If I remember my geology correctly, the top layer of the Grand Canyon is at the bottom of Zion.  Then, the top layer of Zion is the bottom layer of Bryce.

/interesting fact of the day.

Damn. Some maybe just all then time at Zion then. The plan was for just a day trip to Bryce. From what I've read, should be enough to do at Zion to occupy 3 days anyways if it comes to that.

meaning?

It snowed 10 inches on us at Bryce in May a few years ago. Zion will be warmer and more predictable.  Prepare accordingly.

And with a 7 year old you can do some great little short hikes around St George where the weather will be even more predictable that time of year.

Actually in st George now to visit my daughter and headed to snow canyon for just such a hike.

But yeah....Bryce can be cold as fuck and completely snow covered that time of year.
