If I remember right the freshmen that got hype last year were Sterns, Foster, and Ingram once he got on campus. Cook too but it was always known he'd be behind David and Boyd. We heard good things about Angilau and Ossai as well but it took some time for Ossai to find the field, and the staff is steadfast about redshirting OL (a good thing). The differentiator is that Sterns and Foster were early enrollees and Ingram was just so much more talented than anyone else in the RB room (in the category of "has his head screwed on right"). July 23, 20196 yr Texas High School FB Coaches are whiny bitches....https://www.frogsowar.com/2019/7/11/20689664/gary-patterson-matt-rhule-jimbo-fisher-tom-herman "Trust Me, I’m a Football Coach" A Dave Cambell's FB survey of the most trustworthy coaches in Texas had some illuminating results. By Grant McGalliard Jul 11, 2019 Coaches were asked “Which of the 12 FBS coaches in Texas would you say you trust the most?” and “Which of the 12 FBS coaches in Texas would you say you trust the least?” Those are two questions designed to gin up some discussion — so let’s discuss them, because, hoo boy, some of these results are really funny. TCU’s own Gary Patterson topped the list of the most trustworthy coaches, with 25.2 percent saying they trusted GP the most. That narrowly edged out Baylor’s Matt Rhule, who came in at 21.5 percent. That sounds about right. Patterson has made a living on giving scholarships and playing time to under-recruited kids from one-stoplight towns across the state. And Rhule is by all accounts a really swell dude. Tom Herman checks in at 11.4 percent, which I find hilarious. He’s coached at Houston and the state’s flagship program, and he can’t beat out the guy at SMU in gaining high school coaches’ trust. Maybe he should buy a grill that says “Trust Me, I’m a Good Dude” on it? The real humor is that Jimbo Fisher is below Seth Littrell on this list. Only 6.5 percent of coaches say they trust Jimbo the most. I’m not a recruiting expert, but I don’t think that’s good! Maybe it’s because he talks too fast, or maybe it’s because he makes too much money, or maybe he’s a Skoal guy and most Texas coaches chew Copenhagen. Who knows! But Aggie fans should rest easy, because Jimbo did top one list in the DCTF survey. Yes, 32.8 percent of high school coaches say they trust Jimbo the least of any FBS coach in the Lone Star State. He’s a relative newcomer to Texas, so that may play some role, but I’m going to have to award Jimbo my Big Yikes of the Week Award for this one. Also, the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry is back! Because Tom Herman checks in as the No. 2 most untrustworthy coach in Texas in this survey, with 23.3 percent of coaches trusting him the least. Maybe they’re just waiting for him to actually win a Big 12 title?rank trust and enrollment... I bet the negative correlation is strong...

July 24, 20196 yr Did not know and am not suprised the thieves are getting this treatment from the Dallas HQ. Quote 28. For the fifth consecutive year, Oklahoma has no back-to-back conference road games. Six Big 12 schools will play back-to-backs this season, six did last season as well, and eight did in 2017. But not the Sooners, since 2014. Don’t forget the gift basket for the league office, Lincoln Riley. July 25, 20196 yr Popular Post 1 hour ago, Post Oak said: Anyone have this from Scipio? @Machinator https://insidetexas.com/the-todd-orlando-translator-the-2019-longhorn-defense/ Joe Cook covered Todd Orlando's comments at the recent Texas High School Football Coaches Association meeting and they were revealing about how he feels about his defense and how it will be deployed. They are also very useful for assuaging sporadic fits of board paranoia that our starting defense will be a virtual base 4-3 with BJ Foster sitting on the bench and McCulloch, Ossai and Adeoye manned up on slot receivers and running backs. Let's tackle some key comments and I'll help you interpret the smoke signals: Orlando gave a positive example rather than asking: "So y'all think we'll miss our Mike LB?" This is the underlying thesis of my 2019 season preview. We get way too attached to familiar starters and names and too often confuse tenure with talent. Longhorn media amplify that sense of loss by building up players that were replaceable. Did Texas lose 8 starters on defense? Sure. Outside of Charles Omenihu, how many will be missed? Did we downgrade, upgrade or push within our preferred schemes and what the defense actually wants to do out there with our new personnel? Orlando commented on the LBs: Quote Adeoye's "had a great summer." Jeff McCulloch a "veteran presence" Ossai "has played outside and can play inside" We have a lot of flexibility in this package, especially at the second level. Ossai will see snaps inside in certain defenses in certain situations and against certain offensive packages. We've always done this with the B-Backer and will continue to do so. Oddly, it was actually when Naashon Hughes was at his best. It should be noted that Ossai is pretty fluid and has a knack for getting good leverage on OL. As for Adeoye, "had a great summer" is a coaching platitude conveying hard work and effort. Adeoye has a role, but it's narrow - situationally and by opponent. McCulloch is as described and his on field IQ will be key in setting our front. Defensive scheme tip alert! How are we getting more team speed on the field? Hint: rhymes with wayfties. Like most defensive coaches, Orlando uses quickness and speed interchangeably. The last line is also telling: he doesn't know how it will come together until he sees guys play. Meaning, he thinks he knows what he wants to do (play lots of DBs), but needs live fire to test his assumptions. He wants to gauge players like Josh Thompson, Overshown, Adeoye against more conventional offenses, the back up DL, Coburn, Chris Brown. Orlando is going best 11 and within a scheme that is an aggregate determination created by the play of all units - not just one guy competing with another on the depth chart at a specific position. Think expansively. We can't play much dime (6 DBs) on normal downs if Roach-Coburn-Graham and Ossai-McCulloch don't kick ass against conventional runs. Similarly, we don't know where to slot BJ Foster (Joker, Nickel) if Thompson doesn't show substantial growth from last year. It's all interrelated. He's talking about the fact that Graham has a 700 pound squat, among other things. I'm high on Graham and Roach at the DE position and I believe they can be better than the Omenihu/Hager combo last year. Given that I love Omenihu, read between the lines. Don't underestimate how assets like Bimage, Carson, Jones, Ojomo factor in here as well. 20 hard plays from a quality back up is a big asset in this defense. Orlando at his most unguarded. He knows his ideal defense needs an interior disruptor a la Poona Ford because of the trickle down of benefits it creates. Space eaters have limited value. How many hard plays can Keondre go in a game? I'd reckon 40 until the weather changes and he gets friskier in 50-60 degree temps The reason Coburn is special isn't size. It's his first step. If anything, size has been a detriment to employing that quickness consistently. If we needed a club over the head to get the point, this is the final takeaway and it's tied inextricably to his earlier quote about team speed. He's telling you what's coming. Todd Orlando is a smart guy who can hold multiple ideas in his head at once. He knows where the special players and the best depth on this team reside. His job is to integrate them into his defense and find work for the best athletes on the team.
July 25, 20196 yr So most likely "best 11" as Orlando says... DL - Roach, Coburn, Graham LB - McCulloch, Ossai DB - Green, Foster, Jones, Sterns, Thompson, Cook With the potential for Overshown and Jamison to move in to that top 11 depending on how Thompson looks. The tackling ability of Jones and Foster helps you to be less worried about what a running team could do against 6 dbs used even more than last year.

Based on what we've seen Thompson is not top 11 worthy. Chris Brown deserves that recognition at this time. He played at a high level to end last season and was off to a monster start in the spring before being injured. Cook is out 1st half of LaTech so it'll likely be a CB combo of Jamison-Boyce-Green, I expect to see all 3 play in the 1st half.
