Polar - Netflix, Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick, Jan 25 (Hitman, Graphic Novel)

Featured Replies

Like the cast   Never read the comic book   Maybe one of Netflix’s better originals as of late

I would watch Mads and Katheryn Winnick in pretty much anything, including a documentary about aggy football dominance in the SEC and B12.

maybe a comedy/drama, but not a documentary.  that would be impossible.

looks cool.  Is it a movie or tv show?

Mads Mikkelsen assassin. I didn’t even need to watch the trailer. Totally in.

Fantastic movie.

I know nothing of the source material, so I went in with no expectations.

I love me some Mads and he was great.

It’s fairly gory but in a comic booky way.

It’s also really funny in a dark way.

Hopefully there’s a sequel.

Really, really loved this movie. Something about it was a little corny, but otherwise it was fantastic. Mads makes a good hitman. Plus that Stacie chick. Wow.

I was looking forward to this but turned it off after 30 minutes.  Maybe I just don't get the source material, fine to each his/her own.

It seemed like a poor mash up of Kill Bill (great) and Smoken Aces (sucked), but it couldn't decide what the hell it wanted to be.  So it went from brooding tension to ridiculous cartoon character villains from one second to the next.

Maybe it got better as it went along but fuck it, with Netflix it's always hit or miss so I checked out.

I liked it. I mean, Mads killing people. It is pretty gory though.

I'd say it was trying for the John Wick edge, but ended up a cornier version of Smokin Aces, so yeah, good call on that one.

Never read the graphic novels, but I’m guessing the villains were lifted straight from them.

How did he know to duck when he was fucking the hottie and the sniper had him in his sights?

Fun watch on the heels of punisher.

Sindy and dem titties.

I know nothing of dark horse material, but was aware of the name. I wonder if they have other stuff to be adapted.

I thought he had her pegged when he saw her unzip her jacket to show off her boobs when he was watching her in his side mirror as she walked up to his car to ask for help.

She pulled the exact same move - blow job time and BLAM - in the opening scene with the assassin in Chile.

Since they all worked for Damocles, I just figured he had heard about how the “A Team” as Blut called them operated.

OpSec didn’t appear to be real important.

Mind numbing gratuitous sex and violence. Gave it a thumbs up.

This movie is fucking terrible. It’s a worse imitation of other shitty movies.

Okay, just got to the scene in the karaoke bar.  My opinion just did a total 180.  This movie is actually kind of great.

This movie was fucking terrible. It wants to be a cross between John Wick and Kill Bill, but ends up being about as good as Freddy Got Fingered

I thought it was okay.  Just okay.  Good for something late night.  It's a poor man's Smokin' Aces/John Wick.  It you think those movies are the tits you'll at least be entertained.

Watched it last night.  It had potential but ended up being just OK.  Decent enough movie, had some good fight scenes and showed some T&A.

You guys are tough on movies.

I actually thought the opening scene had a Kingsman vibe, specially the second Kingsman.

How does it compare to say, Shoot 'Em Up with Clive Owen?  Know nothing about this, but from above, that is the oeuvre I'm feeling.  If so, seems like fun.

If there was a surly version of a Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic, our summaries would read:

”This movie was one the shittiest movies ever made, but it was also one of the best movies ever to pass over my mortal eyeballs.  The acting was spectacular and Oscar-worry, while also making one think of some shitty community theater project.  The director must have been a clone of Hitchcock or Kubrick with the stunning visuals, choreography, and dialogue, but he or she also appears to have taken a bowling ball to the head during film-making.  Repeatedly.  I fucking hate this movie, but I would give up my firstborn to watch it again, if that’s what it takes.”

What are thoughtless titties?

Hold on just a minute, what are thoughtful titties?!!

How can you not love a movie that starts with Johnny Knoxville being brutally murdered?

the ass and titties werent from katheryn winnick so meh

That movie does not get the street cred it deserves.

halfway through the movie I thought "This movie is so bad even Katheryn Winnick licking a strippers ass can't save it"

Then our hero took that chick with the great rack to pound town and it got better.

It was terrible... but so close to being great.  The main villain made it unwatchable.  Replace him with someone like Christopher Waltz and suddenly the move is amazing.

19 on Metacritic but I’ll watch

I really liked the vibe for the 1st half of the movie. Had a decent pulp type feel to it. I thought it went downhill after he went to the mansion, minus the fight scenes. Also felt the reveal at the end was rushed. Final scene seemed like a set up for a sequel.

The whole movie can be summed up with one word:  gratuitous

acting?  ran the gamut from good to meh to cringy

plot?  haha.  only one real potential surprise, but not really

emotionally / intellectually engaging?  fuck no

entertaining?  yeah, I was entertained

Siskel? Ebert? Just frauds compared to atomheartbevo

Wish he had actually been confronted by each of those assasins individually and fought them, rather than take them all out with guns in one scene. Although it was pretty bad ass naked in the cold.
