December 18, 20187 yr OK, from search it looks like there is scattered Christmas movie talk going on in several threads, but we need a proper thread for this. What ya got? Me, never really got into It's a Wonderful Life until well into adulthood, was and still am a Miracle on 34th Street guy. I'm a train nut, so Polar Express is a natural for me. Big fan of the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol. A Christmas Story, goes without saying (yeah I just said it), 24 hours on TBS is always on in the background at our house. And my favorite, mentioned on the old site as well, none other than the gang of Stalag 17. Play us somethin', Joey.
December 18, 20187 yr Stalag 17 FTMFW.I also consider LA Confidential a must watch Christmas movie. And no xmas eve is complete without It's a Wonderful Life. The Apartment is required viewing between Christmas and NYE.
December 18, 20187 yr 1 - It's a Wonderful Life 2 - Home Alone 3 - White Christmas 4 - Die Hard 5 - Scrooged I must watch the Top 5 every year.
December 18, 20187 yr 1. Scrooged 2. Elf 3. The Gathering with Ed Asner 4. White Christmas 5. The Holiday

December 18, 20187 yr My number 6 would be the original Miracle on 34th Street. Fell in love with New York at Christmas with that film. Edited December 18, 20187 yr by Brandywine

December 18, 20187 yr Author Damn, forgot one or my favorites, since you rarely see it on TV anymore, but before "The Waltons" there was a stand-alone TV movie called The Homecoming. It's really good. You can find it on youtube.
December 18, 20187 yr Die Hard Vacation Trading Places Gremlins And I like A Christmas Story but think it's kinda humor for dorks. Don't @ me.
December 18, 20187 yr Happy Days has a great episode where Fonzi lies about going to family for xmas but Richie spots him eating alone in the garage where he works and talks his Dad into inviting him over.

December 19, 20187 yr Unpopular opinion time:Over the years I probably saw all of Christmas Vacation several times, just broken into pieces as it aired on TV. I finally watched it start to finish a few years ago and decided I’m not a huge fan. It’s lowbrow humor that uses cliche characters in incredibly ridiculous situations, mostly the result of their own stupidity. That brand of humor was common in the 80s but doesn’t really appeal to me today. I think a lot of people like it for nostalgia reasons, which I’ll admit is enough for me to casually leave it on in the background, but not enough for me to make an effort to actually watch it.

December 19, 20187 yr Love Actually is a good call. Yeah, it's very chick flickish but there are some nice, gratuitous titties with the porn star stand in scenes plus enough adult humor to balance out the sappier storylines.
December 19, 20187 yr I consider the first Lethal Weapon a Christmas movie. Like Die Hard, an action flick that takes place during the Christmas season, and actually came out the year before Die Hard. The two make a fantastic Christmas double-feature.

December 19, 20187 yr Die Hard A Christmas Story OG Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Charlie Brown Christmas Love Actually (agree with GhostOfTomJoad, it's somewhat chick flicky but has redeeming qualities-- the Bill Nighy scenes all by themselves elevate the entire movie)
