Look at you in the PNW with all that green stuff. I’ve not seen that in my backyard in years.

You should really consider getting outside from time to time.

Vet thinks she got might have gotten septic from not being able to squat and fully empty her bowels and bladder due to her arthritis. She was the best dog.

But in happier news… this skinny girl showed up walking around our cul de sac last night. Really skinny but very sweet. Pretty beat up also. Lots of scraps and bumps and bruises. No idea how long she’d been on the street but didn’t have a chip. Super timid and scared of us, the cats, the other dogs but seems to be settling in better today. Think someone may have dumped her or something. Looks like maybe had pups relatively recently.
Need some name ideas…

Tootsie (chocolate lab) is about 55lbs. She isn’t that much taller than the new dog. Looks like she’s maybe only 20lbs or so.

Think Devo is the leading name candidate right now since she looks a bit like a whippet.

Update.

“Owner” responded to our post. They also posted on next door. According to the post the dog got lost last night. Seems like a really skinny and beat up dog to have just been out one night.

Am I wrong for being concerned about giving her back?

Possible to take her to the vet for a professional opinion re: if she's been starved/abused/left outside/etc.?

We took her to our usual vet but they said they couldn’t do anything except check for the chip unless if was an immediate emergency. Basically told us we had to post her online for 3 days before they can treat her.

Obviously we don’t want to steal someone dog.

Owners just got her. The family were walking her and another dog and the person walking this dog was hit by a car. Dog ran away.
Dog seemed really happy to see them and they seemed legit. Hopefully they take good care of her.

Well good on you for taking care of her and hopefully she gets a good life back with her owners.

Ugg... just got the "your dog needs TPLO surgery".  Any post surgery advice/recommendations from the Surly crowd that I should be aware of? I know I've seen a bunch having to get it done here.

She's a  ~6yr old 65lb Ridgeback mix.

This is why this will always be the best thread on Shag/Surl/Whatever comes next.

So Mrs. Mailroom is trying to talk me into another dog.  I'm not super stoked by the idea considering we've had penny for roughly a year and she's just now starting to chill out.  That being said, I'm warming up to the idea and was wondering if anyone had dealt with reputable Dachsund breeders around central Texas or southwest Colorado.

I put our old dog down a little over a year ago. Google photos just put together one of those random albums with him as the subject, which ended with the last photo I took of him, eating McDonald's in the trunk of my car, on the way to the vet for his final visit. What. The. Fuck.

Sebastian got pretty upset at my yelling at the game, so I turned it at halftime and took him for a walk.  When we got back, I saw that we were only down 23 to 8 and things were looking up so I watched until part way through the 4th quarter.  The continued stupidity just had me yelling again, and Sebastian upset, so I turned it off again and took him for another walk.  When we got back he just looked at me like I don’t know what all the yelling was about, but three walks is pretty cool.  I never turned the game back on and now we’re both sitting on the couch watching a movie on Netflix. I still don’t know how the game ended up, and I think we’re both happier.

Well, we picked a depressing as fuck movie to watch.

Sad to say but Ginger passed away the other day. We got her about 12 years ago from one of yall whose wife volunteered at Austin pets alive.

She was a great dog and will be missed

Fresh from the groomer and Smiling.....

Why was she at the groomer you say?  Because this muttonhead got fucking sprayed in the face by a skunk at 5am this morning.   Not only did she get sprayed, but she decided the smell needed to penetrate the walls of our new house and decided to run around the living room right after.

But! It gets better.  On the way to the groomer to wash the fucking smell out, she decided to yack in the back of Mrs. MailRoom's car because you know, she got sprayed in the mouth with skunk juice and car wasn't going to stink enough.

It gets even better though!  After getting her out of the car, she got startled by someone honking the horn in the parking lot of the groomer and promptly shit herself.

Cute dog.  Dumb af.

Cute dawg though!

My granddaughter was devastated when her 12 year old  “baby” Toby finally had to be put down a couple of months ago after more than a year of battling with a cancer.
Last week she & her husband adopted this rescue from Mexico - “Sophia”, who is 8 months old and bears a striking resemblance to the late Toby.

Sophia has been a big part of helping granddaughter’s recovery from surgery several days ago.

You mailroom folks must truly love that stinker.

Old and sick dogs aren't "put down".  They are "laid to rest", "euthanized", "helped across the rainbow bridge".

Problem dogs are "put down".  Rabid dogs are "put down".

So the puppies make a blanket fort under my desk while I work. Finally caught one in the act.

We are dog sitting. Rune is a Norwegian elk hound. We are ruining him. Bacon grease on his food, allowing him on the bed and furniture. He’s not going to want to leave.

Talk me down off of the ledge regarding the cone of shame. I've never had to put one of my dogs in one. Pup has seasonal allergies causing her to lick her back feet and they are getting raw. Claritin and fish oil was the first thing we tried and it seemed to work for a couple of weeks but then she started again. Now she's supposed to put the cone on when I can't watch her. I'm not comfortable putting a crazy 7 month old puppy in the crate with the cone or anything else on when I can't supervise her. Vet says it's fine. I'm convinced she's going to get it caught on something in the crate and choke herself out or some other shit.
