It was the 182nd-ranked Antonia Lottner. Also holy shit, Tara Moore recovered from a 0-6 0-5 match-point deficit to beat Jessica Ponchet: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/47871628

  • and fed's through to the quarters.  took the 3rd set in a tiebreaker at 3.

  • Pocket Rocket is hanging ‘em up. Helluva career for what she had to work with.

Ferrer and Zverev playing a very high quality match right now in the Hopman cup. In my opinion the Australian swing is the best part of the year, even more than the US swing in the summer.

Agreed. Kinda wish the AO was a little later just to draw it out more.

Serena beat Sakkari in straights today in the Hopman Cup. She usually doesn’t try in exhibition matches so I was surprised she won it

Venus over Vika in 3 in Auckland. Just absolutely amazes me how rarely anyone mentions Venus’ shrieks, she is clearly louder than Maria or Vika.

In Hopman Cup news, Federer beat Tiafoe in straights while Serena defeated Bencic in three. Doubles decider happening now.

Welp, we made it all the way to January 2 before we get Rafa’s first withdrawal of the season.

We shoud set an O/U, I’m thinking 6.5.

Genie up a set over hot Julia in Auckland now on TC.

Yeah I've been watching. Too bad Anisimova couldn't pull out the win, she had all the momentum late then blew it like the Auckland wind

Back-to-back wins for 18-year old Bianca Andreescu over Caro & Venus in Auckland.

i'm trying to make it to 12:30 for the auckland final but i've gotten 15 total hours of sleep in 2019.

And they’ll probably leave that one at 1 for Brisbane.

Genie & Kenin just won the Auckland doubles crown after getting served an opening set breadstick.

Julia did not enjoy that set.

I enjoyed her Asics kit though.

The kid keeled over with a break lead in the second, got boatraced from there. Hot Julia with the breadstick for the title.

Sabalenka/Julia/KP win the first three, can’t be mad at any of those.

Barty is -500 over Ostapenko, that is fucking crazy.

Petra v. Sabalenka in R1 is dirty.

Petra wins. Probably best for Aryna to get some rest after Shenzhen.

That was a goddamn AWFUL match. Alexandrova fell up a break & 30-0 in the second, then the whole thing just unraveled. The last half of the 3rd was not a good look for the sport.

I didn't get to watch. I'll need to catch high....lowlights I guess

56 UEs for the Rooskie, 46 for Sloane.

Davenport could barely keep it together, she really wanted to rip both players.

Sloane usually doesn't put her best foot forward in smaller tournaments so in my head I'm imagining Sloane trying hard to tank but still somehow accidentally winning due to her opponent somehow playing even worse

  • Author

Ha, Sloane basically did the exact opposite of her last match this time. 6-3, 6-7, 0-6. Didn’t see it, can’t imagine she really busted her ass in the third.

The AO draw is out, but I can't find the fucking pdf versions to start the thread.

Genie is lined up for Serena in R2, winner should get Simona in the 4th.

Andy says there’s a good chance this is his last tourney. Would rather retire at Wimbly, but isn’t sure he can even make it there.

Damn, that’s a bad hip injury.

Forgot he had two golds.

we were in london for his 2012 olympic gold and his 2013 wimbledon run.  i actually went to that wimbledon but didn't see any of his matches.  it was interesting to see how much the english didn't like murray.  they found him off-putting.  but when he won both times there was a sense of "at last a brit won".   he definitely didn't have the love of the people like henman.

Sad to see him go. Biggest high-profile retirement in tennis since Agassi, I'd think.

To achieve what he did, all within the era of the Big Three, really is impressive.

Murray's technically Scottish, yeah? Englishmen and Scots are natural enemies.

Wow had no idea Murray’s injury was that severe. That’s terrible. Loved his style of play.
