IMO, you're drinking Bud Light at an East Texas truck stop waiting your turn at the glory hole.

I’m not a coconut fan normally, but all of these guys’ coconut beers slam. They do a stout modeled after Almond Joy that’s killer.

It’s two former Toppling Goliath brewers, and the tap room is a block from the original TG taproom. These guys are just killing it. Some of the best beer in the Midwest right now.

Coconut Bbomb is still one of the best beers I have had the past couple of years.

Where exactly are these glory holes you speak of?  Asking for a friend...

Are you ever not on vacation mdl?

It’s a state of mind. Speaking of...Big Sur beers:

It’s a state of mind.

Or as we say out here, it's a Golden State of mind.

Seriously, you should probably just move here.

pFreim is great, and the park across the street is nice for kids. Double Mountain on the other side of the freeway has some great pizza and beer as well.

Spent the day looking at elephant seals, Hearst Castle, Bubblegum Alley in San Luis Obispo and playing on Pismo Beach with the family. Now, down to the beer highlights in between.

Checked out Central Coast Brewing in SLO. Pretty decent slate of beers.

Had Pliny on tap maybe half a block from the Pismo Beach pier, which is nice. As an aside, it also seems that enough Younger was made this year that this bar in Pismo actually got a keg, which was apparently the first time ever the area got any.

Back in Morro Bay where we are staying I quickly checked a couple of bottle shops and scored a couple of these.

Had dinner at Libertine Brewing which also has their own and guest beers. Cool, funky place that spins vinyls and which also happens to have one hell of a view from their bar.

It’s all fantastic. The location is great, the food is good, and they have about 45 of their own beers available on tap or in bottle. If you come, you need to spend more than a day.

It’s gotten pretty hazy up here.

Excuse my W Coast Breakside ignorance.

Is “What Rough Beast” a joke about NEIPA on the West Coast? Seems like a W B Yeats reference should be reserved for something darker, imo

Back up to Monterey by way of Carmel. Checked out the new Alvarado Street-affiliated brewery/bar called Yeast of Eden in Carmel. Reminded me very much of Jester King beers (sours, saisons, etc) just served not in a farm setting like JK but rather an upscale place in an upscale outdoor mall. Very tasty beers though somewhat unusual location for them.

Later on in the day we swung by the Fieldwork tap yard to hang out and kill time in between the always excellent Monterey Bay Aquarium and dinner. Love that tap yard setup.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia.

Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line.

Never pass up a nitro porter.

I am down in New Braunfels and went to refill my growler (Growlerwerks 128) and the gal at the bar said I need to have a label on it per some new TABC regulation that went into law within the past 6 months.  She said the required label is similar to the warning label on a hard alcohol bottle.  I did a google search and couldn’t find anything about this being required...  anyone point me to this regulation?

(She still filled my growler but it’s news to me...)

In addition to good beers (& good food at their brewpub), Alvarado Street has good can art.

Not a lawdog. Think it’s federal, SG Warning. Had 1 guy at Bunker Hill HEB point it out to me repeatedly, when they were open.

Got this or something similar years ago for a glass growler I always seemed to want filled when he was on shift. Other glass has it printed in the back. My SS growlers have it etched on the bottom.

Thanks! I soaked a label off a wine bottle and put it on my growler for my next refill...

Don’t haze me, bro.

Common Block in Medford, Oregon.

How is Medford? May have to go there for work pretty soon for a day.

Not bad. Three breweries and a good bar/beer store downtown all within walking distance of each other.

  • Author

Also a couple of growler places outside downtown.

Aside from that it’s mostly old people and meth.
