GOP can’t win much with just his base.

GOP can’t win much with just his base.

I mean....except for the White House. And the senate. Which also lets them control the courts. That seems pretty big.

Yep. Again, pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. Abuse your position and privilege, and it works fine...until it doesn’t.

Can you elaborate as to what you mean?

There's been a steady expansion of special forces since the beginning of the war on terror. Increasingly, they are the military: they do the bulk of the fighting, there officers feed the upper ranks of the pentagon, etc.  But several of the truly elite units have simply stopped following not only our rules of war, but also some of the basic rules of the military.  And by several, I mainly mean the SEALS. Heavy drug use, indiscriminate killing, lack of military order, etc.  The bearded devil/operator/flat heirarchy ethos that suited them so well in the early days of the war on terror has become a problematic culture that needs to be reigned in. You can't have a separate military inside of the the larger military, and that lack of respect for order or humanity ends up  bleeding over into the military at large.

Read the cases above.  They are appalling.  Stone cold torture and murder, codes of silence, lack of respect for authority, etc.

Thanks.  Two of my cousins (brothers) are Special Forces graduates of West Point.  One is still active duty, although as a Colonel he is "management" at this point.  Multiple Purple Hearts and other commendations testify to his efforts on the ground, though.  I know him and his brother very, very well and what you describe is not even remotely consistent with their personal ethos (and I say this as a progressive talking about conservative family members).

It's isolated cases, but it's happening consistently enough that to me, at least, there's a creeping ethos that needs to get worked out.

In all fairness, after 16 years of war, all military's break down and suffer moral and discipline problems.  This president has put off a reckoning that will likely be more severe than if these particular cases had been prosecuted and allowed to follow the proper course of action. At some point, the Pentagon is going to bring these units to heel.

pardoning war criminals / navy seals plays very well to the Trumpkins

Y’all been watching the docuseries on Stars, “Leavenworth”?

About Lieutenant Clint Lorrance and how he was convicted of murder and war crimes.

Four episodes have aired so far and he’s become a pet cause of Sean Hannity and Fox News.

The dude’s entire platoon testified against him and immediately reported his actions to superiors within minutes of returning to their post after the incident took place.

The most recent episode focused on his family sucking up to Trump.

So kind of like cops, just with bigger guns?

He looks like a really tall twelve year old.

Settle down, Mr. Heck.  Your performance is starting to look like a performance.

Wrong thread.  Does it even matter anymore?

Yes, am watching this series.  Think there is only one episode left, but I believe from what I know from the first episodes that he is guilty as hell.

The beauty of Trump's tweet is it's just such common knowledge that Somalia was a damned paradise before Yovanovitch showed up. That place has been a shithole for years. Everyone hates his ability to tweet but it really amped up a day of testimony to make him look more petty and guilty than he already is.

I watched the first two, have the rest on dvr. Need to catch up.

Sorry, hit submit. He is going off on the press. How they are dishonest and fake and how great it would be in this country if we had an honest press.

He is going with free speech for his tweets especially since “he can’t have a lawyer or ask questions. “

Heck if I know.

So Trump said earlier that republicans weren't allowed to ask questions, and that this is the biggest disgrace in the history of our country.

Like, this is #1. Slavery is #2.

Come on, slavery is way down the list of what Trump thinks is the biggest disgrace in the history of our country.

It's below the Bill of Rights.

The next time he does his "biggest disgrace in the history of our country!" shit, someone should ask him to name his current top five.

Disgrace rankings:

1.)  Republicans not being able to answer questions moments after the world watched them ask questions on television.

2.)  Rosie O'Donnell

3.)  Prisoners of War

4.)  General Mattis

5.)  Sanctions against countries led by murderous dictators where Trump wants to have real estate.

6.)  Slavery

7.)  Jeff Sessions

8.)  Holocaust

9. New Coke

10. The last season of Weeds

The Clinton's are definitely above the Holocaust on this list.

Another day of public hearings like the first two and we will for sure have another investigation into Hillary's email machine.

Again, this is a man who doesn't understand how government works and neither do his cult followers, so he's just going with how his pea brain thinks it should work and they follow suit.

It also speaks to who Yovanovitch is.  There is certainly an image that diplomats are just those folks who go to cocktail parties, and occasionally set up some meetings with dignitaries.  And that may not be completely wrong for many.  But a Somalian assignment is something different. There is a hard task there.  There is lethal jeopardy there, both for the diplomat and those affected by her actions.  She served her country. Nobody is donating a million dollars to score that mission.

It's also telling that Trump thought that the fact that she served her country by working and living in Somalia was somehow a character flaw on Yovanovich's part.

Only a loser would go to that "shithole" country.

We'd have the Bull Durham report already, if they're weren't a bunch of... Larry?  Lolligaggers!

I actually would like to hear Crash Davis’ opinion on the IG investigation. Probably a thousand times more insightful than anything on Fox News.

FYI, Trump is coming to Austin on Wednesday. Get ready for traffic nightmares.
