Sometimes, Bailey will bark at the icemaker.

She's beautiful, not smart.

Sprayed the wood pile and surrounding area with Snake Away this morning. Penny then proceeded to roll in it. I guess she should be snake proof, now.

Mama squirrel had two youngsters earlier today. Now she has one. Got the dogs away from it and back inside. Now mama squirrel is coming up within feet of me, chattering up a storm.

show mama squirrel that if she wants to FAFO, you release the hounds and shut her up

"Why are you bothering me hooman?  I was happily snoring like your ex-girfriend.  Also some farts."

The ex was also a redhead.

No.  I don’t want to go outside.  I’m perfectly happy right here.  Get that thing off my neck and please leave me alone.

Kevin was having some incontinence problems. Been a rough time for him as he has to go wait in his room while we eat (not acceptable for him to beg from the baby), and also me going to work more frequently after a few years of remote work. He was getting very upset and then just losing control of his bladder. Took him to the vet to check for health problems and long story short we thought there might be a terminal thing going on and it instead turned out to be discospondolotis or however you spell the thing that sounds like that. An actual infection in his spine causing pain and muscle issues. After a round of antibiotics, he’s much better. Turning 13 in a week. Jeeez, I keep thinking he’s coming up on the end and he surprises me by bouncing back.

I thought the sole life purpose of every toddler is to drop table scraps to a waiting dog.

Don’t know where that is but it smells like Headhunters

The smells from Headhunters would have made a dog go mad.

Ha.  That is a picture that apparently was too zoomed in, then cropped.  Funny.  Definitely not what I was going for, but I kind of like it.

My Kona as a young pup.  The Shar Pei “My shit don’t stink” attitude right outta the gate…

Wife let Maverick(7yr) and Bevo (8mos) out yesterday to play. Apparently Bevo introduced himself to a neighbor’s chicken.

Looks like my house during peak dogsitting times.

My wife and I are taking turns driving between Atlanta and Young Co., Texas, helping my mom take care of my dad.    When she came out, she brought our new GSD, Tillie.   We took the dog to the barn to let her run and she decided she was going to boss the donkeys around.  Pete and RePete.   My wife said, "I hope she doesn't hurt the donkeys."   I told her that wasn't going to be an issue..I just wanted to get away without a huge vet bill.

Day 1: , they chased her off 4 or 5 times, then she got cocky and they rolled her ass up in a ball and sent her back to the pickup.
Day 2:  She chased the little one away, then got cocky and got her ass kicked by Ol' Pete.
Day 3:  A little more cautious but got cocky again and RePete kicked the fuck out of her.
Day 4:

i have my mother's elderly miniature dachshund Maggie now, she's approaching 18 and I'm similarly watching her carefully. she's so damn cute and playful still! plus she's like a last living remnant of my mom who's been gone three years, so there's all that additional emotional baggage.

that said, our last girl Cass we put down in 2020 was elderly and it was def time. generally I think the two biggies for me are one, do they still enjoy eating? and two, are they incontinent?  I think those are pretty good barometers to help you know when it's time.

FWIW we took Cass in three different times thinking she was done, this was it... and three times we brought her home way better than when we took her in (tumor removed, spleen removed, vestibular disease). we used to joke about her thinking "damn would y'all stop rushing me??" 😄

ETA Maggie and Cass ❤

Dog attacks puppy at dog park.

Owner/Baby Huey: That’s so not like him. He’s only done that like 3 or 4 times and it’s completely random.

Luna has zero tolerance for shit head dogs.

She will correct them. This means we can't go to dog parks where shit ass dogs proliferate.

so...over the past month Maggie pretty rapidly developed glaucoma with significant and visible pressure/bulging, along with an ulcerated eye that was very likely going to need removal as it was likely to burst, a persistent respiratory cough to the point of momentarily losing consciousness, and this morning she had some sort of grand mal seizure, i honestly thought she was literally dying in my arms. it took her an hour to recover. she's also been up and kept me up literally all night for the past two nights, coughing and/or crying/whining. I've had about 5 hours sleep since Saturday night.

my sister and i had already decided at 18 yoa, surgery was a non-starter...so the eye was probably enough, but add on the other issues the past week...it was time.

i had her three years and three months, that's how long mom's been gone. we bonded when she was just a few months old and i visited my mom, she fit in the palm of my hand and slept on a pillow right next to my head. she was hard-headed but got along with everybody, people, dogs, cats, even babies. she loved being groomed but hadn't been to a professional groomer until I took her. she'd never been to the beach either and she loved it. she was feisty and playful and had the best personality. she never even got gray hair.

this was the fifth and last animal (4 dogs and a cat) we've had in this house... their ashes are all buried in our backyard, but we're going to take Maggie to mom's grave and spread her ashes there. she was my mom's dog, not mine...i just loved her and tried to take good care of her.
