That was exactly what Covington said backstage when he was asked about it. I honestly had no idea about that story.

For the 43rd time, ESPN does not run the PPVs. And by the way, this card was fucking badass.

Wait, wtf. Matt Hughes got hit by a train?

He was either the biggest idiot but I think it was suicide attempt

Have yall not seen him at events? Its pretty fucking sad. At one point he could barely walk.

Nope, fights Maia in October.

Quote

UFC welterweight contender Ben Askren was potentially one win away from a title shot entering his bout with Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239 in July. And in five seconds, that dream was over.

Masvidal's flying knee earned him the fastest KO in the promotion's history and ended Askren's 20-fight unbeaten streak and chance to face champion Kamaru Usman for the belt.

"It's not as bad as it was in the Olympics when I realized I wouldn't have another shot. This, I could have another shot," Askren said. "Nevertheless, you're talking about a goal of nine years in the making, and I'm one fight away from getting there against a guy that I chose. I blew it. My life's goal was to be the best in the world. I was this close."

As a result, Askren will now take on Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Demian Maia in October in Singapore.

Some fans and media immediately criticized the fight as it pits non-strikers together. Maia is one of the greatest grapplers in UFC history, while Askren boasts similar accolades in wrestling.

Helwani asked about those who "say there's a chance this fight is very boring."

"I think there's obviously a portion of fans who like all parts of MMA, not just those who stand and bang," Askren said. "It's kind of a myth that that's all people want to watch. At the end of the day, I'm a non-stand-up guy, a boring wrestler. And I've also been the most anticipated fight on the biggest two cards of the year. So there's some type of myth in there."

Yeah, listening to the interview now. Saw a strange ESPN headline.

Ben is right about listening to the Colby vs Usman chatter fight build up.

Didn't know this but apparently Covington and Masvidal are like best buddies, unlikely as it seems. If either one beats Usman, they'll have to fight each other.

Real life Colby is chill.  He and Masvidal were roommates for long times.  And they have gone on record saying they don't have a problem fighting each other for the belt.  It's just business and significant money

I’m like 99% sure Colby’s thing is a gimmick. Like, he didn’t feel like he was getting the recognition he deserves, saw what Conor was doing, and decided to go full heel just for show. I’m sure he’s probably a trump supporter, but a lot of the shit he says just seems like an act. Because clearly that’s worked for him as of late. Masvidal seems like one of the realest dudes in the sport. If they’re close friends, I can’t see it being any other way.

That fight should go about the same as this Astros/Orioles game

I haven't had an issue

Lol Mike Perry is a Legend, flicks off the crowd as he holds onto underhooks against the cage.

Now the guillotine is squeezing all the blood outta Perry. He sucks but he's entertaining.

Sportsurge.net

Lol more reliable than paying

Lol I'd come out to this

Fight night on ESPN, or what’s on tonight?

Has anyone ever seen Carmoushe and Faber in the same room?

Lol throwing punches that are missing by 3'

First punch that lands for Shev a knockdown

Carmoushe is under Eddie Bravo?

Shev double underhooks body lock takedown. Carmoushe looks satisfied throwing heel strikes to the thigh and squeezing arms from the bottom.

3-0 Champ

Shit fight so far. Hope Shev opens up this can soon.

Ole rubber guard. Classic 10th planet.

Nice job of grabbing half guard from full side control. Other than that, fuck this fight.

Woooooooo counter spinning backfist drops mush. Damn Bullets timing is on point holy shit

Yeah the Champ has won every round, the challenger hasn't engaged enough to warrant any action. Anytime she finally gets in close enough she gets dropped by a perfectly timed strike.

Shev speaks like 8 languages

It isn’t letting me post the picture for some reason, but I’m seeing the nastiest fucking picture of Mike Perry’s broken nose. Jesus Christ. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one look that bad

Eddie Bravo is somewhat funny, but annoying. The Rubber Guard is a good stall tactic.

Just like most new school fancy jiu jitsu, rubber guard is negated by good old solid fundamentals.  I love how he disses the gi, but wears gi pants.  His schtick is tired.

I came out to Gorillaz - M1A1 just to get my ass kicked. I don't know what I'm talking about.

But as long as he's not preaching about Aliens on the Rogan Podcast, I find him so-so.

He’s a fucking loon. Some of his conspiracy theory shit even has rogan calling him ridiculous and reckless

didn’t realize there was animosity between these two. I’ve always liked both fighters, but the Diaz brothers might be my all time favorite fighters.

Looking forward to the roid fest
