Smith was on with two other guys during the Loma pre-fight and on on occasion it looked very much like the guy sitting next to him had to nudge Smith awake with his elbow when the camera came back to them.  He then proceeded to say what sounded like bunch of blustering crap.

So his normal shit?

Skip is WAY better than Max, Shannon is WAY better than Stephen.

I don't mind Skip. Not that I enjoy him and seek out his work but he's nowhere near as bad as Stephen A. All of these guys are normal off air but they are overplaying this bit for tv. Like many have mentioned, they are not here for eloquent discussions. It's all "hot sports takes" and getting in the news for ratings purposes.

Skip Bayless was a pretty good sports columnist for the Dallas Times Herald back in the 80's, so it's disappointing to see what he's been since.  As noted, it's the schtick that's so off-putting.  If he shared his legit opinions in a remotely sane fashion, he'd be much more respectable.

Given his enormous success, Jim Rome is probably responsible for a lot of this schtick-nonsense in sports media, which is unfortunate, because even though Rome's angry-guy/hot take persona is grating, he's a damn good sports analyst and has an IQ above 100, unlike so many in the business.

Regardless, this thread is exhibit-A when it comes to why ESPN pays SAS so much money.  He gets attention, he gets talked about.  People in general, and sports fans in particular, absolutely LOVE to be outraged/offended, and will actively seek out any writer/blogger/broadcaster who will provide that service.

8 to 10 million $ a year to spew drivel on ESPN? Where do I sign up?

What's unreal is that the market is there for his content.

There has always been a market for drivel. The Hearst fortune was built on this fact; Caesar became emperor by exploiting this fact; hell, cave paintings undoubtedly have some exceptionally shallow hidden meaning that Grog used in order to steal hot chicks out from under Oog's nose.

Drivel has always sold; drivel will always sell.

Um, we need to talk about the first emperor of Rome designation, bub.

And how on earth are you comparing Stephen A Smith to an absolute political and military genius, Julius Caesar?

Relax, amigo. I merely refer to media savvy. Julius obviously had other talents, too, but the one I'm referencing is the one whereby he suckered everybody.

I’ve never cheered for the corona virus before. But there’s a first time for everything…is all I’m saying.

Stephen A's claim to fame is that he once made Skip Bayless the more likable person in a duo, a logical impossibility that sociologists are still studying to this day.

#125

Before the big money, he could be entertaining. And he would occasionally say something worthwhile about sports and society. Now he is just a clown and suck ass.

Circus peanuts have had one hell of a run for being a product nobody really likes. It’s the Stephen A. Smith of confections.

Dude, you're dissing circus peanuts. Yeah, they're shitty, but not even they're Stephen A. Smith bad. What a dick. (Him, not you.)

They aren’t shitty. If they were they would go away. I personally hate them but apparently some people are eating them in their closet.
