February 7, 20196 yr uh, i'm cool with 14 as well, but thus far our vetting process is...nonexistent. if we're going to add two more people let's make sure that they're down to manage their teams and stay involved for the entire season. i've seen enough people give up when they're losing at fantasy freaking football to know that not everyone is cut out for a competitive fantasy baseball league with a marathon schedule. we're all familiar with how deftly and calmly i've handled it in the past whenever people have stopped tending to their rosters, but i can't promise that i'll always be able to maintain that trademark level headedness that i'm known for if we add a couple of jabronis who lose interest in managing their teams half way through June. Nah mean?

February 8, 20196 yr Yeah we're gonna need resumes for the applicants. I'm talking Seinfeld sponge-worthy resumes.
February 8, 20196 yr i don't know utphil at all, but i know he's been posting on these boards (specifically baseball) for as long as i remember. feels like he'd be a good addition to the league.

February 8, 20196 yr I agree that 14 is a good number, but 12 would be sufficient if we cannot find 14.
February 8, 20196 yr i say we aim to have the draft order knocked out by early next week. someone should make a post about our two open spots or invite whoever you know that would play.

February 9, 20196 yr so who was that random poster that registered to post on this thread? was that some inside joke that went over my head? i can make a thread. here or gambling?

February 10, 20196 yr At this point if we have 12 confirmed I submit we knock out the draft order. Do we have 12 confirmed?

February 10, 20196 yr Author At this point if we have 12 confirmed I submit we knock out the draft order. Do we have 12 confirmed? 12 confirmed.
February 10, 20196 yr I understand bridled enthusiasm but it is 2/10. We have a little wiggle room to decide this sometime in the next week or 3.
February 11, 20196 yr can i call clock? i'd like to put a 24-48 clock on the addition of two new members. the truth is i've never felt confident that we could get two new people from shaggy because as i said, it's a big commitment that probably can only be filled by die hard baseball fans, and just not that many die hards even want to commit to something that costs $100 and lasts six months. Anybody else agree with a 24-48 hour clock on adding members? I'd think we'd have a better shot at adding a couple of real life friends who love baseball but who don't post here than we would finding two more posters to add. February 11, 20196 yr here is my count (based only upon this thread): fawesome capn81 northloop planet houston nomaaa goo punch henrygandorf bigorange huge beer potential additions: utphil don't see any reason this has to be done in the next couple of days, but i do think we should have everything sorted out by march 1st-ish.

February 11, 20196 yr Sounds good. Twelve teams might just have to do for now. I will give everyone a heads-up that I will not be able to draft between March 20th and March 26th due to vacation.

Hitby Additions: 12. utphil
February 11, 20196 yr those 12 look good to me. if that's what we're doing, i don't see any reason derka can't knock out the draft order and we can start mocking.

February 11, 20196 yr Author Just now, BigOrange1 said: but sub utphil in for numbers and call it a league? I'm down with that. Anyone opposed to talking roster expansions since we are only at 12? I think adding a corner IF, middle IF, and 2 OF spots would be good.
February 11, 20196 yr definitely not in favor of adding 4 more spots. think i'd prefer to just keep it where it is.
February 11, 20196 yr didn't we shift down 1 outfielder a couple years ago? do we use 3? i could go back to 4. that's the only roster change i'd be into.
February 12, 20196 yr yeah i like that. especially with 12 teams. moving back to 4 OF would be a practical change.

February 12, 20196 yr Is now the time we start gritching about fucking 3.2 inning starts, qs and holds? It would be nice to have a category where proper research of less than stellar pitching yielded something but I understand in advance that nobody wants hold as a category. There are so few relievers to be competitive in that category without sacrificing something major. Ill hang up and take my answer off the air.

There are so few relievers to be competitive in that category without sacrificing something major. Ill hang up and take my answer off the air. nomaaa, huge, and i are in an nl only league that uses holds. it should be mentioned, it's a 10x10 so it uses everything not nailed down. holds are fine, but in my opinion - holds aren't that hard to find, or that fun to get. a single game can have 2-3 holds in it. there are a group of guys that get a ton of holds, and those guys are plenty valuable even without the category because of their multi-inning outings, high k's, and potential for wins. it just doesn't make things more fun in my opinion. in the age-old wins vs qs debate, i have cited that i enjoy wins because of the randomness and luck involved sometimes (in both rooting for, and against wins). just like fantasy football when a random 3rd down back vultures a td, i think there should be some unpredictability to fantasy baseball.
February 12, 20196 yr Also QS is an especially frustrating stat with how many pitchers get pulled after 5+ IP these days.
February 12, 20196 yr Author I can bring it to a vote again. QS vs W. I agree with HG. I enjoy watching through the end. I played in a league that had QS and i just turned it off after he got his QS marked.
February 12, 20196 yr After going back and forth on that debate I'll vote for wins. QS would be perfect if they made the inning requirement the same as wins.
