Let’s get this one started.  Except I am mobile and need to figure out how to embed video.

Been listening to a ton of Converge and Whores for the past 6 months. Just seem to scratch that itch.

  • I don't know when this came out, it must have been recently, it's my daughter's band, she's the drummer (and sometimes she's on guitar/vocals).  They mine that realm of 90's grunge-punk like Hole, Nir

Some angry death metal with a bit of groove out of a young band from Denmark. This is going in the gym rotation. Debut album out today.

RIGHT ... So...

As I was saying, it appears that Judas Priest has a new album this month. And it's really, really good. Halford still hitting the high notes like he was a third of his current actual age.

Blows my mind. The guy's old enough to be a grandfather. But kicking serious ass.

Who remembers Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage? He has a new project, sounds good.

I'm one of those KSE fans who really liked Howard. Glad he's back at it.

I thought he knocked up a porn star. For real. Then again I don’t know why that would make him quit the band.

To be a responsible parent? 😐

I'm not gonna lie.  I kinda miss As I Lay Dying.  Why'd that asshole have to hire a hitman?

Damn, Caleb Scofield died in a car accident (Cave In/Old Man Gloom basist). He was only 38.

I'm interested to see how this turns out, it's the first I've heard of this and I'm a big Devildriver fan.

I'm not a fan of Devildriver or softer rock/metal, but that does seem very interesting.

Hot take:

Rust in Peace is better than any single album Metallica ever made.

I guess you didn't know that they had four albums before the Black album.

I don't know which is funnier; that you think I didn't know, or that you think any of them are as good.

Horrible, this take is.

I mean, Master of Puppets comes close, and the title track is possibly by itself better than any single track off Rust. But overall? No. Not better.

RIP is epic and that one two punch of tracks one and two may be better than any two back to back Metallica songs. And Megadeth has continued to put out great music long after Metallica started to suck. But I don’t think I can get on board with that hot take.

Battery and MoP is tough to beat but I can also recognize how great the first two tracks of RIP are. I can't argue that Megadeth has continued to put out quality stuff (particularly The System Has Failed and United Abominations) but they also made some clunkers.
'tallica vs. 'deth is a tough question. Megadeth has been more prolific for sure and when you consider things like Lulu and St. Anger it is easy to shrug Metallica off. But nothing can erase the impressions Puppets and Justice made on my adolescence.

No problem with any of that. And Metallica has continued to bring it live for decades.

Saw Sleep @ The Waiting Room in Omaha on Saturday night.

Set list;

1.Dopesmoker

2. Holy Mountain

3. The Clarity

4. Dragonaout

5. From Beyond

6. Cultivator/Improved Morris

Was fucking fantastic.  Before they take the stage they start with like 15 minutes of radio chatter from the Apollo 11 mission culminating with "the eagle has landed" and then Matt Pike started in on Dopesmoker.  So good...

That sounds bad ass. Too bad they aren’t coming through Houston (or maybe I missed it). Looks like Melvin’s will be here in May.

The Whores show was awesome. Turned me onto this band from KC called Bummer. Really digging their stuff. Kind of remind me of KARP.

I took a few photos that I posted in the photography thread in “hobbies”.

I'll have to Keep Bummer on my radar. I'm sure they'll be in Omaha if their home base is KC.

Yeah, Melvins are coming through here too.

Holy shit...just finding out about this band out of Seattle called Helms Alee. Wow, I am really digging their stuff. And since I am late to the game, there is a lot to listen to. Unfortunately, I can’t find a few of my favorite tracks on YouTube to post, but their bandcamp has them all. I suggest tracks 8 and 11 off their latest “Stillicide”.

Here is one from another album:

So that's the new lead singer huh? Looks like Thriller meets Singin' In The Rain. I dig the song.

Well, yeah, it's still Tobias Forge, but the new character is "Cardinal Copia"

New Ghost is fucking badass and so is the video and they are the most important band in the world now, having taken the mantle from Mastodon right after they put out Crack the Skye.

Word my brother.

Saw some Incantation-inspired death metal last week. I highly recommend a band called Spectral Voice, from Denver.  They played a 45-minute set of absolutely crushing death with no pauses between songs, and sans lights.  Let's say it was dark, literally and metaphorically.  A local band, Encoffination, opened.  Good stuff all around.

That’s the joke dot gif
I refuse to click on that link for BFMV because those guys look so stupid.

I like some of their stuff. And will see them next weekend at Rockville. But yeah.

What the fuck happened to Godsmack? It's like they're not even trying any longer. I don't know what their aim is to become the next Nickelback or what? Change isn't always a necessarily a bad thing and I enjoyed Sully's Avalon solo project but this is crud.

Godsmack has always, always been shit.

This. They are to metal what bro country is to country music. Just awful. Sorry.
I'm pretty sure I haven't thought about that band in like 20 years.

I don’t have a problem with you digging them and going to see them. I might make a dumb joke, but people should like what they like.
