I just got a call that they did find I had a fungal infection in my esophagus.  How the fuck do you get a fungal infection in your esophagus?  Antibiotics should knock it out, but still.

I'm no doctor but I'd probably try an antifungal over an antibiotic.

I got some good news today in that my PET scan didn't show anything in my liver is going to be a problem/malignant, so I am a go on Monday for my first of four rounds to blast this lymph node spot to hell.

Well that's great news. I remember liver scans causing me a decent amount of consternation. The docs were surprisingly not always in line about identifying a hemangioma. Remind me what kind of shit-ass cancer you were blessed with?

Testicular Stage 2 seminoma (I think technically IIA now that I have some clarity on the liver, but will need to ask my doc when I see him on Monday). This liver thing has been my biggest worry thus far, but it seems like every piece of data points to it being ok.

Shit! I missed this earlier. I am so happy for you. Fuck yeah!

Stand up to cancer concert just wrapping up. Donate now!

Doc is going to cut the basal cell carcinoma off my forehead Wednesday.
It runs in the family.

I don’t recall if I posted this in here previously or not but

there’s a monoclonal in trials that is meant to deal with cachexia, or the wasting away that happens when the body is under attack.  Staying strong and having an appetite can have a positive effect on treatment, and the idea is this would be taken concurrent to treatment.  I don’t know where the trials are being held, but it’s just another thing to keep an eye on.

one cool thing with this is it has the chance to affect outcomes across many types of cancer.

Just came here to post this. It's on hulu, and the live performances will bring the allergies.

If you can donate blood please do it as often as possible. Donated blood is saving my life as I type this.

They wouldn’t let me donate for years after doing treatment, and my blood counts will always be lower than normal (white cells and platelets) but I have been told I could donate double red cells.

Do donate if you can!   I only had to have blood once during my journey when my platelets dropped to 50 after my liver resection.  I was glad someone else had donated!

I was pretty upset to learn that I couldn’t be a donor (blood or organ) anymore (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma here). I had always been listed as an organ donor, but had never given blood before and was looking forward to doing it.

Yes, this.  I’ve probably had a dozen bags of other people’s blood pumped into me.

What kind you need? I'm bored and in the mood to wander forsaken back streets in 19th century garb while feverishly clutching butcher's tools.

I sure didn’t want a port but man it came in handy.

Have a good day.  I would sleep during my infusions and dream of tiny little angels on surfboards in my bloodstream, grabbing molecules of chemo and shoving them into the tumors because fuck cancer.

The port comes in handy for everything and saves a lot of unnecessary pain.

Nurse asked me if I waned Ativan added to my drip. I didn't really know what that was but it turns out I really like it. The naps during infusion felt warm.

Im really missing my pubes in this heat. Sounds like I'm opening a slice of cheese when I peel my sack off my thigh. Also have to be careful wiping so I dont slip and smear shit up my back side.

I don't, but Mrs. Canecutter had me install this flexible shower head that lets you reach anywhere from any angle, and on the narrowest setting it's like having Aquaman ram a bottle brush up your ass.

Welp, off to take a shower.

Dude, that is a feature, not a bug

Good scans. Main tumor went from 1.9cm across to 1.1. Translating that into a 3D spherical shape, it's lost 4/5 of its mass over 6 months. Coach has me on a stout dose of Welireg but she says I'm bearing up well and as you can see, it works.

Worst side effect of it is low oxygen levels, and I did drop a few points for a while, but today I hit 100% and I am one arrogant ruddy little bastid with a punchable face.

Today was the longest brain MRI I've laid through yet, but all I've got is a speck in a different spot that showed up months ago. Still much smaller than the one I had zapped last year. Doc said we could watch it or zap it, my choice. I said let's just watch it for now, let it think it has a future, wait until we see the whites of its eyes.

Prolly just the little white flag that the other spot was holding before he got nuked.

I always wondered what the big deal was with a “Brazilian wax”.  Radiation showed me.

Sounds like you guys had some pretty gnarly personal grooming habits pre-chemo.

getting a clear view of the digestive process will certainly change some of your dietary choices and encourage you to chew your food more.

Finished round 1 today, 3 more to go!

So far i am feeling great…slightly fatigued but nothing an afternoon nap hasn’t fixed.

Wife goes in for her lumpectomy on Sept 3 and I have my previously scheduled colonoscopy on Sept 4.  Oh, and also waiting on a biopsy on a thing they cut off my shoulder.

I can see how visual proof that you had corn in your bowl of red could lead to diminished societal acceptance.

I once went to radiation in the morning and then stopped in the cafeteria at Methodist and grabbed a fruit punch Gatorade and a quesadilla and headed across the Skybridge to Scurlock Tower for chemo.

I got fussed at by Bobbi and Renee (chemo nurses) for bringing hot food to the infusion room.  Hot foods give off more aroma and can trigger the other patients to puke if they are teetering on the brink of nausea.

Halfway thru my infusion I took my IV pole to the restroom to take a whiz and empty my bag.  I was sure I had internal bleeding because my bag was full of red liquid!!!

Bobbi and Renee said “did you drink anything with red food coloring in it?”

No more red or purple for me during the year I had a bag.  It was pretty apparent to me at that point why the instructions for the days prior to a colonoscopy say to not have any red or purple liquids a few days prior.

As for corn, it should only be consumed as chips or tortillas.  Kernels are like eating lead pellets as far as I’m concerned.

Final round of chemo delayed another week due to low WBC. Took down two bags of blood which got the globins back up. Thanks to all the donors out there.

Good news is I'll be able to attend the surly game watching party.
