Never have in my dozen or so trips to Vegas; always cabbed it, even in the age of Uber because it was convenient.  I'm a low baller; no resort is going to send one to fetch the bride and myself.  However, for our trip in July, I'm seriously contemplating hiring a car/SUV/whatever.

Anyone have recommendations on one company vs another?

I don’t gamble nearly enough to get a resort car either.  Almost every trip to Vegas, we’ve just walked out to the “limo line” or whatever they call it, right outside of baggage claim and asked the 4-5 guys sitting there in various limos, which one can give us the best deal to the hotel.  Usually ranges somewhere around $60 - $80 with very little haggling.  And we’re off.  More convenient than a cab.  A little more expensive but worth it.  At that point in the trip, why sweat a $20 - $30 upcharge?

On the way back to the airport from the resort on the other hand...

So it was worth it.  We did two choppers and threw extra girls on a party bus. It was 2 hrs each way.  Chopper worth it.  Here’s a pic of the party bus at 9am.

I’m staying at FB for free right now. I love the room and the casino. Don’t love the distance from everything of course. Eating at Mother Wolf tonight with free dining credit, have heard good things.

I'm going to Vegas beginning of June for a conference but I'm boring and don't drink or gamble so I need some suggestions of other things to do. Conference is over on a Thursday so I'm thinking of staying out there and flying back Sunday instead. I'm even open to renting a car and traveling those 2 days.

I’d say start drinking now.

Check out a few shows.

You don’t drink or gamble, but what are your thoughts on hookers?

Mount Charleston; only an hour away

Hoover Dam is close by and a neat tour.  They have a longer tour that requires reservations for.  Shorter tour just show up.

As suggested, check out a few shows; there's plenty of variety.

Food?  Line up different places to go Thur-Fri-Sat evening.  World class dining is everywhere, if that's your thing.

Mob Museum downtown is highly recommended; I've been twice.

The Lodge was recently purchased by Ellis Island Casino. I haven’t been since the purchase but I would assume the food is better. Main attraction is the drive up and back plus in the summer it’s about 20-30 degrees cooler than the Strip and you can sit outside to eat at 7,700 feet. It’s not a must-do activity but worth it for people who have been to Vegas lots and looking for something different as a change-up.

Did an ATV tour at Red Rocks NP and highly recommend spending the day there.  Drove from Grand Junction to Zion last summer and would spend a couple of days there next time.

Virgin Hotels Las Vegas is continuing its lovefest with a long-running Las Vegas expo.

The vast AVN Show, with all of its moving parts, is returning to the former Hard Rock Hotel in January. Convention officials announced a three-year extension beginning with next year’s show from Jan. 18-23. The expo’s signature event, the 38th annual AVN Awards Show also known as the Porn Awards, is set for Jan. 21 at the Joint.

Hotel officials held off plans to close the property for its changeover from Hard Rock Hotel to Virgin Hotels to honor the AVN partnership.

“We recognize that our convention customers at Hard Rock were important to the property and to the base foundation of our goals moving forward,” Virgin Hotels Las Vegas President and CEO Richard “Boz” Bosworth said Monday. “We delayed construction in order to serve these groups. Otherwise, we would have started sooner. They are very cherished clients.”

Valley of Fire State Park is a little farther away than Red Rocks but I like the scenery better

Aria dining update (Vegas Eater):

Boldly promising a summer debut for its highly respected Taiwanese dumpling and noodle menu, global brand Din Tai Fung has budgeted a pricey makeover for its 13th American restaurant, now under construction at Aria.

Replacing Aria Cafe, once known as the largest 24-hour café on the Strip, Din Tai Fung will fill 5,580 square feet and take advantage of the cafe’s huge, tilted windows looking out onto Nancy Rubins’ Big Edge canoe sculpture and Vdara.

Allocating an early estimated $2.2 million in construction costs alone, much of the cafe’s interior furnishings remain in place before the remodel of the dining room and an open kitchen to allow diners to view the preparation of xiao long bao, steamed pork soup dumplings, precisely made with 18 “lucky” folds, 5 grams of meat, and 16 grams of dough.

Expanding since 1958 to more than 170 locations across 13 countries, in Los Angeles diners grew accustomed to waiting 90 minutes for a table, a delay that will be alleviated by the size of the Las Vegas restaurant.

In Las Vegas, diners can expect a menu featuring shao pot stickers, noodle soups, fried Shanghai-style crispy fried pork chops, wontons with shrimp and pork, pork buns, and long bao desserts.

It was blocked off a couple weeks ago with a ton of signage... can’t wait to partake next year!

By then it will be Corona Light.

Wife is going Wednesday for Con-Expo. I fly out Friday.

And it will be about 70 degrees inside the stadium with a roof over it ?

Oh, duh.  I didn't know it was a domed stadium, but should have known it would be.  Don't give two shits about the Raiders though.

Here In LV for a conference a couple days then will get after it starting Friday afternoon.  The suites at Nomad are incredible.  The 2BR is as nice as anything I’ve been in.  Definitely stayed in larger but the quality of furnishings / design etc.  Service so far has been top notch too.  Props

FYI.  I booked Wynn for 5 nights in July.  Checked today, and the same booking is $200 less.  I figure it's going to get even lower

Locals very nervous that tourism is gonna crash.  Rightfully so.  Definitely already seemed a bit slower than a typical early March weekend.

The Vegas business model is predicated on two big categories these days: business convention travel and whales. And both of those are crashing. As long as we have this crisis, they should be concerned.

Volvo and Mack Trucks pulled out of Con-Expo in LasVegas. Those are two big names leaving. Wife and I are still heading out this week.

Only 1 name. Mack is a division of Volvo. I'm wondering if this lasts into April and the NFL draft.

So far:

The NXT Global Summit was canceled. The inaugural conference, focusing on emerging trends in technology and media, was expected to be held July 14-15 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Engineering company Aruba Networks will not host the upcoming conference March 23-27. The company announced it will take place via video, streaming and small local events, “rather than an in-person event in Las Vegas,” according to a post on the show’s website.

Software company Adobe said it will not host its upcoming Adobe Summit at The Venetian this month, citing the spread of coronavirus. The annual summit, taking place March 29 through April 2, was expected to bring about 22,000 guests to the Las Vegas Strip, but it will now be held online..

Atlassian Summit 2020, scheduled to be in an-person conference starting March 31, has been canceled. It has turned into a remote event April 1-2.

Google canceled a major internal sales and marketing event in Las Vegas, set to take place in March.

A friend went out from Austin to Vegas last week. Said the usually full morning nonstop SWA flight had at least 50 empty seats, and the same on the return flight.

Wife and I are planning to go July 10 - 15.  I guess we'll wait a few weeks to book anything.

Anyone planning on going for March Madness?  My wife and I are supposed to fly out on Wednesday and still plan on doing so as of now.

I love March Madness and I love Vegas, but fuck that is the worst weekend to go IMO. Might be different this year with all of the travel and crowd fears.

Yeah, but it seems like a really bad idea idea right now. Sitting in a conference room or sports book or where ever with drunk people from all over the country doesn’t seem like it will work out well. Hotel rates have dropped considerably though,

Locals very nervous that tourism is gonna crash.  Rightfully so.  Definitely already seemed a bit slower than a typical early March weekend.

Vegas seems like a bad choice during a pandemic, but if airfare and the Wynn rates drop low enough, I can use it as a fun pool weekend and avoid the craps tables and clubs. I think it would still be fun? Maybe?

Coronavirus is probably the weakest virus you could get during a wild weekend in Vegas

Same here. We weren’t planning a trip, but...we just might now!

I'm scheduled to stay at the Nugget from March 19 through the 22nd.  We'll see if that happens, but until it's cancelled, I gotta work at making plans.

Brad Garrett's comedy show at MGM Grand has been recommended.  Is it legit?

We wanna shoot machine guns and it looks like there are quite a few options.  Who specifically should we check out?

Myself and three friends going. Booked months ago and not cancelling. May not be smartest decision, but if I’m going down, doing so in a blaze of glory - Vegas style.

I like it.  We found a sports bar that is $60 for a “premium” open bar from tip off to final whistle for Thursday.  Alcohol will be more likely to kill me than any virus.

Just a reminder, 80 Proof liquor isn't strong enough to kill Corona. 100 Proof or die.

Word is they are closing buffets to preemptively thwart losing money on smaller crowds, not to mitigate virus transmission.
