means that he's probably smaller than that. But, because he's shown that he can handle the physicality of the MLS and excel, he's off to Europe.

I don't mind the MLS being a testing league for diminutive skill players from Latin America. It should allow for improved play and opportunities to turn profits on smaller players looking to prove themselves.

Reports: Luciano Acosta to PSG deal falls through

usatsi_11073627.jpg?w=2000&h=1200&crop=1

Luciano Acosta won’t be the latest player to leave Major League Soccer for a big-name club in Europe.

Acosta, who was in Paris with D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper on Thursday in hopes of sealing a deal to Paris Saint-Germain, will be staying in MLS, according to reports from the Washington Post and The Athletic.

The Black and Red reportedly expected a bid around $10 million and they were also reported to want somewhere between $13 and $15 million for the Argentinian midfielder, who recorded 10 goals and 17 assists in 2018.

PSG reportedly offered a bid of $7 million that moved up to $8 million, while another report mentioned a bid of around $9.1 million.

No matter what the official price of the bid was, the two sides were unable to get a deal done before the European transfer window shut on Thursday night.

Acosta will now return to D.C. United’s preseason camp in Florida in preparation for the 2019 MLS campaign, which begins on March 3 against Atlanta United for Ben Olsen’s side.
