January 24, 20232 yr yeah, if we start counting local bands, well I lived next to the backroom for a year and saw Pariah a bunch. and Ian Moore used to gig on the reg in deep ellum when i lived in Dallas. I would always end the night there.
January 24, 20232 yr NIN 15 times. local band...have seen the sword well over 50 times dating back to when they used to play thursday nights at the whiskey bar on 4th.
January 29, 20232 yr been getting into these guys a lot lately. bdm outta OKC/Tulsa (yeah, yeah). gonna catch them on 11 Feb. stoked. spoiler for extremely nsfw cover art Spoiler
January 30, 20232 yr You do you man. *crosses Longhorn_fan68 off thanksgiving invite list Edited January 30, 20232 yr by Biff Tannen
January 30, 20232 yr Love this band the front man is extremely versatile, glad they're gaining more attention.
February 1, 20232 yr Ozzy is officially done touring for good. All scheduled shows cancelled. Was never able to fully recover from his back issues.
February 1, 20232 yr Found this on last Friday's weekly recap of new metal albums on MetalInjection. Some interesting, prog-y, technical stuff.
February 3, 20232 yr Anyone have the link to the site that does the best metal of the year, tournament style?
February 11, 20232 yr So, help me out. I’m having a hard time finding much good new music. I’m oldish so my sweet spot is The New Wave of British Heavy Metal — Maiden and Priest, in particular — but obviously (older) Metallica and Megadeth. Newer than that stuff like All That Remains, Architects, Bring Me The Horizon, Bullet for My Valentine, etc. I’m fine with poppier/catchier stuff like Ghost and the Avatar song above. Industrial/techo like Rammstein. Do not want screamo/growling vocalists. I listen to SiriusXM Octane in the car (Liquid Metal has too many vocals I don’t like) but it’s rare to come across something new. This isn’t bad: This is old, but one of the coolest riffs from a band with tens of millions of albums sold with cool riffs:
February 11, 20232 yr Have you tried heavier stuff without vocals? There's bands like Pelican and even Rings of Saturn are doing instrumental albums these days
February 11, 20232 yr Author I assume you have listened to The Sword. And in general I think you might be into various doom bands.

February 12, 20232 yr 14 minutes ago, Dark Horse said: They’re not new, but you may want to check out Municipal Waste I like the sound a lot. Reminds me a little of Savatage, but sped up. Not a fan of the vocals, but worth listening to some other of their songs. Thanks. Still going through the other suggestions, as well. Listening to Catastasis by Elder… sounds like Yes meets Godsmack. A lot of new songs to check out.
February 12, 20232 yr Also, shot in the dark, prog black metal band that has pretty understandable fry vocals.
February 20, 20232 yr 13 hours ago, MC Fresh Breath said: Reminds me a lot of earlyish Mercyful Fate with vocals about two octaves lower.

You would probably really like Spirit Adrift, IMO they are the best band out right now releasing new "classic" heavy metal. Great riffs, shreddy solos, clean vocals.
February 20, 20232 yr If anyone is into "blackened" metal, this is pretty solid for a solo project. Reminds me more than a little bit of classic Dissection. Edited February 20, 20232 yr by Storm the Field

Definitely Maiden vibes in the parts with the bass out front and the tempo changes… sounds like something from an old school “Imports” section at a, gasp, record store.
February 21, 20232 yr This is a fun collab between Lamb of God and Health that I recently discovered.

February 25, 20232 yr I’ve listened to pretty much everything Spirit Adrift has on Apple Music. A few songs I really like. The rest feel like deep cuts or B sides… you can tell there’s something there, but they just don’t click for me. I don’t dislike them, not at all. I’ve added songs to my playlists due to the recommendation so I appreciate the hell out of that. Parkway Drive’s last one is, imo, really good. Some of the songs are almost guttural vocals adjacent, but don’t quite get there the way some of their previous stuff did. Edit: But, yes, I completely agree that they have that “classic” approach and that’s worth a lot. Edited February 25, 20232 yr by Doc Daneeka
February 26, 20232 yr Author I want more Spiritworld. But it likely won't be another year until we get some new stuff from them, I am listening to these bands...
February 27, 20232 yr I can't get enough of this song. Shit just slaps. The cymbal tink at :12 cracks me up every fucking time Edited February 27, 20232 yr by Longhorn_Fan68

March 1, 20232 yr lol, crazy germans. label themselves as Brutal Surf Death Metal. They come out on stage in shorts and flip flops. anything to stand out I guess. but their shit also slaps, so there's that
March 1, 20232 yr 8 minutes ago, honolulu horn said: ^^^ Lots to unpack in that video, well done haha, yeah, that's basically a composite of all of the artwork and such from their previous releases mixed with the current one. Sprinkle in a little story and you have a lyric video - very popular among metal bands. Can all be done on computer without cameras so therefore, cheaper. still fun shit, though. hope these guys come to the states. Their shows look like a fucking blast. plus I super like their sound. I bet they sound boss live Edited March 1, 20232 yr by Longhorn_Fan68

March 5, 20232 yr Any Fear Factory fans? They just started touring with the new singer a few days, surprisingly sounds really good.
March 6, 20232 yr Author Been listening to a lot of Enforeced lately and have the new album pre-ordered. My favorite from the last album...

I saw them on the Mechanize tour at HOB in Dallas. Got a guitar pick from Byron Stroud. That lineup was Burton, Dino, Stroud, and Gene Hoglan on drums.
March 6, 20232 yr I saw them in 2005 as part of Giagantour. They were good. But that was the first time I ever saw Dillinger Escape Plan (but not the last) and they were the most memorable band that day for me.

I like the first 1:02 a lot. Just can’t deal with vocals like that. That music with more “traditional” vocals — Dickinson, Tate, Bon Scott, (early) Brian Johnson, Marc Storace, Dio, Halford, Mustaine, even Till Lindemann or Dirkschneider — or the like would be in heavy, cranked-up rotation.
