Try an inflatable collar

Thanks I just spent a bunch of money at pet supplies plus - inflatable collar and 2 paw booties. Tried to put a booty on and freakouts ensued. This is giving me almost as much anxiety at the moment as the election thread.

'Inside the mind of a dog'

Documentary on Netflix.  Can't recommend enough.  Absolutely great show.

PSA - the Kong stuffed toys on sale at Costco are a good deal and have been Crocodale resistant for a week now.

Talk me down off of the ledge regarding the cone of shame. I've never had to put one of my dogs in one. Pup has seasonal allergies causing her to lick her back feet and they are getting raw. Claritin and fish oil was the first thing we tried and it seemed to work for a couple of weeks but then she started again. Now she's supposed to put the cone on when I can't watch her. I'm not comfortable putting a crazy 7 month old puppy in the crate with the cone or anything else on when I can't supervise her. Vet says it's fine. I'm convinced she's going to get it caught on something in the crate and choke herself out or some other shit.

Is 7 months too young for Apoquel? We tried all the other stuff a hundred times over but it was Apoquel that finally rid him of his skin allergies. $100/month for a 16 lb dog but totally worth it .

my 62 lb lab was on apoquel for 7+ years, it started off as a pill per day- which is probably close to $100 per month today. but after 60 days we moved it to a pill & half every 2 days (cut half the pills in half, left the rest alone) for something like 3-4 months.  then went to a pill every 2 days. at the end of her life it was a pill every 3 days.

she was literally allergic to everything in my backyard, the grass type, the 4 different tree pollens I have in my yard, the next door neighbors bushes, the damn dandilions.  (splurged and bought the vet to test her for all her allergies)

vet told me we just needed to break her cycle of constantly licking the itchy areas, which never healed, then got raw, then got infected, then got a cone, and start it all again 3 weeks later.

apoquel stopped the itches in less than 3 days, and she never itched herself raw again... and by the last 2ish years i only had to give her 1 pill every 3 days or so. which meant it was less than $400/yr

Yeah my plan is to cut his back to one every other day once the grass dies for the winter.

Need positive thoughts for this goofball. He turned 1 in September. Had a seizure and I thought maybe he got in to something he wasn’t supposed to. Didn’t think much of it. I’ve had dogs have one and never again. Well I’m feeling like the asshole now. Today he had two more within 5 hours of each other. They were worse than the first. He was actually yelping/whining with these. I heard it from the other side of the house. He’s at the ER tonight resting and starting meds. Anyone have any other experiences with epilepsy and dogs?  All blood levels came back normal so they confident in the diagnosis and not just he got in to something he shouldn’t have.

Had one pug who had 1 or 2 a year. The 4th or 5th was particularly scary as it would not stop. Got her to the vet within 9 or 10 minutes, total, and they shot her up with valium. Worked a charm. Got a script for compounded suppositories which we then gave her immediately upon onset. Luckily she was seldom alone. She lived until 13.

Woke up at 4:15(thanks to the end of dst) and had two missed calls from vet. Thankfully it was calls to say Gus’ anxiety meds wore off and he wasn’t having it up there anymore and just yelling unless he was with someone. Called them back and picked him up. Thankfully he seems better but only time will tell. Daily meds now for the dude.

Wrong thread

Not sure if it belongs here or the "things wifes say/do", but apparently we're adopting a French Bulldog puppy from her cousin tonight.

Guess I'll be visiting this forum more often now.

We took them to Hermann Park last week and they loved it. Plenty of stuff to do and dogs are allowed almost everywhere with the exception of the zoo.
