They will most likely have to repave big parts of the course every year, so that will still be a pain in the lead up to the race.

So it was worth it.  We did two choppers and threw extra girls on a party bus. It was 2 hrs each way.  Chopper worth it.  Here’s a pic of the party bus at 9am.

I’m staying at FB for free right now. I love the room and the casino. Don’t love the distance from everything of course. Eating at Mother Wolf tonight with free dining credit, have heard good things.

Where and why? The only problem areas were the valve covers afaik. The other problem was a green track. They need to run a couple lower tier races to put some rubber down. That would close the track for a longer time, but I  bet Vegas would be dtf.

Wear and tear from highway traffic or cracks.  Something will need to be fixed you can pretty much guarantee it.  Any non smooth surfaces will eat the tires

Yeah...I think they will rotomill and re-pave large sections of the track every year. But with all the construction done,  that can all be done in the middle of the night and hopefully be less disruptive going forward.

The casinos reportedly did record business and are happy.

i saw some tweet that said the Wynn dealers make a record number of tips on Saturday night.  the exact number escapes me but something like an extra $2-3K per dealer vs normal Sat night.

Peter Luger's was very disappointing.  The steaks were very under seasoned and not particularly high quality pieces of meat.  They also cook giant porterhouses on a flatop at super high temps, so they have an almost burnt crust and the medium rare part of the steak is a lot thinner because they have to cook them so long because of their thickness.  They are super proud of their steak sauce which is 100% cocktail sauce.  We also went to Zuma for the first time and it was excellent sushi.  Would definitely recommend it.

Check out Joe’s steakhouse next time. We had a great experience there and food was on point.

Fontainbleau casino now open on the north part of the strip looks nice. 4 pics in the link:

$1000 min craps table. $100 min black jack at 2am… not sure who they are expecting to play.

Nurses.

1000 craps?  Holy Shit.  Is that a typo?

You could play $100 blackjack for several days for what you would have on the table in a couple rolls playing $1000 craps

I’m in Vegas. Taking my wife and friends to Garth Brooks tonight for her birthday. I’ve got a few problems with Garth Brooks destroying country music, but whatever, they’ll have fun.

Anyway, some of our buddies are friends with the Raiders GM. We got to go down on the field last night before the game and then they hosted us in the GM suite, which was fun.

While we were on the field, I spotted Cole Hauser and spoke to him. Nice guy. Bigger than you’d think. In the pic below, my wife is 5’10”. She’s leaning into him, but still, he’s taller than you’d think.

Got to see Montell Jordan fuck up the national anthem. That had to have made social media, right? We spoke to him on the field as well and he was sober as a preacher. Not sure what happened for him but I felt bad.

I started giving the Raiders GM, Champ Kelly, some pointers late but I don’t know how interested he was because he kept walking off to talk to other people and I kept having to catch up in order to extol more virtues about the current UT roster.

It's more common than you think. Hearing what you just said on even the slightest delay through the PA will mindfuck you.

Was there last weekend.  If you're looking for an off-strip restaurant, the food at The Black Sheep (on Warm Springs Road about 10 miles SW of the strip) was really good.  And Piero's was excellent as well.

Mother effer.

Flying to Vegas Tuesday.  Just herniated a disc in my back.  This is the *5th time in the last 12 years so, at least I know the drill.  F sakes.  I am not looking forward to the flight.

*Herniated disc; not trip to Vegas.

That was the opening night min for the celeb event. By Friday the limits were in the 15-25 dollar range.

Jesus, man… what happened to Cole?! Guy looks terrible…

50-60 lbs

He's been sitting around the pool all day, chasing the muff around.

I got that too.  I'm glad.  I got bumped up a tier last trip and will get to take advantage of it at least once now before they switch everyone over to MGM Rewards.

I'm sure the ransomware attack was a big reason for the delay.

Don't many hotels offer check-in via their apps? I still prefer having the plastic key but I won't wait in a long line for it.

Cosmo doesn't yet, but I think that may change when they are fully integrated in to MGM.

Guess they need a space with lots of available land so near Primm fits the bill. Would almost be considered another LA area airport lol

If they ever got high speed rail running that could almost be a workable location

He doesn't have to chase it.  It leans into him.

MGM Resorts has bumped up the self-parking rates at its Las Vegas properties, though the change does not affect in-state residents.

A spokesperson confirmed that as of Dec. 20, a flat daily maximum rate is in place for out-of-state visitors.

From Monday through Thursday, the daily rate is $18. From Friday through Sunday, the rate is $23.

This change eliminates the 1-4 hour parking window, which charged $15 Monday through Thursday and $20 Friday through Sunday. There is also no longer a free first hour.

The black book explained (LVRJ):

A new name was added in December to Nevada’s List of Excluded Persons, the so-called “black book” listing of individuals who are forever banned from Nevada casinos.

Mississippi resident Shaun Joseph Benward, a self-described magician and illusionist who worked with an accomplice to distract roulette dealers in schemes to steal money from casinos, was the 36th entry on the list after a vote by the Nevada Gaming Commission.

What exactly is the “black book?”

According to the Control Board, it’s a list of persons compiled since 1960 of persons involved in casino cheating that have a felony conviction, have committed a crime involving “moral turpitude” or violating gaming laws in other states, have failed to disclose an interest in a gaming establishment, willfully evaded paying taxes or have a “notorious and unsavory reputation,” as defined by state and federal investigators.

Gaming industry leaders offer suggestions to regulators about individuals who should be placed on the list. The state’s attorney general’s office evaluates a prospective addition, investigates the individual’s record, then compiles a detailed report. That report summarizes the individual’s transgressions and concludes with a proposal nominating that person to the list through a review and vote by the three-member Gaming Control Board.

While gathering the report takes hours of investigation and research by the attorney general’s office, the session before the Control Board takes about 15-30 minutes.

Once approved, the individual is then notified of the nomination and can request a hearing before the five-member Nevada Gaming Commission to oppose inclusion and can be represented by legal counsel who can gather evidence to counter the allegations.

The commission then has the authority to place the name on the list and it becomes a licensee’s responsibility to keep that person out of the casino. Persons listed on the black book found in casinos can face new misdemeanor criminal charges.

Exceptions to the rule are small restricted licensees, such as convenience stores, restaurants, bars and taverns.

In the case of Benward, the attorney general’s office offered a full report in September and the nomination was unanimously approved. Through a lengthy notification process, it took until late December to prepare for the agenda item to formally place the name on the list.

Unlike some other states, Nevada Control Board agents that oversee the list have purposely kept it small over the years in order to list only the worst of the worst.

Over time, the focus of the list has changed with most of the initial inductees being organized crime figures. Among the earliest names on the list: John Louis Battaglia, Michael Coppola, Louis Tom Dragna, Sam Giancana, and Tony “The Ant” Spilotro.

After the wave of reputed mobsters was added, cheaters who used mechanical devices or distraction techniques were targeted. Most recently, regulators took a step toward outlawing persons with a history of human trafficking to be banned.

Once a person is named to Nevada’s List of Excluded Persons, they’re there for life – although they can appeal that. No one has ever successfully appealed their placement.

Every couple of years, the attorney general’s office reviews the whereabouts of persons on the list and will seek a regulatory action to purge the names of persons they can confirm have died.

Why wouldn't they put a new airport out by Nellis?

Seems like it, yeah.

I’d have to dig more, but surely they have to be planning some sort of light rail between the strip. 30 miles in a cab and THEN hit strip traffic? No thanks.

They are calling it a supplemental airport, who the fuck is going to pick to fly out of that. Maybe for locals and cargo but the passenger airlines that have to move to that airport are going to be at a big disadvantage.

I saw the line for XS last night, then I went to my room and bed.

The talent in line was impressive.

Holy crap that’s gonna be something if enforced at all. But I assume passed out sleeping or selling bottled water still okay.

Good for them.  Blocking pedestrian traffic to take pictures anywhere should be punishable by 5-10 years.

I heard it was due to pressure from F1 and there is no way they have the man power to enforce it regularly.

You can't tell me that any tourist visiting one of the most iconic streets in the world would EVER want to stop and take a pic.  I just don't see it.

Seems like we will have a lot of selective enforcement with this law.
