For what it's worth, S&P+ has Alabama as a two-point favourite over Clemson on a neutral field. And S&P+ has hit 54% against the spread and 53% on the O/U point totals for the year, it's performing quite well.

I'll take Bama to cover first half spread

FWIW they didn't cover tonight.

And yet they could have. Going for it really wouldn’t have even been risky. The sport has turned into pure entertainment and feels scripted.

I think Clemson has a 50/50 shot to win outright.  I'm gonna wait and see if that line hits 7 or 7.5.

It all started when they began scripting the first ten plays or so, and sudden change of possession plays.  After that it was all downhill.

Alabama wins but taking the under.

Early in the season the golden nugget was offering lines on potential championship games against bama.  I think Clemson was in the 10 point range but they may have even been higher.  Either way it’s hard to imaging that bama won’t be walking away with yet another natty...I wish it wasn’t that way though.

I kinda don't care much either. I was hoping OU and ND would win their games today. I'm certainly not fans of either team, but I'd like to watch something new. Pretty clearly, ND hasn't belonged in the playoffs their last couple of tries. No more special deal for them. They're just another team.

I'm thinking that the ratings will be down. Casual viewers might feel about this game like they felt about the rematch of LSU and Alabama some years ago.

Bama/Clemson is now what the Warriors/Cavs was in the NBA Finals. 4 years in a row for both.

Lawrence is not as dynamic as Watson was. I see it going like it did last year.

I wonder.  Clemson is clearly miles ahead of OU defensively, and Lawrence keeps trending up.  I wouldn't be surprised either way.

And 54% S&P against the spread?  Marginally better than random, doesn't cover the vig.  Why this passes as "strong" I cannot imagine.   Better than the alternative?  Just barely.  Still, not good, by any definition of a strong prediction.

I think Clemson has the defense to hang with Bama. Not sure about the offense though.

52.4% is the magic number in sports wagering

I’d feel better about Clemson if saban hadn’t dimed them out. They’ll miss the suspended dL.

There are no true freshmen in January, or something like that.

I’m pulling for Clemson, but Bama will probably win. You know ESPN is worried about ratings, cause the first thing they said this morning was people should celebrate this matchup. It’s great that we get the same teams playing each other in the playoffs for the 4th year in a row. You should enjoy greatness. They know it’s a problem.

So yeah, for this game, he won't be as dynamic as Watson. My point stands.

Yeah, this is my first instinct. Clemson is a better football team than OU, but they are a better matchup for Bama.

So basically it’s like 3% better than a chicken

Tua wont have the heismanhate of a regarded midget in this one. Bama will cover.  That's all.

Agreed, when does next season start..? (but I still plan on watching the Rose/ Sugar & CFP title game, for an exciting conclusion to this bowl season)...

I think Bama wins this year, but Clemson will beat Bama next year.

And then Bama will beat Clemson 2 straight years after that then Clemson beats Bama in triple OT then ....

Clem in 8 OTs

We wouldn't have sequels that might rival in count franchises like A Nightmare On Elm Street or Friday the 13th, if CFP expands...

45-17 Alabama.

I'll take Clemson +27.5

I win, you don't post on Surly for a year. Same vice versa.

putting my money where my mouth is; I'm taking Clemson.  Alabama is great, but I just see let down.

As a lapsed gambler, I'm jonesing to take that Clemson moneyline. -7 or thereabouts is the real good stuff.
