First thought I had.  SA, you just got the dog.  Don't go dressing him up until he settles in.

I tell you what, you get a dog, and you have no trouble getting your steps in.  15,000 steps yesterday, which was our first full day with Ned. I know it won’t be like that on many non-holiday weekdays,  but he flat wore me out.

Fucking A. Gustopher woke me up this morning with another seizure. Third this month. Called doc and they upped his meds and said watch him.

I woke up to a giant turd and medium sized pee pond in the dining room.  Thanks, Gumbo.

Thanksgiving photo dump. Trix is getting big. Probably around 65-70 lbs @ 7 months. Not very tall just a solid sausage.

The pics I have taken recently are of Ollie sleeping, because otherwise they’d be blurry from the perpetual energy and movement.  Hits 6 mo this week.

Collie on the left is ours. Collie on the right is his BFF who we watched while the owner was out of town for Thanksgiving. They enjoyed watching the Horns whooping up on Reveille.

For whatever reason, Bailey has become an absolute PITA to photograph.  And when I do catch her it looks like this.

Any of y'all roll your own dog food?  My old gal is dealing with serious skin issues, including yeast, but the vet thought it might be food allergies at first.  That opened Pandora's box.  Once she tasted basic homemade stuff compared to even "good" dry food there was no going back.

I'm curious about ingredients, this is what I do twice a day:

4 oz  diced chicken breast

3 oz  white rice

8 oz  peas and carrots

2 oz  blueberries

1 oz  cheddar cheese

A tiny bit of salt on the chicken breast before I roast it, but other than that, just straight up.  She devours it every time without fail, that dry food must taste like ass.

Note: do not let my dogs meet your dog and hear how well she's eating.  I did this for my late-Golden, Maggie, when she was diagnosed with cancer and wasn't eating much.  Hamburger and eggs sure turned that around for a while.

That sounds like a lot of work.

Sorta.  I cook enough chicken and rice for 3-4 days at a time, but heating things up takes maybe 5 minutes twice a day.  She's so happy eating it, and honestly, it's not much more expensive than the kibble.

I'm curious if anyone spots any nutritional problems.  I added the cheese because otherwise she was getting zero fat, and she was always famished and barking at us.  It seems the cheese has helped in that regard.

We started making our own for my wife’s dog who died at 21. Ground turkey, peas/carrot medley, rice, and canned pumpkin. He loved that shit.

So, this sounds unpossible, but I've never dug into this thread.  Love it!

Meet Murphy.  Murphy's 8 years old now.  I'm obviously biased, but he's special.  Best dog I've ever had by a long shot.  Certifiably badass bird dog.  But also the most chill lab around.  He's an absolute sweetheart and loves his family (except the cat who steals his bed).  He's also my jobsite / shop buddy.  Even when he walks through a fresh concrete pour.  We leave him out during nice days, and he never wanders far.  Always keeps an eye on the chickens and has fended off more than his share of foxes and coyotes.  And, the minute I get my shotgun out, he's in full-on business mode.  He's an absolute retrieving machine in the field.  He's starting to get a little long in the tooth and all the time in the field is starting to take it's toll on the old hips.  So, we're thinking about getting him a running buddy next summer in the form of a yellow lab puppy to have a little youth around the house.  Maybe ol Murph can teach him or her a thing or two.

OK, that's pretty close.  I don't want to go too far on the rice and berries, she's getting cataracts which can be indicative of diabetes.

Basically, she's a mess, but she's our mess.

Yes, I cook for my dogs with similar food. Rotate between chicken and pork for meat, and rice and sweet potatoes for starch.

The problem with this is there are some nutrients that aren’t present in this diet they need. You can find some places like farmers dog that will sell the vitamins to make up for what they are missing but they cost more than the food. Vet recommended 1/3 dry and the rest people food so they get what they need. It’s worked out for us

Bailey usually gets shredded chicken, occasionally beef or  pork on her Blue Buffalo kibble.   On special occasions a turkey hot dog.

The BB food made a whole lot of difference with her, even from Wellness Core.  Moving around better, more alert, less nap time.

Maybe a boiled egg instead of cheese.  My dogs loved boiled eggs.  If you ever have carrots that are about to go bad, you can boil those us and add it to the mix.

This is pretty much what I do.  I put a baked chicken thigh, a few baby carrots, and a quarter apple in the food processor and use it as a topper for Sebastian's blue buffalo dry food.

@Spaulding Smails I bought this hammock thing for my Golden, Mollie, when she started getting some hip stiffness.  It seemed to help and she loved sleeping on it.  Fits in the dog crate, also.

Amazon.com : Kuranda Chewproof Bed - Almond PVC - 40" x 25" - Cordura Nylon - Gold : Pet Beds : Pet Supplies

Bought something very similar for our stiff dog, and then put a foam topper on it. He loves it.

Our dog (Westie) licks and chews every bed we buy him until it is disgusting and coming apart with padding everywhere.  I am open to other options.
