[…] they realized Excalibur was having pricing issues when the room rate is $29 but they charge $12 for coffee. He says they are making adjustments.

So they’re upping the room rates. Got it.

So it was worth it.  We did two choppers and threw extra girls on a party bus. It was 2 hrs each way.  Chopper worth it.  Here’s a pic of the party bus at 9am.

I’m staying at FB for free right now. I love the room and the casino. Don’t love the distance from everything of course. Eating at Mother Wolf tonight with free dining credit, have heard good things.

Zuma at Cosmo has a $250 minimum per person for NYE.  I think we will be eating in the food court that night as I’m sure most restaurants will be similar.

Looks nice

The newly remodeled Caesars Palace poker room reopens today in its former location near the sportsbook.

Doesn’t a normal dinner at Zuma cost around that?

Back where it belongs.  So glad they realized their mistake - even if it is a loss leader for them.

Went and checked out The wizard of Oz last night at the Sphere. Pretty damn cool, took a couple mushroom stems and enjoyed the show. Going to the hockey game tonight, should be pretty cool.

Planning on flying out on the 18th and staying through the 21st for the first weekend of the CFP. In the past have either stayed at Wynn or Caesar Nobu when I go with my wife or Westgate when I go with my son. Thinking of trying Cosmo this time since I can use Bonvoy points and the terrace rooms overlooking the Bellagio fountains look super cool and are a good price right now. We're early 60. Will we be out of place there? Any other issues with Cosmo?

Cosmo’s fine. Balcony + fountains + edibles makes for a nice time.

Location is pretty convenient, great food options, but skip the buffet as it’s a stupid-level price.

#5369

We've got reservations for the beginning of January, I am really looking forward to that meal.

Agree on skipping the Cosmo buffet.  The food court is a much better option for a quick meal.

Go for it. Balcony rooms have excellent view. Easy walk to anything at Bellagio or Aria.

The crowd is a little younger but the location and balconies can’t be beat, I guess I might be concerned it is cool enough to not enjoy the balcony in late December but that is just up to chance.

Yep. I haven’t been to Vegas in quite a while. That restaurant was run with the oversight of the old man in the way he set things up. I interacted with him a few times and you could just tell his fingerprints were on the culture of the place. I always assumed the son would take over (I never met him) and keep the traditions going. Little did I know he was a problem and not the future of the place.

From reading the comments about it on the LasVegaslocally Twitter feed from earlier in the year, I’m not too optimistic on how this new ownership will do but we can only hope they don’t fuck it up.

Someone should post their next experience here for the rest of us to get an update.

I'm going in January. I didn't know about the ownership change.

Had that on vhs and watched the shit out of it as a kid.  Total coincidence that a pommel horse sized stone was in the middle of the village of the damned.

Probably will take the wife to LV for her 50th in April. I will go back and read this thread for dinner recs etc.

Was wondering where I should be looking at staying for hotels? Not really that concerned about gambling. More focused on great rooms, good location. She will want to see some shows etc.

Thanks for suggestions.

Not much has changed in the last decade. Probably still The Wynn, Aria, and Cosmopolitan depending upon taste. I guess for non-casinos, the only really nice one that I have been to is whatever the Mandarin is now on the Aria property. Away from the strip? Someone else would have to answer.

Bouchon is at the Venetian. That’s where I’d have your Sunday brunch. The quiche is fucking insane, as is anything with scrambled eggs.

I went ahead and ordered the American breakfast for the scrambled eggs. I never eat scrambled eggs. These are perfect eggs. The potatoes were good too, and almond croissant is always great.

Mac - the wife and I stay at Vdara. It’s right there with Aria. We get a corner suite and it’s great. It’s a quiet hotel because it doesn’t have a casino. You are a short walk away from Aria, Cosmo, Bellagio.

Wife and I have settled on the Wynn/Encore for as long as we will be going to Vegas. Location isn't an issue for us, for we may only leave the property a few times when we are there.

Gymkanav was pretty good, it didn’t blow our minds though. The spice level is high. Didn’t bother us, but one of our friends was struggling with it. The pace of food coming out was really slow, but you can probably chalk that up to being new. I would avoid dessert. Let’s just say it was not a highlight of the meal. A very combo of textures and flavors. I would rank Saffron in Nola as significantly better for high end Indian food.

My expectations were too high, but I was a little underwhelmed by Wizard of Oz at the Sphere. Good, very enjoyable, not great. Again, my expectations were not reasonable, so I'd recommend seeing it if you're in town.

A question unrelated to the actual show. Do you require food and drink at an event that's an hour long? The show is only 75 minutes. Two adults in my row spent $200+ a ticket, came in 15 minutes late looking for their seats carrying shitty stadium nachos, popcorn, and large sodas. Of course, they entered the row at the wrong end so 3/4 of the row had to stand up to give them room to shuffle to their seats. Wouldn't it be preferable to skip the food and drinks and get to your seat on time for a short showing?

Follow up question: are the people that got to their seats 20 minutes late carrying two tall boy Modelos each better or worse than the above couple? You've missed more, but it's only five more minutes and you've got beer. They were also seated on an aisle.

#5384

Modelo people are way better.

I enjoyed it for sure but for the cost and length, once was plenty. If someone gave me tickets for free I would do it again and if they did a different movie like this I’d probably try it again depending.

Wife and I grabbed cocktails before the show but yeah don’t understand needing mid nachos for a 75 minute show and missing 20% of it. It did look like there were some other decent/solid food options but 0% I’m missing a minute in this spot.

Staying at the Cosmo at the end of Feb for almost a week for a work thing. It's been a while since I was there. Is it still full of hot slutty chicks that will ignore me while I stare at them?

These are the same people who can't go anywhere without their Stanley.

Or whatever brand of travel mug now confers the greatest social standing among the dimwitted and easily impressed.

My baby brother and I make our annual pilgrimage to Vegas this week and we always stay at the Venetian/Palazzo. The rooms are large (they’re all suites) and plenty opulent.

Had recliners at Circa for the Alabama vs OU playoff game. I find out that the old guy sitting next to me is an OU fan and lives in Norman. Dude would not shut up during the first quarter. Watching his slow burn after being up 17-0 was totally worth the chair price.

If you have a host get with them on access/reservation($$$) to a sportsbook table or other "pop-up" viewing areas most of the casinos do.

That experience is going to vary a lot from casino to casino. We went a number of years in a row from 2000-2010. That is kind of the start of the pay for table era. On one hand you can get a table adjacent to fun people and it will be awesome. On the other hand if the people near you are miserable fucks it can be a drag. Having paid $$$ for that roll of the dice can be frustrating.

Frankly, I think as much fun can be had at many of the bar areas around the casinos, especially given the ability to wager on an app which makes sports book proximity less critical. Obviously the "food" portion of your request will not be a focus if you choose that route. In that regard you should be able to move in and out of some of the sports bar restaurants in the casinos. They largely don't stay full the whole day. Now you can show up and be shut out, but there is ebb and flow.

Just back from taking my wife for her birthday - our first trip to Vegas in close to 20 years. Stayed at the Venetian.

Wizard of Oz at the Sphere was very enjoyable for us.

Dita Von Teese show at the Venetian was a lot of fun.

Piero's for dinner Monday night was outstanding. What a cool restaurant and great history.

Bellagio has a display for Chinese New Year that was worth a walk over to see. Pretty amazing creations with flowers, rice, and seeds.

Took a cab to Fremont and walked around. Covered green on one play of Roulette at Binion's and hit it, so that was nice.

As mentioned by others, Bouchon is outstanding for brunch.

Congrats on the first negative-free Vegas review since 2018!
