September 10Sep 10 I was highly disappointed when the hotdog cart (very good dogs made to order plus a tap beer from the bar for $1.25) back in the Barabary Coast sports book went away after that hotel/casino reimagined itself into a snob joint.

September 10Sep 10 Author The Piero’s news is completely depressing. Yep. I haven’t been to Vegas in quite a while. That restaurant was run with the oversight of the old man in the way he set things up. I interacted with him a few times and you could just tell his fingerprints were on the culture of the place. I always assumed the son would take over (I never met him) and keep the traditions going. Little did I know he was a problem and not the future of the place. From reading the comments about it on the LasVegaslocally Twitter feed from earlier in the year, I’m not too optimistic on how this new ownership will do but we can only hope they don’t fuck it up. Someone should post their next experience here for the rest of us to get an update.

I'll be there with SC in a few weeks, we'll report back.

But this might be the last voyage of the demeter, so to speak. Yeah, 6 months is well within the “honeymoon period” for new ownership where they tend to be hands off…I’ll be there in Feb and will report back, but I’m really hoping they don’t fuck this up.
September 11Sep 11 Would rather see Tool than Metallica at Sphere. Tool was the originator of the visual concert experience and it seems like the Sphere would just be phenomenal but you never know if MJK would be for it or against it.

September 11Sep 11 The little old lady video poker player at Green Valley Ranch I mentioned in post #5243 said she lost her ass the nexy day, but the wins picked up yesterday…. (She’s at the left in this mini-meet photo with our local Vegas friends. As a result of a nerve disease, she has to get around on an electric scooter- the 3 wheeler kind for handicapped)

September 13Sep 13 I'll be landing in Vegas next week for a work conference. I plan to spend most of my time at the craps and roulette tables It's been a few years since I've been to Vegas. Any recommendations on restaurants?

If you want to stay in a casino, Ito is a pretty amazing sushi with a great view (and if you behave you will be allowed to stay and have a drink in the poodle lounge or whatever it is called). I really like going to Chinatown area as well it is a quick cab ride, Kabuto Edomae is excellent. Best Friend in Park MGM is good Korean, we went late night and it was really fun.
September 15Sep 15 "Non-celebrity" restaurant? Wow. It would begin and end at Evel Pie. Celebrities would be tossed out of this joint. But it's the best pizza in Vegas.
September 15Sep 15 Zuma in Cosmo also is a good sushi place and Din Tai Fung in Aria is excellent for Dim Sum. Edited September 15Sep 15 by kevwun

September 18Sep 18 I shit you not, my first day in Vegas I got three requests for lunch: Whataburger, In and Out and Gordon Ramsey's burger place. I settled for Gordon Ramsey's Burger. September 22Sep 22 I'm going for 4 nights in October and have tracked prices (especially MGM properties) daily. There is absolutely nothing special about those rates. Not only are they not the best rates in history, they aren't even the best rates in the past 3 weeks.

We're going for a show in a coupla weeks, and shit, the rate at the Aria I booked a few months ago is better than those rates or any rates I can find on any third party site.
September 23Sep 23 So, I'm not a big gambler, never have been. 30-40 years ago, with dollar blackjack and equally cheap craps and free drinks, Vegas was quite the value proposition. Drinking vast quantities of meeler lite is now off the table for me and all the other expenses and minimums make it not at all a value proposition. It sounds like it's not even worth it for the freak show. Wife just likes games a lot. So, for a quick getaway, we picked Winstar in Thackerville Oklahoma. The rate for the "adjoining" hotel is $500 a fucking night. We stayed in a nearby Best Western for 275. For the record, other than the casino, which is a fairly impressive physical plant, there is jack shit in Thackerville fucking Oklahoma. Enshittification, indeed.

September 23Sep 23 yeah, breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi is a must for us every trip (as well as at Bouchon)
September 23Sep 23 4 hours ago, orange dream said: not @F250, but whoever made the requests... A couple of people that used to live in Texas years ago and got excited about Whataburger. To be fair, they were unaware of the decline of Whataburger and still operating under the old Texas enthusiasm for Whataburger.

Wynn/Encore has such great breakfast/brunch places that makes it hard to make the trip. Sitting on the patio overlooking the strip is a nice place to have a (fairly) early meal, however.
September 24Sep 24 Mon Amie Gabi went sideways after the pandemic and then also raised prices. Used to go religiously for brunch, twice a year, once on each visit. Haven’t been there in 2 years and not going next week either. Fuck skimping on quality while raising prices.
