December 18, 20187 yr Damn...RIP Penny. Looking back at some of those old shows that I watched as a kid, I’m amazed at how easily entertained we were.

December 18, 20187 yr An incredible loss, she was one of the greats. Especially as a director, she often brought a different touch as compared to the usual Hollywood formula. I thought The Preacher's Wife was outstanding in that regard.

December 18, 20187 yr I’ll poor out some milk and Pepsi in her memory. Too slow. Edited December 18, 20187 yr by RoundRobin

Coincidentally, I happened to catch an old rerun of Murphy Brown last night that had Michael McKean as a guest star. He killed. I was in tears. He played an aging lounge singer that Murphy had a crush on in high school. A highlight was him singing "Me and Murphy Brown" to the tune of Me and Mrs. Jones.

He'll always be David St. Hubbins to me.
December 18, 20187 yr Sister of Garry Marshall, another giant... developed Happy Days and all those spinoffs (Mork, Laverne/Shirley, etc.). Terrific actor, producer, writer (writing credits among some of the best shows on TV ever). They were close and a helluva team. Garry died 2 years ago. RIP both...

December 18, 20187 yr AOTL is one of the top sports movies, always a channel surfing stop whenever on.
December 18, 20187 yr Just watched it this past weekend. Damn solid baseball flick and oh so damn quotable
December 18, 20187 yr I think it’s better than The Natural, Field of Dreams and most certainly Major League.

December 19, 20187 yr I think it’s better than The Natural, Field of Dreams and most certainly Major League. Agreed, and I love all three of those.
December 19, 20187 yr Author Love me some A League of Their Own. It's hilarious and is there a more famous baseball move line the, "There's not crying in baseball!"? Not sure it beats The Natural, Field of Dreams (which is as much a family movie), or Bull Durham, but aren't those the big 5 in Modern Times right there, along with Major League? There are some other good baseball movies like Eight Men Out or Moneyball or The Sandlot, but League is definitely right there in the discussion as a top tier baseball movie of all-time. Awakenings is a underrated Penny movie as well. I never understood why she wasn't more prolific in her directing career. Maybe it was the institutional sexism in the industry at the time but she obviously had the chops for it. She pretty much quits after a Preacher's Wife.... doing only one more film. Never made much sense. I
December 19, 20187 yr I think we can all agree ALOTO is a great baseball movie and the GOAT of AAGPBL movies.
December 19, 20187 yr This has zero to do with penny Marshall RIP, but it seems many of you have never seen Bang the Drum Slowly.
December 19, 20187 yr We don't want to go down the baseball movie rabbit hole. That's for another thread and I started it here.
December 19, 20187 yr I hope her soul passes "near Mexico" on its way to eternal peace. Need us more like Penny in this ole verldt.
