January 15, 20223 yr Author I haven’t been in a few years. Best places to stay and splurge on 3 night trip with wife? Depends on where you want to eat and use the pool and see any shows or activities. Cannot beat Wynn/Encore for sure. But if you might be doing more center Strip things, could look at Sky suites at Aria (recently revamped I think), or a suite with balcony at Cosmo overlooking the Strip and Bellagio fountains.

Honestly, take a bit and study up on some of the things you and your wife might want to do. If all you want to do is stay at one place to eat your meals and do whatnot, then Wynn might fit what you are looking for. You certainly will spend quite a bit of money there (and you can elsewhere--- for example The Mansion at MGM will take your money). But as pointed out, if you wish to trek out and see what this or that place might offer then something more centrally located will be more convenient. Wife and I have a suite booked for July at Caesars; not because we think it's the place with best service or whatnot, but because we had never stayed there and wanted to cross it off the list. However, we both concur, at our age, that we are past the getting out and exploring stuff in Vegas. We just want to lay on our asses, eat and get buzzed and get served, with minimal fuss. For that, for us, Wynn it is. Edited January 15, 20223 yr by Francisco 2.0

Last time in Vegas we went and ate at some Japanese place well off the strip that was excellent. No idea what it was called.
January 15, 20223 yr I agree, read up on a few options for me and for the same reasons Aria works. The central strip location is great but it is set far back from the strip so take that into account. The corner suite’s are nice and a little cheaper then Wynn. We stayed in one last time and the wife loved it (I think the panoramic view one, is the layout with a huge master bath and the tub in the corner with great views your wife might like). Next trip in March is in a sky suite but haven’t stayed in one yet.

Last time in Vegas we went and ate at some Japanese place well off the strip that was excellent. No idea what it was called. Could have been Sen of Japan. One of the higher rated locals places that I frequent. Last time I went I was sitting next to a fairly well known guy who won the World Series of Poker.
January 15, 20223 yr Author If you want to really go big baller style and money isn’t a concern, you could stay at The Mansion (mentioned above). Won’t offer the Strip views but otherwise spectacular with the best service of any place. I toured it with management years ago. Only starting a few years ago would they let you pay for a room. Previously it was only invited guests who are whales (huge gamblers).

January 15, 20223 yr If you smoke (cigs, cigars, cannabis, etc), the balconies at Cosmo are excellent. If you don’t, they’re still really great with a fountain view. I agree with looking around. There are also several places with plunge pool suites, if that’s of interest and in season. I would start by thinking about the things you want to do, seeing where they’re located, and finding a good spot in that area. You wouldn't really want to have a ton of things planned on one end, but then end up staying on the other end. You can do it, but now parking/driving comes into play. Also look at styles of rooms. If some type of style/design makes you want to puke, maybe look at another hotel that has a better feel.

Yeah, a Wraparound Suite at the Cosmo overlooking the Bellagio Fountain show will sit well with the wife.
January 15, 20223 yr Stumbled across this image on one of the twitter threads above way back in the day, I vaguely recall an all afternoon mechanical horsey marathon at some random casino (IP?) . The shit talk was flying, tips and hence drinks were flowing, and we got impressively tanked. I guess there's only one of these left in Vegas. Shame. Those who know, are in the know. Best game in Vegas AFAIC and one of several reasons we consistently find ourselves downtown.

The initial attraction was the cost/benefit ratio calculated in complimentary drinks, but we soon came to appreciate the social aspect (like a craps table), it was just a lot of fucking fun. I havent been in vegas in several years, and its been longer than that since I cozied up to the horsey table, but next time I go it will be on the agenda.

January 18, 20223 yr Author Mattress Mack lost $4.7 million in six days betting on football. On Jan. 10, Houston furniture store owner Jim McIngvale, aka “Mattress Mack,” lost $2.7 million in money-line wagers on Alabama when the Crimson Tide lost 33-18 to Georgia in the College Football Playoff national title game.On Saturday, Mack lost $2 million in futures bets on the Patriots to win the Super Bowl when New England was whipped 47-17 by the Buffalo Bills in their AFC wild-card playoff game.Mack, who placed the bets on Alabama at Caesars Sportsbook and the wagers on the Patriots at Barstool Sportsbook and theScore Bet, said Monday that he took the losses in stride.“Life happens and you move on,” said McIngvale, 70. “You know how long it took me to get over it? Two seconds each. A gambler has to be resilient, if anything. They knock you down and you’ve got to get back up.“A setback is just a setup for a comeback.”The bets on Alabama were the latest in a long line of multimillion-dollar hedge bets to offset potential losses on furniture promotions. In this case, customers were offered their money back on purchases of $3,000 or more if the Tide won.“The promotion was great because Alabama is such a strong brand,” Mack said. “I made my last bet on the Sunday night before the game. So many people came in Monday, they overwhelmed us. I was a little heavy on the other side, so it worked out.“Afterwards, we did a deal where we offered all customers who lost a $1,000 gift certificate. It was good for business.”The wagers on the Patriots, which would’ve paid $46 million at 23-1 odds, weren’t part of a promotion. Mack placed the bets Nov. 18, during New England’s seven-game regular-season winning streak, and simply thought they were a good value at 23-1.Mack won $2.7 million on Tampa Bay +3½ over Kansas City in last year’s Super Bowl to snap a losing streak that included $13 million in losing bets on the Houston Astros to win the 2019 World Series. After cashing his tickets on the Buccaneers, Mack has lost a total of $12.1 million in wagers: $1 million on Houston to win the NCAA title, $2.4 million on Essential Quality to win the Kentucky Derby, $4 million on the Astros to win the World Series and the $4.7 million in bets on Alabama and the Patriots.Mack said all the gambling losses have been worth it when taking the promotions and publicity it has generated for his Gallery Furniture stores into consideration.“Absolutely. It creates excitement,” he said. “Brick-and-mortar retailers are under siege right now. Unless we do something to differentiate ourselves from the competition, the Amazons of the world are going to overwhelm us.”Stay tuned for Mack’s next massive bet.“I’m trying to get one going for this weekend. I’m looking at the futures right now,” he said. “You tell them I’m still firing away. I ain’t backing down.”https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports/betting/mattress-mack-loses-4-7m-in-6-days-betting-football-2514812/

January 19, 20223 yr Vegas was pretty dead this past weekend, at least compared to how it was in July. No waits at restaurants or for Ubers. We had dinner Thursday at Amalfi, Bobby Flay’s new Italian seafood restaurant in Caesars. It was great. The fried mixed shellfish and charred octopus appetizers were delicious. Our main courses were both tasty: squid ink fettuccine and the Scialatielli. We did the caramel espresso tiramisu and blood orange cheesecake. No food was left behind.
January 19, 20223 yr Beauty and Essex was really good. The food was great. The ambiance was top notch. And the talent on display was fantastic. Its definitely worth going if you are in town. Also, that bone marrow was legit as was the grilled cheese tomato soup in a spoon thing.

January 20, 20223 yr I need to go back and look who recommended but Bavette’s was frikin great. There is a “speakeasy” in the back and the bartender let us sample quite a few different whiskeys for no charge. Also the adult video conference starts tomorrow and the cosmopolitan is hopping. I’m trying to figure out why I am leaving tomorrow.

January 20, 20223 yr Beginner class learn to play craps at the former Hard Rock. Requirement to sign up for their rewards program which I believe is free to do There’s only one lesson for roulette: don’t play. The craps lessons in the casinos are usually very good. I took one years ago as colleagues were playing. It shitty teachers. I will go with folks wanting to learn the game; I always relearn a lesson. It is such a simple game yet that table is so intimidating. I will take them to an empty table and teach basics.Pass line, odds, stay away from the garbage. Nothing is as exciting as a hot craps table.

January 21, 20223 yr Author Check the Gambling board thread Craps for Beginners. I’m not an expert on craps but betting the “ don’t pass “ is basically wagering that the shooter will roll a 7 before hitting the point number. It’s a fairly simple bet however there are additional hedging strategies that can be employed and get more complicated. Ask your question over there and should get some responses.

January 21, 20223 yr I could not find a hot craps table and all the tables were $25 minimum. I turned $1k into $100 in about two hours. Thankfully the table turned and I clawed back to $800 with about 4 more hours of work. Actually if I had stopped an hour earlier I’d probably have made money but the table was fun, the drinks were flowing, and the eye candy at Cosmo was pretty great.

January 21, 20223 yr Author I guess Adelle wasn’t exactly a covid related cancel. Seems she just doesn’t have her shit together yet. Here’s to hoping other shows/tours don’t follow.I think she is saying it’s pretty much covid related when half her show team has/had it and then covid related (?) supply chain issues. Hopefully a few months pushed back and then it’s a go. She’s slated to make record amounts per night and to bring in a high dollar crowd. So Vegas could use it ASAP.
January 21, 20223 yr Landed in Vegas last night and promptly got the Adele is cancelled tickemaster email. So, "stuck" in Vegas for 3 days after just being here for Christmas. Looking for a show tonight and then a 36 hour sports book binge. Playoff football ratchets up the fun in the books for sure.
