Maybe one of the mods should combine the two knife threads?

I am still on my budget blade bullshit (less than $150). Latest come ups: Kershaw Bel Air, Vosteed Porcupine, Vosteed Marten (with fat carbon scales), and Kershaw Seagull.

I’m still on my bullshit. Love me some budget (less than $150) folders. Most recent come ups: Kershaw Bel Air, Vosteed Porcupine, Vosteed Marten (with fat carbon scales), and a Kershaw Seagull.

Correct. Got ahead of myself. Probably the Bel air. But hard to choose.

I've been on a bit of a slip joint kick lately. Giving in to nostalgia a little bit, I guess. Picked up a Case Sodbuster Jr. in yellow synthetic to match the Sodbuster that I've had for years. The Jr. is just a lot easier to carry.

And I also bought one of these on impulse. The downside is that RoseCraft Blades knives, while designed in the U.S., are made in China, which obviously helps keep prices down but dampens my sense of patriotism. LOL But I've gotta say . . . I'm impressed by the workmanship, particularly for the price. The steel (D2) isn't anything to write home about, but it's not worthless crap, either.

Next up might be another Case -- a Jigged Amber Bone Mini Trapper.

In the space of about 15 years, the Chinese have gotten pretty good at the craft of slipjoints, which is a pretty crafty craft indeed.

Seems they got pretty good at tactical knives a bit earlier, either because they're a little bit less crafty or western QC, or a bit of both.

The only D2 knives I have are Queen slipjoints. As noted previously, I'm a long time slipjoint fan and am quite adept at getting 1095, 420HC/440A and similar steels (SAK) hair-popping sharp.

Funny thing, most of those Queens have pretty thick blades for slipjoints and that D2 is rather hell to sharpen. Also, I'm pretty sure the carbides that make it hard generally also prevent the kind of smooth, polished edge I'm used to. Supposedly in D2 they are relatively large and pull or fall out of fine edges, making them coarse.

I don't know for sure, but the Queen D2s are said to be a well-heat treated variant as every blade bears a stamp PHD2 for Peters Heat Treating.
