I had a colostomy bag fall off at the Louvre

(4/4, in G)

Hopped on the plane and I went to France

Never any problem with my rubber pants

Had a glass of wine and I ate some snails

Cobblestones clean, never left a trail

Bonjour Madame do you feel the groove

My colostomy bag fell off at the Louvre

CHORUS

My colostomy bag fell off at the Louvre

My colostomy bag fell off at the Louvre

Venus de Milo had to get up and move

My colostomy bag fell off at the Louvre

[French nee-naw sirens in background]

Welp fellers, I reckon I had a golden time being off the meds with no visible cancer growth, because today's scan showed the little bastard awake and mischievous. It's mainly one lump, and we're talking measurements in millimeters not grocery produce, but it means before too long I'll be back on the poison.

I forget what the name of this one is. I got doctors paid to remember that shit.

On the other hand, I am damned good looking with Swiss clockwork innards, low blood pressure, highly oxygenated, at least in my fingertip, they never check anywhere else.

Yeah, this is correct. From the downtown Westin you could ride the train though. I was just down there today. MDA is a pretty well oiled machine. That’s the only place where the appointments occur pretty close to on time.

Man, lucky you.  I have had crazy waits at times.  Happens a lot where I get called back close to on time and then sit in a room for close to an hour before the doctor comes in.

We always like to stay at the Rotary House.  It's really nice to just walk back and forth across the walkway.

With the right attitude it is walkable; hell I know a guy who ran across American almost five times, then he decided it was enough so he went back home to Greenbow, Alabama.

If it’s the one on Dryden, that’s in the med center, not downtown. Might want to double check as the one in the med center is walkable to MDA. The one downtown is not.

It's in the med center.

Pretty easy walk over to MDA from there. Just don’t get mowed down by a light rail train crossing Fannin.

It's been forever since I lived around there, and pretty much everything I loved is probably gone (RIP Ginger Man), but I'd go with some scotch eggs, beef stew, and a few pints of the black stuff at the Mucky Duck.

What are you looking for? Rice Village is close to you and there’s a ton of options there.

We usually do this when we stay overnight. Easy to get to from there, you can even walk if you feel inspired and it’s not too hot.

Anything not chipotle, which is what my friend I'll be with suggested.

There’s a Chipotle on the ground floor of your hotel. I would head over to Rice Village and just pick something that sounds good. If you like Persian, Kasra is pretty damn good.

Tons of options as Houston is a foodie city, but depends how mobil you are

Depends how mobile you are, but here is our list of things "local" to 1515 Holcombe :

Southwells Grill/Two Guys Piizza - Greenbriar & Holcombe - neither are great, but they are close
Candelari's - Italian (good pizza too) - Holcombe & Kirby
Goode Co Taqueria - burgers/chicken/lite mexican & outstanding chocolate cinnamon shake - Kirby & 59 (Greenway Plaza area - 15 minutes from MDA with traffic, driving)

Cold drinks - milk shakes and/or frozen coffee (Mrs Fairway went through a shake phase after sino-nasal radiation)
- Whataburger or Common Bond - Greenbriar & Holcombe
- Chick-fil-A  - Holcombe near Buffalo Speedway

MDA has multiple cafeteria/cafe's
- main cafeteria - 1st floor near elevator C - great omelet for breakfast, salads are okay, and the pizza isn't bad for hospital food
- May's cafeteria - accessible via 3rd floor skyway, near elevator C  & take the shuttle - some good lunch options, limited time (I think it closes about 2pm)
- Rotary House Hotel - accessible via 2nd floor skyway near elevator A - small cafe and a snack shop - I go there for Antone Po-boys, but there are other options

Our options are more towards Bellaire as that is when we stay.

Maybe el mason

El Mason is great.

We ate at Common Bond and Hu’s Cooking (legit Chinese) a lot. Close to the med center. As others have said, Rice Village has a ton of stuff. They just put in a Loro on Kirby if you are a little more mobile.

I only have the Jerry Lewis example, but there is an excellent chance that the nation of France considers you to be one of the greatest comics in the history of man - and will give you some kind of award very soon.

Ringo was correct - you know it don’t come easy.

Is there ever any discussion about using hot/cold ablation to nuke the little fucker? Like - do big brain science machine shit first and chemo fun later? MDA does some cool stuff.

Parents checked in at Rotary house yesterday for my dad’s first round of immunotherapy therapy today. Once every three weeks he will head down to get a dose of Keytruda(sp?). Docs are hoping it will decrease the size of the tumor on his tailbone to the point where they can radiate that bitch away.

That sounds more positive than Williams was.

Do you get to do the Chemo in Austin or do they want you to do it in Houston?

Hopefully it stays isolated to one location and they can pinpoint their attack.  Fight the good fight brother.

In Austin under Houston supervision. I go back to MDA after the cycles.

Dr Pin will be the surgeon.

I'll have to give handies behind Buc ees pay for it all.

That’s what my wife did (well not the handies to pay for it, allegedly), Texas Oncology on Lamar.

This facility of healthcare dominance is very impressive.

We have tried to explain what MD Anderson, and the Houston Medical Center, is to people back here in Michigan. But the scope is really beyond what most people can really imagine for one complex.

Roughly, MD Anderson has about 25,000 employees and the medical center over 100,000 employeees and has over 160,000 patient visits per day

Just can't understand why they would put all this in a perpetual flood zone and hurricane magnet area.

I'll guess money. Oil money.

The history of TMC goes back to M.D. Anderson himself, so while oil has contributed plenty over the years, the roots go back to cotton. Lots and lots of old money in Houston and the uber wealthy here tend to be a lot more philanthropic than say Austin.

About to get the nuclear stress test.

Ct scan tomorrow morning then back home finally.

My friend has been with me every step of the way and made this ordeal as pleasant as possible.

Had apple pie ala mode room service last night. Spent the evening on the Westin roof watching the med center work it's thing. Strangely relaxing watching all those care givers buzz around like a hive of bees protecting the nest.

Next time you're down at MDA go to Mala Sichuan and get the Spicy and Crispy Chicken which is my favorite meal on this planet.

When I was taking my grandfather to MD Anderson after graduating from BU, in my bum unemployment year, they were treating him for multiple cancers on the same day which was a thing of beauty but took some time. I got me an annual pass to the Houston Zoo and would chill there on nice days while he was getting his treatment and if the weather was bad then I'd just wait in the lobby and see how many elephantmen came through.  Always somebody worse off.

Chongqing chicken is next-level good shit.

I've had it at a coupla places in Austin -- Fat Dragon does a damned fine version.  China Family's is too salty, chicken pieces too small.  Need to try the House of Three Gorges version.

I can't look at a flat head shovel without thinking about the wet concrete floor in a hot dog factory.

Not sure if good or bad, but everyone at the sarcoma center looked relatively well.

Few folks obviously getting the chemo, but nothing like I saw on my walk through the bowels of MDA.

Could be bad because they are all new patients, or good because of the amazing treatment.

Dr Aruajo has called me personally after talking to Dr Lin. He doesn't think the arm will have to go. See that the chemo does.

I really like China Family on Airport's version, but I've learned to embrace the hunt through the chiles for any leftover chicken or peanuts.
